Humanist-
Atheist & agnostic- I do not believe that there is any evidence for god or gods. On the contrary, suffering shows that either there is no god, r that she/he/it doesn't give a damn. Or else is powerless. Either way...
Ex-christian- have a Master of Diivnity degree. And I even was paid to write sunday school lessons. But that was a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...
I collect books (no, I haven't thoroughly readf them all- not enough time), kaleidoscopes. I have a small collection of rocks, minerals, glassware.
I enjoy photography.

Being woke must be exhausting. 😂
HumanistJohn comments on Jul 12, 2020:
Let's look at facts. You seem to be implying that racism doesn't exist because this time it wasn't a racist threat. That, of couse, is not true- one instance of something cannot and does not disprove the majority of circumstances. The driver was just assigned that bay. Then the noose was discovered. NASCAR officials were the ones that called for investigation. Given the state of racism in this country, NASCAR's decision was appropriate. How many so-called 'jokes' did you hear when Obama was President (a true President, not like that orange blob traitor we have now)? Something about making Obama a Christmas ornament because they wanted to see a black man hanging from a tree. Disgusting. There have been many lynchings and outright murder of blacks in this country. Read history, for a change. Those who think that racism doesn't exist in this country only serve to perpetuate it.
Don’t Let Trump Use This Moment to Sneak in Domestic Terrorism Laws
HumanistJohn comments on Jun 6, 2020:
These people will attempt to label as terrorists **anyone** who doesn't support their agenda of letting corporations do what they damn well please; **anyone** who protests fossil fuels, **anyonr** who supports church/state separation, and so on. Thew list is quite exhaustive. They've already managed to outlaw protests against fossil fuels. The s-called prez equates peaceful protesters with 'thugs' (a typical right-wing tactic). Democracy is on the brink. And humanity is on the brink also, given the right-wing's disdain for the environment.

HumanistJohn comments on Sep 14, 2020:
What the hell is this? fox "news" is a propaganda channel. They lie all the time. Look at fucker carlson with all his lies, such as the immigrants are coming to take your homes. And of course we know that billy barrf (the 'f' is not a typo) is going to try & "prove" that any investigation into russian involvement was unwarranted. But it wasn't/isn't. Even the Senate republicans admitted that people in the tRump campaign had contacts with russian agents (read the report, all you repug bastards). So this "investigation" is more of barrf's lies and bullshit to protect the wanna-be dictator, orange blob pos. A vote for tRump is a vote for putin.

What is the source of non-religious prudishness or disgust at nudity or sexuality?
HumanistJohn comments on Sep 13, 2020:
Religious ideas are so much a part of the western culture that it pervades everything. Even the non-religious are affected by the religious attitude. The idea of sin & unworthiness us deeply ingrained, culturally. How many people complained about janet jackson's 'wardrobe malfunction' but don't give a damn about injustice? It's cultural heritage. Women are taught to be ashamed of their bodies as a matter of control. I agree with @nunya that most women have been abused; I've heard many stories from friends & lovers. We must all strive to overcome all the shit that surrounds us.

It is disheartening to see such things. And, yes, in a service like that, they will be caught up in the moment and will confuse their altered state of mind to be the spirit of god. However... we obviously can't get inside their head. We don't know what may go through their mind in moments of despair Nor do we know what doubts they may have. We can't know what may crack their armor or, to use another metaphor, we can't know what cracks life has put in the lenses of their god glasses. There is always hope, at least for some of them......
