HippieChick58 comments on Jul 1, 2018:
I don't bake as much as I used to, but I still have vanilla beans in 100-proof vodka in my pantry. Man that stuff is dark, been there for 3 or 4... or 5 years. I also made vanilla sugar and vanilla salt. Cut up the beans and mix into salt or sugar, let it sit, shake every few months. Gives the salts or sugars a vanilla taste. The vanilla salt is really good on ice cream.

Do you like to fly?
HippieChick58 comments on Jul 1, 2018:
I don't mind flying, it gets me there faster. However, if the airplane is too crowded or too long I tend to get a bit claustrophobic. Too many other people breathing the same air. Small town airports are interesting. If you ever have a chance to fly into Grand Island, NE you think you're going to crash in a corn field and then the runway appears like magic!!

HippieChick58 comments on Jul 1, 2018:
I agree. Religions are meant to keep people apart, to divide and conquer. I have no issues with gender fluid persons, all I ask is that they forgive me when I mess up pronouns because I'm old with ingrained habits. For example when a Rebecca becomes a he my brain doesn't make that switch easily or quickly, but I try. If the bible is taken literally I would have been stoned ages ago. And I give the bible no place in my life today.

HippieChick58 comments on Jul 1, 2018:
It is a huge pimping of girls. Not to mention that girls are put into supporting roles and told boys sports are more important than theirs. Plus cheerleading is a huge popularity contest. I never told my girls they couldn't go out for cheerleader. They told me they didn't want to. Two were in the marching band and none of them had much good to say about the cheerleaders or their relative intelligence.

HippieChick58 comments on Jul 1, 2018:
India and Bangladesh already have coastal areas that are flooded and the population has had to move inland, which is worsening the crowding in cities with all the attendant problems. There are coastal roads on the East Coast that are flooded out on a regular basis, and some pricey property that is now really water front. New Orleans will be gone, as will Florida, Charleston, Norfolk, VA, New York, Houston, and DC. Its pretty grim.

HippieChick58 comments on Jul 1, 2018:
LOL!! When I was a teenager and sick in bed with horrible crud, my stepmother let the cat (Cocoa) in, did not notice the bird in her mouth. Cocoa jumped up on the foot of my bed and proceeded to try to dismember the bird. I grabbed her and kicked the bird off the bed and yelled for the parents. Stepmother got the corpse and tossed it in a covered trash can. Cocoa went looking for the bird, and then came back and scolded me for several minutes as only a Siamese can. She was my first heart cat. But oh gross, dead birds and stuff.

HippieChick58 comments on Jul 1, 2018:
I have a "sewing" room. I have a sewing machine, serger, embroidery machine, many scissors, rotary cutters, yarn, fabric and craft supplies. Yes, it does need its own room. The closet is full and overflowing with fabric. I also store stuff in there, like wrapping supplies. And yes it needs some organization. Any quilter will tell you that you NEVER throw away scraps, it might just what you need to finish a project and save you a trip to the fabric store. Fabric stores are wonderful dangerous places. I go in for one item thinking 15 minutes max and come out 4 hours later with 24 or 30 new items.

I love my home, it is my nest where I can shut out the world, however sometimes I am alone too much. I try to keep busy, I have lots of projects that bring me pleasure. I quilt, and other crafts. HippieChick58 comments on Jun 30, 2018:
Read up so you understand dementia. You don't mention how old your mom is. It is considered Early Onset if she is in her 50s, and that is not a good sign. Many people with Alzheimer's tend to do better early in the day, and the night time brings on the dementia, otherwise known as sundowning which sounds like may be going on with your mom. Dementia is one cruel ass disease, it robs the victim of their personality and leaves only the shell.

Age range for dating
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 30, 2018:
My kids are 26 to 33, I am 60. A few years ago they "strongly suggested" that I date someone at least closer to my age than to the age of my oldest. So, doing the math, someone not more than 13 years younger than I am. I'm comfortable with that. On the high side, depends on how well they have aged.

Bad dates, let's hear them!
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 30, 2018:
Bad dates, so many really. One dude talked about his baby mama drama allllll through dinner. I got the subject changed for about 8 minutes total three different times. He is mostly why I vowed to not date men with small children. One guy who was in recovery for a TBI, not able to work any longer being cared for by family. He did live independently but family was keeping tabs on him. He was looking for a nurse, and that is not what I'm looking for. He had yellow teeth and really poor social skills. Yeah the TBI explains the social skills, but personal hygiene... ewww. One guy talked about zombies all through dinner, that was all. Not a zombie fan, don't understand the fascination. There was the guy who was looking for someone to help him figure out what he wanted to do with his life. He was 44, living at moms. Just left a call center job because he was bored. I told him I was finished raising children and wasn't looking for a project.

When my oldest got the the age I was when I was abused it freed me because I was then able to fully understand it wasn't my fault. I was too young to know anything and too young to have prevented it. That awakened the Mama Bear in me, I protect my cubs and it doesn't take much for someone to become my cub. And divorce changed me, I found out again how resilient I am.
