No suffering, no machines, a chance to say goodbye to the loved ones and say my last words of encouragement to them. My mom died at 45, way too young. She never got to meet any grandchildren. I have outlived mom by 18 years so far. I have grands that will remember me forever. I have tangible evidence of my existence. All of the children have quilts that I have made for them. If I die tonight I'm pretty sure the oldest grand will remember me. You're never truly gone as long as your memory lives on. I'm doing my best to leave a trail of solid evidence that I once walked the earth. And I think that is all you can do. Now I gotta tell ya, if one of my kids dies before I do I will not be so sanguine. That would be out of the "normal" order of things. And if one of the grands... don't even think on that. I'm not ready to go now, but I am not afraid of it when it does come for me.

My tomatoes are loving the heat. This year I moved the herbs, especially the basil up to the deck to keep the damn bunnies out of it. On the deck there is basil of several varieties and multiple plants. There is catnip on the far right. And there is cilantro that has bolted already with other herbs in the center pot. The tomatoes will need support very soon. The hostas to the side of the deck did not get beaten down by hail this year. And the rusty sign says "Grammy's Garden" and was a mother's day gift. Now I just need to get the sprinkler system turned on and I'll be good to go.

My house was hit by lightening about 8 weeks after we moved in. That being said, I did enjoy my time in Kansas and hated to move to Omaha. You need to become your best friend. I am not the most social person, and I'm rather dismayed my book club is going back to public meetings in a restaurant (a. the drive and b. the cost of the meal). Other than work which has been remote, my kids that I see in person on average of less than once a week, and my Humanist group activities, I'm pretty solitary. I sew, I craft, I read tons of books, I garden, I cook, and I do whatever I damn well please. I highly doubt I ever have another long term relationship, my area is not known for liberal agnostic/atheist men over age 55.
