Happy Wednesday Fellow Hippies - It's cold and sunny with several inches of snow.
JeffMesser comments on Jan 30, 2019:
nah, but that's ok. we all have our own path.

JeffMesser comments on Jan 28, 2019:
I am gonna disagree. First, hispanics are more akin to republican ideology than democrat. Here in southside OKC the hispanics are more like anna navarro republicans. Their only tie to democrats is the racist hatred of trump and the trumpeteers. second ... I dont think brokaw was being racist. he was saying that they need to assimilate american culture more and thats a valid argument. When he talked about brown grandbabies that was him imitating others asking him that question. I dont think it an invalid argument to despair over losing american culkture to a hispanic influx. we're SUPPOSED to meld together but what we tend to do is group up in little italy and little china etc... we DO need to meld the cultures together better and that was brokaws point. and it's a valid, good point.

My wife has decided to move out.
JeffMesser comments on Jan 28, 2019:
Mine grabbed the kids and ran off while I was tending to my son's baseball team fundraiser. Then my mom was committed and died ... then my dad died. Then I had 2 heart attacks and died on the way to the hospital. Of course the ex's departure was partially due to my half-brother raping my youngest daughter and being barely punished by the juvenile system. I was, to say the least, destroyed. Emotionally, spiritually, financially, "careerly". The only relative I had left was my sister and she moved away and had no time to talk. I was living a jerry springer life. Absent anything else in my life at all I turned to secular buddhism - the place where it was best NOT to have any of those ties. I learned to find happiness within myself and in the moment. There was no magic deity or mystical advice that was gonna turn my life around. Everyone I'd ever had in my life left me or died. I could only rely on me so that's just what I did. I can honestly say that 20 years later I am more content than any other time in my life. I rebuilt my inner self. You gotta find your path to personal happiness.
Is morality "subjective"?
JeffMesser comments on Jan 28, 2019:
morality is a flawed concept. social acceptance is the better tool.
In a discussion, I overheard the difference between Republicans and Democrats. What do you think?
JeffMesser comments on Jan 28, 2019:
Democrats accept dualism and are able to think selflessly. Republicans do not and think of themselves and their own first. Democrats can be we thinkers while republicans are only me thinkers.

Homosexuality: natural or not.
JeffMesser comments on Jan 27, 2019:
I suffer from low T and have actually had a "lesser" libido dating all the way back to my teens. I am hetero but I just dont have the raging hormones others seem to feel. never have. neither did my father or my grandfather. my biological children also had low hormonal levels and one, born my daughter, now identifies as a male. I can't help but think that has some role in gender self-ID. I think it starts somehow biologically and is reinforced with social influence. maybe the biology spurs it. or vice versa. I hope some day they figure it out so people aren't traumatized as they are now.

keep in mind that the subject you're breaching is close to the hearts of these people. so much so in fact that it threatens their personal security. this often sets the limbic system into gear and the pre-frontal cortext isn't even engaged. so all you get are those same thoughts gaining adrenaline and emo momentum from the cerebrum with no chance of the PFC's executive control and reasoning section becoming involved. the limbic short circuits it. challenging long-held beliefs is one of the 4 classic anger triggers.
Bill Maher Doubles Down on Comic Fans
JeffMesser comments on Jan 27, 2019:
There was nothing hilarious about it. Minutes earlier Maher railed on Bloomberg about criticizing those who choose to smoke marijuana. Then he himself turns around and ridicules those who choose to follow the myths they enjoyed as children. His lack of consistency belies a lack of understanding. I like superhero movies and I also represent criminal defendants in court with their very lives at stake ... possibly among the most adult of actions one may perform. So to me Mahers' view is idiocy. The fact that he uses a buy-bull quote to support his little diatribe is just laughable and ironic coming from Mr. Religulous.

