Hellooo! Welcome to the group. Today we will be looking at the coq au vin or maybe we can just concentrate on the au vin.
Different path?
JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
I would simplify, lose all attachments, and study the Upanishads. But I say that knowing what I know now and I only know these things thanks to the suffering I have endured by my prior mistakes that I wish to correct. So it is a catch-22 situation. Instead I embrace my losses as freeing, seek to deny all materiality, and work to rid myself of ego. This accomplishes the task and let's me keep what I know from those prior experiences of suffering.
Atheists need to come out of the closets in which they hide, and speak out about the pious if they ...
JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
Well that is an easy thing to say if you live in a nation or state with religious freedom. however we don't all live in such places. there are many places in the world that speaking up as such would land you in jail or worse. even aside from those consequences you also could be ostracized and unable to find a job or a place to live or be denied services. I share you view, but your solution is a tad myopic on a global level.

How is revenge best served...?
JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
Revenge serves no one and solves nothing. we must learn to forgive and show compassion for those who would transgress against us. give of yourself first with no expectation of return. the Isha Upanishad tells us to own nothing and renounce all. this is the key to happiness.
What are 5 useless facts about you?
JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
1. I enjoy getting high although I often choose a good indica due to chronic pain from an intestinal ailment. 2. my family is all southern baptists and they have chosen to avoid contact with me due to my smoking weed and living as a Hindu sage. This includes my children. 3. I work a couple of days a week for a few hours as a criminal defense attorney. 4. I spent 8 years in the US Navy as a nuclear engineer. 5. My pet is a stubborn cairn terrier named Picasso (Pook for short).
What creative outlets do you enjoy?
JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
I get high then pursue academic endeavors down a rabbit hole taking them as far as I can in study. I am currently studying the cultural evolution of man from homo habilus in Africa to cro-magnon/neandertal/denisovan migration to ice age population declines to cro-magnon taking over as lead hominid to present man's life as a hunter gatherer to our beginnings as farmers in the fertile crescent to the beginnings of communities to the first writings in sanskrit to the vedas to indus valley civilization to the far, near and middle east advancements to modern history to the present.
If you could just pick up and move today where would you move to?

Hobart, Tasmania.
For atheists - what makes you believe no deity exists?
JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
Because the entire concept of a god is a human one. Until we learn the true science behind things we tend to assign a magical reasoning. I prefer to substitute a black box that says "tbd" instead of a mystical father figure up above deciding fates and fortunes.
If God created the world, who made God?
JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
The word "god" is merely a personification of the universe.
Today I have heard the word "amazing" used at least ten times about the most mundane things such as ...
JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
I would suggest that you smoke more weed. Then you will find the word much less bothersome and many more things equally amazing.
How do you feel about talking openly about athiesm
JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
We each pick our own path. the destination is the same for all. if someone chooses a path of pain and suffering then it might be helpful to persuade them that such a choice is not necessary. but if they are happy then it's best to applaud them their happiness and move on.
Why am I single?
JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
We are all single. even the siamese twins among us. become comfortable with yourself and focus your efforts there. this way you are prepared whether or not you decide to allow someone else to share your life ... and you'll find yourself more recptive to it. namaste.
Who else is short and they are constantly reminded daily about their height?
JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
Ego is a killer. when we get past it our lives are so much easier. instead of lamenting my own issues as a short person I congratulate those who are blessed with excessive "tallness". view your own shortcomings (no pun intended) as an opportunity for personal growth vice an impediment. our sufferings teach us.

JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
It is borne of paranoia and insecurity.
A list that I can really get behind. What do you all think?
JeffMesser comments on Feb 28, 2018:
I'd suggest reading the Upanishads. In fact, just 3 generally presented at the beginning of most interpretations: Isha, Katha, Brihadaranyaka. If the word "Lord" troubles you then just consider it to be a personification of the ethereal matter throughout the universe. Consciousness embodying the space between us. Anyway you'll find that those 3 contain the entirety of your list. You could also refer to T.S. Eliot's "The Wasteland" to find the manner in which you'd meet the items on that list ... damyata datta dayadhvam. namaste my friend.
