How women’s reproductive rights stalled under Trump - Vox
LEPeff comments on Feb 2, 2018:
Can you think of a more ridiculous pairing than Donald Trump and the moral majority?
End of the world
LEPeff comments on Feb 2, 2018:
I agree with you. I think the Earth is tougher than we give her credit for. I've head a lot of people talk about humanity causing the end of the world...bullshit. The human race is a bad case of acne on the face of the planet and nothing more. We can't end the world. We can make it uninhabitable for ourselves, but our planet will be here long after humanity is gone.
Never make permanent decisions on temporary feelings.

Facing Pain
LEPeff comments on Feb 1, 2018:
I think that a good deal of our difficulty in handling intense emotions like grief is because our society is so shallow and superficial that most of us, myself included, are not equipped to deal with it. People say stupid, but well meaning things to distract from the grief. I think that the best thing that I can do for someone who is grieving is to shut the fuck up and listen to them. I really don't know what else I can do to help.
I just had a long, stupid day. What do you do to unwind and relax?

Wow! I'm a supporter of people having service animals if they need them, but some people take advantage of that and put their pets in a vest and call them service animals. I wonder if that was an example of someone abusing that system.
Is it "shallow" to care about looks when it comes to picking a partner?
LEPeff comments on Jan 31, 2018:
I think that we all have little things that are important to us individually and attractiveness can be subjective. It's nice to be around someone that looks nice, it gets old really fast if that person has a shitty personality.
Have you ever been told you look like someone famous?
LEPeff comments on Jan 31, 2018:

Who is your favorite villain?
LEPeff comments on Jan 30, 2018:
Macbeth. In many good stories the hero starts out vulnerable and grows wiser, stronger, and more virtuous as the story progresses. It is the opposite in Macbeth. He starts out as a loyal soldier for his King and devolves into a villain with no qualms about murdering anyone who gets in his way.

My mother has been on my mind a lot lately.
LEPeff comments on Jan 29, 2018:
I'm sorry to hear that. It might be worth reaching out to her, but it's obviously a risk. I was exceptionally lucky with my mom. She did not always like or accept what I did, but I knew that she always loved me. She has been gone for over two years now and I still miss her. If you can patch things up with her it would be great, but that is something that you will have to do together. Good luck.

Why Won't God Heal Amputees?
LEPeff comments on Jan 28, 2018:
The placebo effect is an incredible thing. If you have some condition, but your brain releases endorphins you can get temporary relief from a lot of conditions. That is why faith healing works. When the temporary effects wear off it's either because the sufferer's faith was not great enough or they did something to displease God. Either way it's the sufferer's fault. None of this works with amputees.

LEPeff comments on Jan 28, 2018:
Wow, I thought that cattywompus was an old timey term.
What are your opinions on prostitution?
LEPeff comments on Jan 28, 2018:
I have very mixed feelings about this. I'm a libritarian and feel that any adult should be allowed to do whatever they want so long as they are not hurting anyone else. Unfortunately many sex workers have a history of victimization and exploitation and are probably not really willing participants in the trade. In situations like that they require protection not prosecution.
Why do people with mental illnesses get referred to as crazy?
LEPeff comments on Jan 28, 2018:
It is easier to call someone crazy than it is to look deeper into what is really going on. You can dismiss whatever is said by someone that's "crazy". That term is dehumanizing, it literally takes away your value as a human being. I've worked in the Mental Health field for years and I can tell you that having multiple diagnoses could say more about your evaluator than it does about you. Clinical diagnoses are not as accurate as medical ones. I could go on for days about this, but I won't bore you. Try to keep in mind that other people's simplistic views of you do not define you as a human being.

Where do you spend your vacation?
LEPeff comments on Jan 26, 2018:
I like a staycation to get things done around the house. Too often I allow myself to be pulled into trips to the Deep South in the middle of the summer. I'm an idiot. I almost never go in the winter when it would be pleasant.
Frustrated
LEPeff comments on Jan 25, 2018:
I don't think that you will ever be able to change a religious person's mind because no matter how logical your argument because, generally, religious people believe in changing the facts to fit their beliefs instead of changing their belief to fit the facts. If you are able to learn to tune others out it might make life a little less frustrating for you.
If your tongue could only process one type of flavor, which would it be?
LEPeff comments on Jan 25, 2018:
I would choose bitter because avoiding sweet and savory flavor so would help me lose weight, avoiding salty would lower my blood pressure, and being able to recognize bitter flavor could help me avoid being poisoned.
General vent about being atheist in a very Christian community.
LEPeff comments on Jan 25, 2018:
Why does God get all the credit when good things happen but he does not get any of the blame when things go wrong? I actually think doing a bible study can be a positive thing under the right circumstances. If the bible study group allowed you to use critical thinking skills and not limit things to just a few bible verses it really does not support Christian doctrines. As a young man I read the King James Bible from cover to cover. I'm really glad that I did because it pointed out the inconsistencies in the bible. It's amazing how few Christians have thoroughly read their own bible and it's surprising how many atheists have read it.

LEPeff comments on Jan 25, 2018:
The church that I was forced to attend as a child found most thoughts, not actions but thoughts sinful. Looking back I understand why that church frowned on thinking. It did not have a lot of members who were good at thinking. As a younger adult I studied Judaism. I have committee abominable acts that have included eating shell fish, cheese burgers and pork. I've even lit a fire on a Saturday morning. I must admit that none of the religions I've had close involvement will have prohibited coffee.

LEPeff comments on Jan 24, 2018:
I'm an atheist because all of the evidence that I've been able to find shows that science is the best way to find answers. If facts pop up that prove the existence of God or gods, then I will change my mind. Faith is believing in something in spite of the evidence. Rationality is changing your beliefs based on the evidence you have.

The religious activists on the rise inside Trump's health department - POLITICO
LEPeff comments on Jan 24, 2018:
I'm not a fan of either Trump or the religious right. That pairing is a deal with the devil, but purely for political expediency. Mr. 2 Corinthians does not share the religious right's moral values and I can't understand how why the "moral majority" can support the p---y grabber and chief.

It's hard to be isolated, but it is worse to be lonely when you're in the middle of a crowd.
I’m sure this has been covered in depth , so pardon the repetition.

Hello, I'm new here and just wanted to meet people.
LEPeff comments on Jan 22, 2018:
Hi Beasley. I just read your profile and you sound cool. I'm also an atheist and conservative. I'm more of a libritarian than a republican. I think that people should have the freedom to do what ever they want so long as they do not harm anyone else. What music do you like?
What moral code do you follow now that you are non-religious?
LEPeff comments on Jan 22, 2018:
I have not been religious for most of my life and most of the religious involvement I have had was due to coercion. I don't buy the argument that morality comes from religion. I have read the entire King James Bible. The concepts of slavery, genocide, rape, child murder, and incest are all supported in the bible. The problem with religion is that people use it to justify what ever antisocial activity that they want to commit.
