@AncientNight If it makes you happy go for it!! Yes, you are exposing yourself to more risk when you ride it than if you ride in a car. However, if you have adequate insurance, no dependents, and you're a safe driver, why the hell not? Not like you're going to leave several small children with one fewer parent if something goes wrong. When better time to ride? I wonder how many bricks my kids will pass if/when I get a motorcycle when I really do retire.

I haven't decided if it I have a cold or my spring allergies acting up. Take care of your self.
HippieChick58 replies on Mar 31, 2019:
@Elaine57 The fun thing about the allergies is they come and go. In theory it is weather patterns, wind direction, what is growing/blooming in the area, or exposure to animals that aren't my own. The reality is a choice of whether to tough it out or medicate. If the days are bad I medicate at bedtime, it helps me sleep. And then just wait for the winds to shift again.

It is hard when our friends keep repeating their patterns. Is her friendship worth the drama? Only you can answer that.
HippieChick58 replies on Mar 30, 2019:
@WaywardAtheist What do you get out of your friendship with her? Sounds like she is a taker more than a giver. This is a question only you can answer, but the hard questions are: Are you better off with her or without her? And what are you getting out of the friendship. To me it seems that your needs aren't being met., but I am sure I don't have the full story. As women we're conditioned to ignore our needs and focus on others. We have to learn to put ourselves higher than that.

@mordant The common wisdom for smart shopper is to shop the perimeter of the grocery store, that is where the real food is. I don't buy much in the way of processed food, I cook large batches and freeze leftovers. I think I broke the TV habit by being in the military and living overseas. We had one channel so limited American TV. When my kids were growing up I limited their TV time. They tell me they were culturally deprived, but they were also the smartest and best read kids in their classes. I turned off cable TV during the Iowa Primary, I don't miss it. I also realized I was not watching TV so much as I was using it as background noise while I was online. I have never seen Game of Thrones, and I don't expect that to change. I find the discussion of race and dating interesting. I'm about as white and they come and grew up in a small Midwestern town. My uncle married a Japanese woman just post Korean war. Aunt Mickie gave me an attitude check once when I said something racist. She pointed out that she wasn't white. She was my hero for so many things, it was eye opening for me. I have tried to not let race/skin color influence my decisions. As Maya Angelou told us, when you know better do better.

I renewed mine when youngest was in HS and making a school sponsored trip to Europe. The organization wanted at least one parent to have an active passport in case of the worst case scenario. So I renewed mine then, and now it is time to renew again.

@Rob1948 I spent 6 years in the Army, I was young, far away from home, and a female in a ocean of young males. Friday and Saturday night we'd regularly be at a bar, and I closed them more than once. I also have a few nights that I blacked out, I have no idea how I got back to my barracks. It was the late 70s. Yes, I was young and stupid. I got married and out of the Army in 82 so I'm guessing the last time I closed a bar was 1981. 30ish plus years later and post divorce I have limited tolerance for alcohol, one drink and I'm asleep. I haven't been in a bar in years.

When I was 14 my mom died. My 8 year old sister started to play with her toys in mom and dad's bedroom. After the funeral while the house was full of relatives, my sister was in the bedroom and noticed a handgun (antique unloaded silver pistol) on the dresser and she was touching it when my dad caught her. He scolded her terribly. My aunt who was Japanese by birth and about 4'11", 89 pounds lit into my dad. She scolded him up one side and down the other about leaving a weapon where a child could access it. Aunt Mickie became my hero that day. And after Mickie got done, dad's mother and brother also chimed in. I don't know where that handgun ended up, but it was never seen again. I don't know if dad just wasn't thinking, or if that had been a habit. I know there were shotguns in the house, and very likely accessible to youngsters. But then again this was the very early 70s. I spent 6 years in the Army, I fired expert with an M16. I have never felt the need to have any sort of gun in my house once I had kids.

@Pralina1 @Knitfreak I haven't shopped at a WM in years. I used to shop there when I was working nights. Not many places are open for groceries at 3 in the morning. Some night shoppers are really scary, and the staff is bored so they talk to you, and talk, and talk, and talk.... After I learned how they screw over their employees I stopped shopping there. None of my family shops there, however, WM bought the company one of my daughters works for, so now she works for WM. She likes her job but hates that she works for WM.

Mine are quality time together, physical touch, words of affirmation, gifts/token in that order. My ex thought an act of service on his terms should be sufficient. HippieChick58 replies on Mar 21, 2019:
@Robecology I see I was unclear. The poem was the words to a hymn. The music already existed, he wrote new words for the music. It was a Mother's day gift. He always asked me what I wanted for holidays, or had me mark pages in catalogs or send URLs. So I had told him I what I wanted, I wanted a raised bed created in the back yard. Keep in mind, it is spring, this was for Mother's day. The poem and hymn had NOTHING to do with mothers, or children, or love. It was an Easter hymn. And for years we had argued about the website, it absorbed his every. waking. hour. He got up early to work on it before anyone else was up, and he went to bed early to be able to wake up early. He essentially shut me and the kids out, and he did it for years, still does it. He has a huge collection of old hymnals that he has a program to put the words and music together. Hate stage, no I passed that while we were married. The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference. There is no good memory associated with that hymn or his website. We've been divorced almost 10 years. We're amicable, the kids like to do "family" celebrations, so I see him about 8 times a year, maybe more because there are grandchildren now. And yes, he did hate getting his hands dirty. He did not do any maintenance on the car, and only reluctantly did anything around the house. OMG, painting walls, he fussed if the paint dripped on him. We used cloth diapers for a while with one of the babies, he fussed so much I had to cancel the diaper service. He has never fed or changed a grandchild and he is notoriously impatient with them. The adult children have his number, they have lived with him individually post divorce and they tell me stuff. I never bad mouth their dad to them, but they know. He is "unique".
