Why I Am a Democrat
Monad comments on Dec 29, 2018:
The Democratic Party used to be cool, but unfortunately their platform does not represent the true left anymore.
HippieChick58 replies on Dec 29, 2018:
@Closeted @Monad There will always be shifts because we're human. Things change over time. The Repubs used to be far more liberal way way back when. Things will be changing in the future, maybe back to what Democrats should be, though I doubt you can get two of any party to agree 100%

@MissKathleen No problem Miss K. It's history, he's a "different" type of guy. The good thing is all the kids have lived with him as adults, and they all realize how "special" he is. They tell me we should have divorced years before, and they may be right with 20/20 hindsight, y'know. We produced some amazing kids and for that I will always be somewhat grateful to him. We are amicable when we are together, but sometimes I bite my tongue, hard. I would walk through fire for my kids, and being civil to their dad is far easier, most of the time, than the fire walk.

@MissKathleen LOL!! Intent. He has had a Xian website called The Cyber Hymnal for more than 15 years. It took all of his time and attention, he spent far more time with it than me or the kids, and I had repeatedly asked him to spend less time on it. When I asked him to shut it off to save our marriage he agreed, and then begged NOT to. We even saw a counselor who suggested more time together. The gift was given for Mother's day which of course is right after Easter. He wrote the poem as words to a hymn of which the music already existed. It was not about mothers or love or children, it was about Easter and Jesus, and resurrection. He dedicated the hymn to me on his website. When the divorce filing was done one of the stipulations was he remove my name and all references to me from his website. So, from my point of view his intent was to produce a gift with as little effort and forethought as possible. I often referred to the website as "the other woman" and told him often I did not care to hear about it. Tell me what you think his "INTENT" was.

HippieChick58 replies on Dec 27, 2018:
The quilts for the daughters are not bed sized quilts. They are snuggle on the sofa while watching TV size quilts. At least one of them has a very cold basement which is where the TV is. The granddaughter's quilt is twin size, which in the US means it is a one person bed. The mattress is about 38" X 70". I have a quilt on my lap right now that is of similar size to the daughter's quilts.

The way that guy writes, it sounds like he's never been through the agony of losing someone close to him, which, means to me, that he's just another wanna-be shrink spewing out his blather. I really dislike those people that try to put rose colored glasses on the pain of being without the one I love...
HippieChick58 replies on Dec 25, 2018:
With all due respect, I know you are grieving and I know you feel like it will never get better, but it will. You have some work to do, I can't say I know what it is but if you are stuck it may be time to find help. Would your late wife have wanted you to spend the rest of your life grieving her? I think she would have wanted you to be able to move on and find happiness again. It doesn't mean you love her less, it means you are still alive and that is what living is. Forgive yourself for what ever it is that is holding you back. It is hard, it is more than hard, but it can be done. If I have hurt your feelings or said things out of line I apologize, but I don't want to see you stuck where you are. There is so much more to life out there and it is waiting for you. There is no timeline for grief, but it is also not supposed to be so intense forever. I'm not telling you to "get over it", but I am saying I hope you find peace.

When that idiot Obama was president we were definitely on the decline but now that we have a strong leader in Trump we have been making a nice recovery.

Yeah, the stock market just went into free fall. Trump is a dickhead of major order and the US is going down the toilet. I miss Obama. Under Asshat Drumpf the rich are getting richer and plundering the US, and the common folks are cannon fodder. Obama was well educated and polished. Drumpf is a moron of the first order. How you can support him, how anyone can support him just is beyond my imagining. I wish you well, but you are sadly deluded.

@glennlab depends on what the gift is. A household appliance would likely not be a welcome gift from an SO. I think a gift from someone special should be very personal and fun, not anything like a vacuum cleaner or microwave. That is just me.

@Lillyfield41 I think the depression/feeling down is exacerbated at this time of year. For those of us in the northern hemisphere there is the lack of sunlight/daylight plus the cold and more isolation. There there is all the advertisements everywhere showing people having a jolly good time, and the hustle and bustle, and everyone wishing you good cheer. So if you're feeling challenged the rest of the year, this time of year it is more of a challenge. Plus you know that the post holiday let down is coming.... and the bills, and more bad weather, and it just seems all you can do is hang on til Spring gets here.
