Smithereens.
LenHazell53 comments on Aug 25, 2018:
in Irish Gaelic -ín pronounced een is an indicator of a diminutive form so eens probably means small piece of the preceding A Smyther in Gaelic is also a word for a small piece, but in middle English is metal worker, it is a fair guess then to say Smithereens means either smallest of small pieces, or the tiny bits of metal chipped away while metal working at a forge.

Why do people think this makes people feel better? They don't, they do it to make themselves feel better, they imagine that by saying crap like that they are "doing something", they are being missionary and spreading the word and love of gawd by being an apologist for actions that were he (gawd) real would be acts of inexcusable cruelty, they would rather try and explain away than admit the truth that he is imaginary. Rely on the true love and comfort of family and friends and move forward knowing this is not the end of your life and the joy of family you can still experience. My daughter lost her first child too, but now she has given me four beautiful grandchildren who the whole family love unconditionally. Comfort is in the future not the past. Your anger does you credit, now use it to strong and carry on. :)

Who likes anime movies?
LenHazell53 comments on Aug 24, 2018:
Slightly off topic but the first Anime I saw was a boy and was a B+W series called "Marine Boy", apparently it did badly in Japan and only 16 episodes were ever shown there, but the BBC commissioned an additional 60 episodes in colour that were only ever shown in the UK and other English speaking countries. It was one of the first shows to be commissioned in colour by the Beeb for the upcoming legalization of colour TV in 1967.

LenHazell53 comments on Aug 23, 2018:
Saying who likes anime movie is like saying who likes live action movies, anime is a form of film making covering every genre some is good, some is appalling, some are delightful, some are pornographic. Having said that I do like many anime movies and series, especially sci fi and horror, though one of my all time favourites is "Colorful", the story of a spirit sent back to earth for a second chance at life, it is both disturbing and beautiful.

Yup the great logic of Christianity is that God put people in a garden and ordered them not to eat a fruit he knew they would eat since he is omniscient, then punished them for falling for his entrapment. Then he waits three thousand years of letting everyone go to hell for the sins of their first ancestors before turning himself in to a human version of himself, so he can go to earth and sacrifice himself, to himself, so he can forgive everyone else for what their great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandma did after he tricked her in to it. However having done all that he adds the codicil that even if he never gives any evidence of his own existence and in fact gives lots of evidence of his not existing, if people don't swear life long fidelity to him, obedience and give him 10% of their money, they all get to still go to Hell and burn forever, rather than go to heaven and spend eternity praising him for not burning them for doing what he knew they would do in the first place until he interfered. *Grown up people* believe this shit is proof of an all wise and all merciful being who created everything and tortures people because he loves them, and that is just peachy.

Why are so many people pleased at other people's misfortune?
LenHazell53 comments on Aug 15, 2018:
There is a strong and inherent need in people for justice, however not objective justice or real justice in any sense, a subjective personal justice, a sense of balance and fairness that no one else if having a better deal than you. If I lack X in my life and you have X in abundance, I envy you and feel it is an unfair situation, if you therefore suffer from something unpleasant happening to you, that has not happened to me, at a subconscious level I feel the balance has been redressed and that life is fair and my lack of X will be consequently redressed by natural justice at some point as your abundance of X has been. This leads to the extrapolated belief that if something bad happens to someone for no readily apparent reason it is deserved punishment for some past crime or injustice or punishment for something they will do in the future. It is childish superstitious thinking with no basis in reality but fulfils a primal urge for life to be fair and for no one to have gotten the better of you.

I STILL have cancer and it is getting worse, probably because even when I stopped seeing the doctor I still kept taking my medicine because my faith in god is not total. I stopped seeing the doctor, I stopped taking my meds, I pray every day, I really believe god will cure his good and faithful servant... I... I ...oh He had cancer, and though he had great faith, the Lord gathered him unto himself, we therefore must have faith that the Lord knows what he is doing.

This is a great one for confusing creationists me : How does an all knowing PERFECT GOD make a defective person and allow evil? Theist: God has given us the gift of free will, we are created perfect but can choose to do evil? Me : which makes us imperfect? Theist: Of course. Me : So Someone with evil in their heart is potentially evil and so cannot be perfect correct? Theist: That's right (smug smile) Me : Where did Evil come from? Theist: What? Me: If everything was created by God and comes from god where did evil come from. Theist: Tut, evil did not COME from anywhere it is a choice made by people. Me: So what makes Evil evil? Theist: If a thing or action goes against god or his teachings it is evil Me : I see so how did we know? Theist: What? Me: how did we know what was against the will of god? Theist: SIGH it's in the bible Me: So Adam and Eve had a bible? Theist: No of course not they talked to god directly and he told them what not to do. Me: So he explained evil to them? Theist: Yes Me: So God is potentially evil then? Thesit; What? Me: If he could explain it, he must have been able to understand it, so therefore he was potentially capable of doing it, which means he had evil in his heart and so was potentially evil. Theist: NO, god is perfect, not evil at all, pure good. Me: But they broke his rules and he got pissed at them, that's in the bible Theist: NO, yes, no hang on, that was the devil, in the form of a snake, he tempted them. Me; Who made the snake? Theist: God did Me: And the snake was evil? Theist: yes Me: So god made the snake who is the devil who is the epitome of Evil, the personification of evil, but god is totally good? Theist: erm...... Me: How? Theist: God works in mysterious ways, god's ways are not our ways, you're reading it out of context, FECK OFF heathen!! I ask you, how in this day and age do educated, mature adult people still believe this blatant crap!

