I have decided if I meet someone it will have to be in real life and though one of the activities I participate in. Since my usual activities are the Humanist group, that pretty much means they won't be conservative xians which is the majority of my area. I can't meet someone at work because we are WFH at least til 2022. I don't know if it is easier to live with hope and then be disappointed, or to give up on it and acknowledge no or limited hope. Either way, I deal better in reality and focus on doing what I want to do. At least I know when I want a my needs taken care of it will happen with no side effects.

George Takei as usual, has been sticking his foot in his mouth since he contracted Trump Derangement...

He isn't saying anything that many people aren't thinking. There are many "causes" of being fat, people get AIDS without being homosexual, and people that don't smoke get lung cancer. But Covid can be slowed down if not stopped by taking precautions and getting the damn vaccine. Personally those that have been very public about not getting the vaccine I think are deserving of scorn, if not limited medical care. I think it is awesome Karma that when they have been so outspoken and obnoxious they come down with this "hoax" disease. Karma is working overtime recently. The US is still a free country. Morons and regular people are allowed to express their opinions. If YOU dont' like George Takei change the channel or turn off the TV or whatever. You can't pick and choose who gets a platform to express their opinions, but you don't have to listen, or complain about it. If you know you don't like George, don't listen to George. I don't like Tucker Carlson or Rush Limbaugh. Rush did us a favor by shuffling off this mortal coil. I don't watch TV or Fox News ever, so I can avoid Tucker Carlson. Everyone is happy. Thank goodness you're not George Takei. You would likely not have survived what he's been through.

I work customer service in a financial institution. On Friday as caller was wrapping up he mentioned he was going to go buy some lumber, and I mentioned the price had really risen during the pandemic. He treated me to a lecture that the pandemic wasn't real.... And I rolled my eyes (thank goodness I'm not on camera) and wished him a good day. Oy, for being a national company I think only about 10% of my callers give me clues as to how ignorant they are. 10% or more give me clues as to how liberal they are. The rest just go by in a blur.

I work for a credit union, and I am trained on credit cards. EVERY day, at least once, if not 5 times, I am getting a call from a member who has been scammed. If you haven't called the card issuer, please do. They have protocols for investigating scams and disputes. Some of the calls just break my heart, they're hurting people who don't have much in the way of resources. Almost makes me want to go back to cash and checks.

My dog ate a piece of paper with Girl Scout badges stapled to it. I wasn't worried about the badges, I was worried about the staples. I put peanut butter on a slice of bread, doused it in hydrogen peroxide, and he scarfed it down. Then I let him out in the yard, the ex was cooking something on the grill. He stood nearby for a moment and drooled at the grill. Then he ran into the grass, barfed his toenails up, and avoided the grill forever after that. The staples came out of him, the badges we're pretty gross.

I have tomatoes on my counter right now. They're ripe enough, I just haven't decided what to do with them. There are quite a few more out in the garden that are ready to be picked. I will be doing something with them during the weekend. I do use the paper bag trick frequently to ripen fruits. Also poke some ventilation holes in a paper bag and you can fill it with fresh herbs to dry. It keeps the dust off them. I have several bags of herbs drying in the kitchen.

The smoke has been affecting us here in Nebraska. I have not noticed any ill effects, just lots of haze. But then, I also don't go out terribly much, just toooo dang hot. I completed a jigsaw puzzle this summer while I was unemployed. I had a surface to put it on that my cats would not disturb it (the work computer was gone). I had the puzzle for several years, and just couldn't find a place to work on it that the cats couldn't access. When I started to WFH I got a new desk. Now that I'm working again, the desk has a computer set up on it again, no more puzzles.