JeffMesser comments on Jan 20, 2019:
well, I am gonna tell you. Neither side holds the absolute high ground here. Those Kentucky kids were at a rally or somesuch that was anti-abortion and the indigenous march happened to be going on nearby - or that's how I hear it. Fair enough ... they're catholics. But then they mock a native american singing a chant. They're kids with little to no experience in the world much less with native american culture. They don't understand the significance of his song to him and his beliefs and people. To them it's just some bullshit song that they can ridicule. Like kids do. So they mock him mercilessly. In response this veteran gets in their faces and doubles down on his efforts. He invades their private space and, by our standards, proceeds to taunt them by singing even louder. This is disrespect by both sides of the debate. They were obviously wrong to mock him and ridicule him for his protest and beliefs. But he was also wrong to taunt them and invade their space. I don't blame their parents for being angered over the veterans' actions. Education needs to happen for the kids and realization that young people don't have to always be silent needs to happen for that veteran.

JeffMesser comments on Jan 14, 2019:
Enough has been admitted on national television and in interviews to make the prima facie case against Trump - at least for a petition under 52 USC 30121. As a prosecutor I'd also say that enough has likewise been admitted to make conspiracy to obstruct charges as well. Aside from the recent discovery of data-sharing between Manafort and Kilimnik you also have the negotiations surrounding Trump Tower Moscow. The entire trump campaign team consistently lied or "forgot to admit" contacts with Russian parties in an effort to keep such negotiating on the "down low". Unfortunately those omissions created leverage for the Russians. The exact leverage that the government looks for in approving or denying security clearances.

Been a couple of times. If I were going back I'd devote a majority of my time to the Vatican. Also the areas around the Coliseum often have some digs going on much of the time and you can see some cool things. But the Vatican has the most amazing historical art you will ever see. I could spend weeks just going thru the murals on many of the walls in corridors. Oh, and monasteries make excellent sleeping arrangements.

JeffMesser comments on Dec 29, 2018:
I dont work for profit so I don't normally have money to share. A few years ago I was given some "extra" and I searched for a place to send it. At almost the exact some time I watched as this place in Noble (Wildcare Oklahoma) nursed a baby sparrow (!!??!!) from hatchling to adult for release. A sparrow. I couldn't not send them money after that. A sparrow is literally the least among us and the birds that I love to feed and watch over for just that reason. So my "extra" goes to them.

I feel ya. You and I share a common understanding of the world that they do not share. I believe in self-sacrifice. I believe that the common good is more important than the personal good. I believe in the all over the one. I am a "we" person as opposed to a "me" person. So are you. But we can't look past the fact that the "me" people also have a place in this universe. Their beliefs have justifications that suit their own lives. Even though it may be at the opposite end of the spectrum from what WE believe ... it still has its own place and support. The reality is supposed to somewhere between our extremes. And it goes back and forth to maintain a balance. Which gives both ends merit. I like to look at it this way: in space there is filler and there is glue. Both are needed. So look to understand where it comes from and maybe why their view is different than you own. I think intelligence plays a part as does opportunity. Education comes into play as does experience and travel. I use each one as a test case to filter "where they went wrong". But I do understand your dilemma and I sympathize. My relatives are Okies.

Unfortunately the big, gray squirrels from the States bully the little red ones around now that so many have found their way to the island and have made the brits angry. As for your statement - I'd step back and take another look at the 4 levels of the brain. BDSM, or any type of supposedly errant behavior for that matter, normally finds its' roots in conditioning. Some association along the way was made such that the limbic system produced a dopamine response to the activities in question.

Think about this now. How long do you think you could go without judging someone?
JeffMesser comments on Jul 31, 2018:
talk of not judging someone is such a bunch of crap. we have no choice but to judge people. our minds do it automatically in the subconscious and our bodies respond ... even before our conscious mind has time to make any evaluation. you have to dig deep deeeeeeep into the recesses of the mind and combat thoughts laid down just after birth or perhaps even before in order to curtail "all judging". judging is what our mind does. it compares and evaluates one constellation of neuron points to the last or to the known if confronted with something new. so basically you're asking when or how will we completely go against what our mind was designed to do. the answer we can't and wont. we will hide it maybe but the effects will always be there.
