FrayedBear comments on Feb 26, 2019:
Seriously you are not asking the correct question. It should be "if America is not under attack why does it need a military unless it is because like pirates the American people want their military to go and rob and steal from others so that they can drive around at next to no cost in fuel-guzzling ...
HippieChick58 replies on Feb 26, 2019:
@FrayedBear Supposedly the last time the US was attacked was 9/11. Before that Pearl Harbor. No the US does not need a standing army as big as it is. And we don't need a heavily armed and fortified police force. Why would the US be attacked. Retaliation for the crap the government has done in the last 200+ years. Venezuela, Syria, et al.

Ok totally fucking bull shit. Racism comes in all colors. Racism is not tieded to a political party. It’s economic based, “I don’t want this group taking my shit.” If we’re making general statements then those that make a living off of racism are racist or at a minimum promote racism....
HippieChick58 replies on Feb 25, 2019:
@Jk1960 I don't know if it is education, because I also saw it in Japan and Korea, and I know it happens and happened in Germany as well when I was there. Germany in the 80s had "gastarbeiters" guest workers from Turkey. The discrimination was brutal, much like the Jim Crow era in the US. I don't "need" to know why it exists, I know it does exist and it is wrong. It is also hard to change.

I like to go to definitions when there are disagreements just so everyone is on the same page. RACISM: prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. "a program to combat racism" synonyms: racial discrimination, racialism, racial prejudice/bigotry, xenophobia, chauvinism, bigotry, bias, intolerance; the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. "theories of racism" I agree that racism is not tied to a political party, however it seems to be thoroughly entrenched in the Republican party, notable exceptions being Ben Carson among others. And yes, Racism is not limited to white folks. Japan and Korea have some issues with racism, they don't like mixed race babies especially if they are mixed black babies. At least that is they way it was when I was in the military and stationed in Japan. I do agree that those who make a living off of racism or promote racism are racist. How can they not be?

HippieChick58 replies on Feb 24, 2019:
@DiegoDonJuan My location is mentioned, all you need to do is hover, I am in the middle of the US, just north of you. Most medical research has been done on men. Yes, women are a major consumer of healthcare, especially younger women, that comes from having babies. Yes, studies now are looking for women, because studies for the last 50+ years were done on men. I work in the health care field, I am a mother and grandmother, I have children your age. The fact that studies have been done mostly on men has been established for most of my lifetime. Women are chronically undertreated by health care. If a man complains of pain he his medicated to the gills. If a woman complains she is seen as a whiner and left to suffer. It is well established and well documented. Things are now changing, but it is coming slowly.

@demifeministgal I live with two kitties, they're both under 3 years old. They are wonderful, they make me laugh, they make me get out of bed. The younger kitty is a "fetch" kitty. I can toss one of her toys and she will run after it and bring it back to me to throw again, it entertains us for hours. I am definitely a loving cat mama. However, SamSam is at that wonderful age where everything is new!!! And as her mama is my daughter, if you know your biology, the egg that became SamSam was formed in her mama when she was formed in me. Therefore SamSam was actually part of me. I have two grandchildren, SamSam's cousin is Austin. SamSam is two, Austin is 10 months. I'm crazy about him too, but he's not quite as interactive as SamSam yet. But that they were both part of me is just so encompassing, I am overwhelmed with the love I have for these babies. I loved all my girls, being mom was my thing. But to be Grammy is so much more than being mom was. Yeah, I love my kitties, but I definitely don't love them as much as SamSam or Austin.

It is very sarcastic, but it will make you laugh. And for workplace issues please read the blog AskAManager.org. Alison Greene has been in HR forever, she started this blog 10ish years ago. She answers workplace related questions and has marvelous advice for office culture, office politics, lunch thieves, resumes, cover letters, interviewing, job searching, and job surviving. I read it daily, and miss it on Sunday when she doesn't post new things. Readers also comment on the postings, and sometimes have really great insights or ideas. @darthfaja I don't think it is "uptight" per se. There are just some experiences that come with age, and frames of reference as well that enrich relationships. Also, I'm looking at retiring in less than 10 years and want to enjoy my retirement. If I'm with someone 15+ years younger and still working that could become an issue. I'm not saying it wouldn't or couldn't work, and I'm not saying I wouldn't be open minded, but my experience has been I haven't found a younger man that I felt I clicked with. My kids don't know about all the men I have dated.... and they won't meet whomever I may date until I'm sure it is going to be something I need to tell them.

@ProudMerrie My middle daughter "advised" me that I should not date anyone that was closer in age to my oldest daughter than to me. That is younger than I would have gone. So, I'm 61, oldest is 34. So I should date men 48 and over per #2. My comfort zone is really about 55 and over.

I hope you're sitting down when you read this. Per Wikipedia and a few other sites: Mucophagy is a common behavior in children and some adults. However, this action is frowned upon and stigmatized in most cultures and societies which try to prevent development of the habit and attempt to break it if already established. However, there seems to be great health benefits to eating your own mucus. Scientists at a number of universities including Harvard and the University of Saskatchewan say parents should not discourage their children from picking their noses because they contain 'a rich reservoir of good bacteria.' HippieChick58 replies on Feb 19, 2019:
@confidentrealm When I was making bread I had a few recipes that called for VWG. Vital Wheat Gluten is the natural protein found in wheat. A small amount added to yeast bread recipes improves the texture and elasticity of the dough. Many people are not familiar with it, it was just a fluke that I had decided to hunt it down and use it. Then I got rid of the bread machine and forgot about the VWG until I cleaned out the pantry a few months ago. Being the frugal type I wondered what the heck I could do with it, and a google search led me to Seitan. It was a win/win situation.

It is a Chimera. According to Geekologie.com, a chimera cat is one individual organism, but genetically its own fraternal twin. The chimera is formed from the merging of two nonidentical twins, therefore they can be male, female, or hermaphroditic. Basically what that means is it was two embryos that merged together, making the cat look like it's two different patterns. Sometimes the difference is not as obvious as the face fur, it could be4 a hitchhiker's thumb and one straight thumb, eyes of slightly different colors, or completely undetectable.

So that dysfunction did not get passed down to my kids. One of my sisters and I have worked hard to overcome the legacy and we've done good. The rest of them we don't deal with much.
