I knew some folks moving with the military in Germany... they were packed out on Thursday, their flight was not til Monday. On Saturday they strolled through the local thrift market and saw their stuff for sale.... And for another family, their stuff was aboard a ship in the Far East that was commandeered during a military coup. It was months before they got their stuff and they didn't get it all. Military families know lots of moving horror stories.

I keep baggies in my car with $5, a pair of tube sox, personal wipes in individual wraps, and a space blanket. The baggies are in a pouch behind the driver's seat. When I see someone with a sign on the side of the road I will hand them a baggie. Did you know that sox are the one thing that aren't usually donated to shelters. They have all other clothing, but not usually sox.

When I lived in Western Washington state we'd take our kids hiking in the mountains. They each had a fanny pack with a whistle, a mirror, a trash bag with a face area cut out, and a bottle of water. If they got lost they were to attach themselves to a tree. They could use the trashbag as a raincoat if needed. They were to blow on the whistle from time to time, and try to find the sun and reflect it off the mirror. We never got to test it out, we never lost a kid.

You are ASSUMING he does not have time to date with all the travel he does. You have a very favorable view of this profile, I have a rather more reserved view. We don't know that either of us is wrong. You need to back off a bit, take a few breaths. I will too so don't get your shorts in a knot. We have not named him as a scammer, just that the potential exists. There are elements of his profile that create concern. The concern is a big one, really big. I'm not saying we burn him at the stake, no one here is. But he bears watching to protect the vulnerable users of this site. It takes time, and you just have to deal with uncertainty and suspense.

And we don't have the population to support that kind of business. For me, when someone says they're a gem buyer and live in Omaha, all I can say is dream on.

Whereas you're not wrong, I occasionally coach younger women about finding and owning their voice. At my last job, I was working with my senior, she typed up an email and it was fine, but I pointed out she was using "soft" language, sort of an "If you don't mind" message. I pointed out she was a spokesman for the company, the information was expected from that person and needed for us to do our jobs for the benefit of her employee, it was not negotiable that the information be sent. I suggested she keep it friendly but more to the point and less hesitant. I am in my 60s, this young woman in her 30s. Women are conditioned to be soft, told to be nice. You have to be aware of what you're doing before you can change it. Many women are unaware of how they come across.

I was born in Nebraska, and I expect to die in Nebraska. I did live in other places for nearly 30 years, and often ask why I am back here. At this time of year if I wanted sunny and 75, I'd have stayed in Louisiana.

My mom died in 1972, she was 45, born in 1927. She was far too young to pass on, but Ovarian Cancer sucks. My dad died at age 88 or 89, he was born in 24. I missed my mom all the time, and missed her most of all when my kids were little, there were so many things I needed to ask her.

@Captnron59 I love, love, love water. I drink about a gallon a day. Some days I have black tea, most days I will have some herbal teas. I rarely leave my house without a Hydroflask filled with ice water, even in the depth of winter I like my water ice cold.

@josh_karpf Way back when, early 90s Chick fil A was pretty good. We lived in Hampton, VA and used to eat it pretty frequently. Then we moved, and moved, and moved. Chick Fil A is now in Omaha. And because I was close by, and I was hungry, and I hadn't tried in in over 20 years I decided to check it out. It has not aged well. The food not as good as I remembered. With their political stance I have put them on my list of places to avoid, and I have no regrets in doing so.

@FrayedBear There was an error in the blocking programming, and even though I had you blocked I was still seeing your posts. And as a New Year's experiment some of us decided to unblock every personal block we had. If you are blocked in a group you are still blocked there. I don't stalk and or bait you, even if I had that much time, there are so many more pleasant things to do. As far as I can tell, this is the first time I've seen you in days. Why does it matter that someone was or was not a Jewess? Why would that matter especially on this site? Many of us have Jewish ancestry, it doesn't change who we are. Due to the diasporas of Jewish history there are many Americans, Europeans,and Australians that have Jewish blood.

@FrayedBear I can be a grammar nazi, so if you want an apology you'll be waiting for a while, a very long while. However, there are times it is appropriate, and times that it is just nit picky. I choose not to be nit picky, and go for the meaning of the conversation. Not everyone on this site has English as their primary language, and not everyone is careful with their use of grammar. I'd rather advance the conversation than throw up roadblocks due to minor errors.

Now gratitude is something I do try to practice as often as possible. I always tell my kids how proud I am of the adults they have become. I try to build up others, and encourage them. When we are encouraged we are stronger, and right now we need to be strong. I am grateful to this site and the amazing people I've met on here. I am grateful to you for your presence here, and allowing me the opportunity to hopefully help. I'm sure the jury is out on that one.

The common wisdom is that unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting your enemy to die. You forgive to release the pain that they have caused you. It doesn't mean you forget, it just means you come to acceptance of it. Does it work? Someday ask me about my ex, or don't.
