@Closeted @Monad There will always be shifts because we're human. Things change over time. The Repubs used to be far more liberal way way back when. Things will be changing in the future, maybe back to what Democrats should be, though I doubt you can get two of any party to agree 100%

@MissKathleen Thank you, I do try. I see him on major holidays and kid's birthdays. Now that we've added son in laws and grandbabies, I see him far more often than I'd like, but the kids like the happy family thing.

@MissKathleen No problem Miss K. It's history, he's a "different" type of guy. The good thing is all the kids have lived with him as adults, and they all realize how "special" he is. They tell me we should have divorced years before, and they may be right with 20/20 hindsight, y'know. We produced some amazing kids and for that I will always be somewhat grateful to him. We are amicable when we are together, but sometimes I bite my tongue, hard. I would walk through fire for my kids, and being civil to their dad is far easier, most of the time, than the fire walk.

@MissKathleen LOL!! Intent. He has had a Xian website called The Cyber Hymnal for more than 15 years. It took all of his time and attention, he spent far more time with it than me or the kids, and I had repeatedly asked him to spend less time on it. When I asked him to shut it off to save our marriage he agreed, and then begged NOT to. We even saw a counselor who suggested more time together. The gift was given for Mother's day which of course is right after Easter. He wrote the poem as words to a hymn of which the music already existed. It was not about mothers or love or children, it was about Easter and Jesus, and resurrection. He dedicated the hymn to me on his website. When the divorce filing was done one of the stipulations was he remove my name and all references to me from his website. So, from my point of view his intent was to produce a gift with as little effort and forethought as possible. I often referred to the website as "the other woman" and told him often I did not care to hear about it. Tell me what you think his "INTENT" was.

When I'm sewing I can focus intently and it reduces the hold anxiety has. And yeah, the therapy results are pretty amazing. After the rainbow quilt I thought I'd take a break. Nah, I'm planning the next two quilts already.

The quilts for the daughters are not bed sized quilts. They are snuggle on the sofa while watching TV size quilts. At least one of them has a very cold basement which is where the TV is. The granddaughter's quilt is twin size, which in the US means it is a one person bed. The mattress is about 38" X 70". I have a quilt on my lap right now that is of similar size to the daughter's quilts.

You have some work to do, I can't say I know what it is but if you are stuck it may be time to find help. Would your late wife have wanted you to spend the rest of your life grieving her? I think she would have wanted you to be able to move on and find happiness again. It doesn't mean you love her less, it means you are still alive and that is what living is. Forgive yourself for what ever it is that is holding you back. It is hard, it is more than hard, but it can be done. For those of us in the northern hemisphere there is the lack of sunlight/daylight plus the cold and more isolation. There there is all the advertisements everywhere showing people having a jolly good time, and the hustle and bustle, and everyone wishing you good cheer. So if you're feeling challenged the rest of the year, this time of year it is more of a challenge. Plus you know that the post holiday let down is coming.... and the bills, and more bad weather, and it just seems all you can do is hang on til Spring gets here.

My youngest daughter always liked to see "Mt. Reindeer". We had a noticable earthquake while we lived there, that was exciting! I say that as a flatlander who doesn't have to deal with tremors. I recall that Mt Rainier is way overdue for a good blow.

@Pralina1 Aunt Mickie spent her last few years being cared for by her son and DIL in her home in Gurnee, IL. She would watch Japanese TV on Satellite, and her kids said her English skills started to deteriorate. Her DIL did not speak any Japanese, though her son did speak some. She passed on quietly a few years ago.
I find this distressing!

Good for you!! I joined a Secular book club and have been getting into some new territory for me. But I love to read! I am giving books to the grandbabies for Christmas, and the granddaughter is now subscribed to the preschool version of Highlights for Children. I'm so proud of my kids, they make it a priority to read to their children, just like I did with them. Books take you places!! Currently for non book club I'm reading Michelle Obama's book, its very good.

@Haemish1 My kids are 27, 30, and 34, so not youngsters anymore. I don't ask, and I don't talk bad about their dad. They have all lived with him as adults, and they KNOW. I hear things from time to time, they complain to me from time to time, and I try to be as helpful as I can. Ex and I are civil, even amicable. We created some awesome children who grew into amazing adults.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
