LOL!! My kitties scatter to the 4 winds when the doorbell rings, or when someone new enters the house. They return quickly when it is Daughter #2 because she is over here at least weekly and she loves kitties. When the grands are here they disappear when the adults come in, and then come back out when it is just the kiddoes. If it is a stranger they're out of site until the coast has been clear for at least an hour, or until they're hungry.

Elfster is pretty smart, it can be programmed so the ex and I never draw each other's names. That said, whichever kid drew their dad I'd love for them to use this paper. Ex voted for dumpsterfire Donnie, and one of the kids is uber pissed with him. She delivers groceries to us, and each time she goes to his house wears her Biden/Harris face mask. Is it ok to affirm someone's untrue beliefs?
HippieChick58 comments on Nov 29, 2020:
I have never had an employer who was even remotely interested in what I believed in, except for my first full time + employer, the US Army. Then I had to swear to uphold and defend the constitution, and I was really OK with that and I would do it again today, in fact I've never stopped doing it. If it is an acquaintance who is asking what I believe in, that will depend on the social situation. In a work based setting I'm not going to advertise I'm an atheist, no sense in giving anyone at work any ammunition for anything. My work life and social life are pretty strictly separated. I've never had to have that conversation with any of my neighbors, and I've lived where I am for almost 8 years. The siblings I associate with are well aware of my beliefs. If any acquaintance starts spouting flat earth or other untrue BS, I'm likely to just walk away. I have given up on being the idiot whisperer. If I judge the beliefs a danger to me I may speak up, or may just remove myself from any contact with the. Some of the best life advice is "choose your battles." If it is endangering one of my offspring I will come out swinging, if not, they're a failure of the education system and I don't have time or strength to take that fight on.

Turkeys are murdered in the name of tradition, which is something the Brits excel at. Our Christmas "dinner" can be whatever we want it to be, Thanksgiving in the US there is usually a choice of Ham or Turkey. I had my Thanksgiving dinner last Saturday with some of the family, today I have been home alone. Tomorrow one of the kids is delivering a Thanksgiving meal to me. Friday is the day of the post Thanksgiving abomination called Black Friday which I refuse to participate in. Our Christmas day festivities usually begins with breakfast of Sausage gravy on biscuits, that is our tradition. 3 years ago our Christmas festivities had to be expanded to include a birthday for my first grandchild, she will be 4 on Christmas day, and every child deserves a birthday celebration.

I am alone today too. We had a family Thanksgiving last Saturday, two of the girls were there, but it was a small gathering. Today I am sewing, and doing laundry. I have a quilt to finish. I'm also fasting. I don't know if I will fast all day or not, but I decided as this is an unusual Thanksgiving I will really bend the norms. One of the kids is going to bring by a feast tomorrow, so I will eat a more traditional meal tomorrow. Tomorrow I also have to complete some mandatory overtime. This is totally not the normal, but kinda not surprising given the rest of 2020.

For those without a comfort human this winter, how do you keep cozy and warm?
HippieChick58 comments on Nov 25, 2020:
My bed has a quilt, and a blanket, and more quilts, and some afghans on it, And usually a cat or two somewhere. I even keep a fan on most of the winter. I keep the bedroom cool, but not cold. I have always loved the weight of blankets, I sleep better under the weight of the blankets. During the day I wear jackets or sweaters as needed. While I am WFG I wear yoga pants and Tshirts, one long sleeve with a short sleeve underneath. Then I add a lap quilt to my lap and usually have a fleece jacket on.

Are you ready to reduce your carbon footprint?
HippieChick58 comments on Nov 21, 2020:
I eat far less beef than the average Nebraskan. I lean hard towards vegetarian. My house is pretty small as it is. It could be smaller, for me there is lots of wasted space, but I'm not willing to move again unless there is a really good reason. I haven't flown in several years, and have no plans to go anywhere for a while. As for fewer children... yeah, I don't plan to ever have more, but the ones I gave birth to are reproducing and that is out of my control. I'd like to have solar panels on my roof, but right now that is not an option. I avoid plastics whenever possible, but lots of places are not allowing you to bring in your own bags right now, so that option has dwindled. I grow at least some of my own food, and I'm careful about the temperature I keep my house. I recycle what I can and reuse what I can. I have an on demand water heater, which I love. My car is 13 years old, it will have to be replaced sooner or later. WFH has been great to reduce automobile use, I'm loving that. I don't buy much clothing, again WFH I can get by with yoga pants and T shirts. Why did I resist WFH? Now fabric... that I buy; all cotton though, which is better for the planet than polyesters are.
