@TheDoubter yes, and I'm pretty sure if we did the biological testing we'd find some "interesting" results. I read a book about the daughters of Thomas Jefferson. There was quite a discussion of how mixed blacks could pass off as white, and the penalties if they did "escape" into the white worlds. I wonder how many whites really have blood that isn't lily white.

HippieChick58 replies on Sep 14, 2018:
@Sheannutt You look reasonably slim. I OTOH am not. From some reading I've done fasting can increase your insulin sensitivity and therefore stave off Diabetes. As I have no insurance atm, and have been pre-diabetic for a very long time, I decided this was a good time to try that. I want to avoid medications as much as possible. Fasting is not calorie reduction, so your body will actually start to use the stores of fat that you have. I fasted last week and ended the fast at a Sushi restaurant with family. I am sure I got my calories in.

I can zest the rind, and dry it and save it, the squeeze and freeze the lemon juice for future use. Then I will put the remaining rinds in a jar, cover with white vinegar and close the jar up. Let this infuse until I remember it is there, then drain into a spray bottle. The lemon/vinegar infusion is a great, non toxic cleansing spray. The leftover rinds can then be run down the garbage disposal to clean and freshen that.

I used to enjoy cooking. Cooking for one is not so fun so I cook only as needed. I cook a really good meal every other month when my kids come to dinner.

@azzow2 a few years ago 2 of my girls and I ate at a local restaurant, the younger really liked something she had and found a copycat recipe online. And then she fixed it for it next time we had a meal at her house. My issue with cooking right now is I end up with leftovers and lack of storage, and stuff spoils. Making smaller batches more frequently is just annoying. :) I grew up cooking for 8 so I can do big batches. And not sharing meals, I want something I can take out of the kitchen. I eat most meals in front of the computer.

@azzow2 Maybe it was using electricity, maybe it was not going to sleep and we'd be tired the next day. I'm not sure. But yes, I got in big trouble more than once for having a light on after my bedtime. I had my lightbulbs removed more than once, I'd go in the bathroom and read. Yes, my dad was an abusive asshole.

@Besalbub I started making soap thinking I'd sell it in an Etsy shop. There is a ton of competition on Etsy and I really didn't have time for marketing and managing. So now I have soap to last for several years, which is just fine. I sold a few other things on Etsy. I found soap making to be fascinating, how different oils have different properties, some make the soap later well, some make it creamy, etc. Working with lye makes it kinda dangerous. I just found it a great deal of fun.

I've read the argument that on military bases EVERYONE gets out of cars, removes hats, faces the flag, and is silent during the national anthem. Yes, because if you don't you or your military member sponsor can face disciplinary action. Will I do that off base. Nope. Nothing like coercion to promote false patriotism.