LenHazell53 comments on Aug 12, 2018:
Behold the Man by Michael Moorcock tells the story of a fundamentalist Christian who travels back in time to meet Jesus, finds him unsatisfactory and too Jewish, so kills him and takes his place creating "proper" Christianity as God wants it to be. Even going so far as to have himself crucified. In the mean time the real Jesus has recovered from his injuries and and amnesia and finds himself the object of adoration and a messiahship he finds blasphemous, so runs away. This novel is a masterpiece of allegorical fiction about just how people become obcessed with their own idea of how religion should be, having no respect for the the truth or of the origin. There was an attempt to make a TV Twilight Zone episode of the story, but it was blocked until they changed the lead from Jesus to Elvis Presley. (the writing credit goes to a young George R.R. Martin and is called “The Once and Future King,” but is clearly a rewrite post dating Moorecock by 17 years.)

Is there a word that says one is anti "religion" not antithiest?
LenHazell53 comments on Aug 10, 2018:
I am assuming the word would be something like contraekklesia being in opposition to religion or churches Come to think of it Iconoclast probably fits the bill nicely. An Omnipotences (used as a proper noun) probably fits for your second query
Belt of Venus.

My best friend once had a student write an essay on Conrad's Heart of Darkness comparing it to the 1998 film "Armageddon" because the student could not tell the difference between that and "Apocalypse Now" so this this kind of muddle is no surprise to me.

The only good thing about season 2 of space 1999 was the theme tune, they wrecked it, but since the series was a product of ITC interfering with the Gerry Anderson studios organisation in the first place it is understandable. Truth of the matter is that Space 1999 was originally going to be a sequel to the fantastic 1970's show U.F.O. one of the most definitive pieces of Sci-Fi to come out of the UK ever, highly influential and powerfully written (if you have not seen it, do so) U.F.O. 1999 was supposed to take place 20 years after the initial series, set entirely on Moonbase one from the original show, now Earths first line of defense against the savage human harvesting aliens. Armed with a fleet of Eagle transporters and Hawk fighter/interceptors the series would have been great. However the Italian co producers of the project and ITC entertainment wanted to cash in on the almost guaranteed upcoming hits Star Trek TMP and Star Wars and so wanted a space odyssey instead. The whole program was quickly reworked and Mission Impossible stars Martin Landau & Barbara Bain brought in to appeal to the American market, the Hawk fighters were dropped (appearing in only one episode) the whole thing became anti-nuclear apocalyptic moralising. Though moderately successful, it on the whole bombed and ITC dropped their Italian partners, brought in some American crew who had worked on Star Trek and dropped Barry Morse as Victor Bergman perhaps the most popular character in the show replacing him with Catherina von Schell (aka Catherine Schell) as cliche shape changing alien Maya, but other wise just reprising her role from Moon Zero 2. It went down as well as Liberace on an oil rig, what people loved about the show was edited out, what they hated was bulled up and more added. Blake's 7 on the other hand was something else. Just as Doctor Who was supposed to be originally titled Doctor who? the BBC graphics department who charged by the character, left out the apostrophe turning the opening graphic in to Blakes7 to save money, the show was Launched to pacify ravenous Doctor Who fans, calm down Terry Nation (who was fighting for rights to the Daleks with the BBC) and go up against Space 1999. Nation in typical fashion decided to completely reverse Star Trek and basically do Space Pirates on a stolen ship. In this Universe the Federation are the bad guys, the rebels are useless, the eponymous hero was written out after series one, the main villain is a bitch and the hero is a thieving murderous bastard. The sheer chemistry between Paul Darrow as Avon and Catherine Pierce as Servalan with comic relief from Michael Keating as Vila drove the show from season to season, a series of vocal performances from Peter Tuddenham gave every computer in...

Whole new meaning in a modern context
Watching this and remembering how much I loved their "horror" movies as a kid.

Chick Young: What's the matter? Larry Talbot: I know you'll think I'm crazy, but... in a half-an-hour the moon will rise and I'll turn into a wolf. Wilbur Grey: You and 20 million other guys! great exchange. I will admit that Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was the first Horror film I ever saw as a boy, with Boris Karloff as Jekyll and Hyde and he scared the living B'jesus out of me.
