I am not particularly outgoing, I am quite fine with the social distancing prescribed by COVID and not going to an office or out in crowds. I am not particularly well organized.... but I do get stuff done. I have my purpose, they call me Grammy. I am not overly optimistic, but fairly even keeled. My mom died at age 45 from ovarian cancer and I was very happy to pass that mark. Ideally I'd like to see my grands grow up and start their adult lives. In reality, I don't want to live beyond my savings.

HippieChick58 comments on Nov 3, 2021:
I used to change my radio station every year because they would start playing xmas music way too early in the year for me, and then ONLY xmas music for way too long. I keep a radio on all day, I use my Google home speaker, and if it stops playing I know my Internet may have dropped, which affects doing my job. So last year I didn't change back to the other station, though I doubt they noticed. I don't acknowledge Xmas until December 1 and I do very minimal "decorating" for the holiday. I also do most of my shopping online, and only go to the grocery stores when I have to. I will admit I just finished my xmas gift shopping, or at least I think I did. I'm shopping early because I've heard too much about the backup of cargo ships off our coasts. I want the peace of mind of knowing it is done.

HippieChick58 comments on Nov 1, 2021:
I did a modified Heimlich Maneuver on my oldest daughter when she was small. She was in a high chair and I could not pull her out quickly, so I used the back of the chair and stood behind her. She was choking on an ice cube, ice cube went flying across the table. Then it was quiet as she took a deep breath and that was when I got her out of the chair. When she had her breath she let out a cry that everyone in the building heard! She's now in her mid/late 30s and a mom, she's fine.

I have a cat that is a finicky eater, and she will just not eat when she doesn't like the food. My vet tells me that is a bad thing to not give her food she's willing to eat. Thankfully I've found a reasonably priced food she will accept. The other cat eats anything I put down for her, she even checks out the mixed nuts I keep on my desk while I'm working. Those are not so much for eating, but for scattering all over the desk and the floor.

Pandemic puppies I wish people would do enough homework before they acquire puppies.
HippieChick58 comments on Oct 27, 2021:
I considered getting a dog because I was unemployed for a bit, then WFH. My yard is not fenced, and I know my physical limits. A dog would have forced me to get out for walks more often, which is good. BUT, having raised a puppy when I was a full time mom, I knew the demands of puppyhood and adolescence, and I could see that not turning out well. And needing the house to be quite for extended hours while I'm taking calls for work, not a good combination. It is bad enough that occasionally my cat will start "talking" to me while I'm on a call, I can't imagine a barking dog! Too many people do what people do best, not think things through. Poor puppies...

Have any of you experienced feeling lonely and isolated after your deconversion from Christianity to...
HippieChick58 comments on Oct 26, 2021:
My deconversion came after I left the marriage. My kids were already out of the nest. I had a friend that became a roommate for a short time, and he suggested some documentaries that pretty much confirmed my growing misgivings about xianity. Then I found Omaha Humanists, and I am in good company. I have changed jobs several times since then, my lack of faith was never an issue, only a very few knew or know I am an atheist. My current manager is apparently an xian, I have yet to meet her in person, and our limited time with onscreen meeting has not allowed much time for chitchat. As we aren't expected back into the office until after Jan 1, 2022, if then, I'm not going to worry about it. 2 of my kids are atheist, one tries to stay in her dad's good graces... One of the kids is married to a Catholic who did take the kidlets to church. Both of their babies were baptized, and I was there :) Grandpa gives them plenty of religious stories, but I think the other auntie and uncles and me will give a balanced view.

He is an avid watcher of Fox News, a stalwart Republican, and runs a Xian website. We don't talk much really, and I would never spend time with him without the kids. the kids are good to him, and try to overlook his really outrageous brain farts. He did get vaccinated, so he's not totally gone, but very close to that edge. One of the last times I saw my ex he started filling me in on the tax implication of selling the house we used to live in... He did stop when I asked him if he really thought I cared about that, but really! He has limited social skills.

Quickhatch noun a wolverine.
HippieChick58 comments on Oct 17, 2021:
I had to look further: WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF QUICKHATCH? Quickhatch “wolverine” is a borrowing of East Cree kwi˙hkwaha˙če˙w, with the spelling and pronunciation altered significantly probably because of association with the similar-sounding yet unrelated words quick and hatch. East Cree belongs to the Algonquian family of languages, and the cognate of kwi˙hkwaha˙če˙w in East Cree’s close relative Montagnais was kwa·hkwa·če·w, which was borrowed into French and became carcajou, another name for the wolverine. Wolverines are also known as gluttons, and while glutton is of Latin origin, it is used as a name for wolverines as a translation of German Vielfrass “eating much.” Quickhatch was first recorded in English in the late 1600s.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
