What is a horror movie that you watched when you were a kid that totally destroyed you?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 26, 2018:
Witch finder General 1968 Possibly the most effective and disturbing horror film ever made, the Masterpiece of the tragically short career of Michael Reeves and the joint best performance ever by Vincent Price equaled only by his performance in Dragonwyck. The film haunted me for years, especially its utterly devastating ending.

LenHazell53 comments on Jun 25, 2018:
Nope, editing would only legitimise the filth. They should be confronted with the evil they are tacitly supporting, and made to face the consequences of affiliating themselves with the disgraceful and frankly excremental doctrines of their chosen "Club House" or given the choice of disassociating themselves. They have gotten away with this ... The bible says... but not all Christians believe The Quran says... but not all Muslims believe The Torah says... but most Jews most certainly do not believe ...CRAP for too long, you venerate the book, you ARE responsible for the doctrines espoused, you hold up a turd and call it scripture, don't be surprised when people tell you you stink of shit. When you want something controversial done that might harm your reputation you do the following PRODUCE a problem (real or fictitious it does not matter) PROVOKE a (knee Jerk) reaction (out of anger or preferably Fear) PROVIDE a solution (which of course was your actual original intent all along) It is a variation on oneupmanship, having your potential opponent do your dirty work for you and let them think it was their idea and you are just doing your job. Ignorance, fear and panic are the tools of the despot, the tyrant does not oppress unless he is asked to do do it, the trick is to make oppression seem like the preferable option. The last witch trail in the UK was in 1954, witchcraft only ceased to be illegal in the USA in 1973 and in Australia it was repealed as a crime to tell fortunes in 1979. Islam still condemns witches and magic users in Saudi Arabia you can still be executed for it, in India it is the same as Hinduism also condemns witches, there are five other countries Christian and otherwise were witchcraft is a capital offence, In Romania it is a taxable and licensable occupation, Iran has laws forbidding witches from interfering in government and politics, it is not a capital offence but you can be imprisoned for it, it is illegal in almost every African country to be a witch and in the Central African republic flying a broomstick in a designated commercial airspace is an offence for which you can be imprisoned. Most Christian church denominations still acknowledge practising witchcraft as a forbidden activity, tantamount to apostasy and in many including Catholicism and Mormonism with be considered grounds for excommunication. The Torah acknowledges the existence of witches and forbids their presence in Hebrew communities. Other capital scriptural offence still proliferate all over the world, mostly to do with adultery, homosexuality and Blasphemy.

I don't feel guilty about the fact that five or 10 generations ago these people were slaves. It's just a fact of life, like the kid who gets infantile paralysis and has to wear braces so he can't play football with the rest of us. There's no doubt that 10 percent of the population is black, or colored, or whatever they want to call themselves; they certainly aren't Caucasian. I've directed two pictures and I gave the blacks their proper position. I had a black slave in The Alamo *John On Native Americans* I don’t feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them, Our so-called stealing of this country from them was just a matter of survival. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.

LenHazell53 comments on Jun 14, 2018:
I had a good friend, we knew one another and worked together for 30 years, he died at the age of 52 under sad circumstance in a foreign country under circumstance I found pathetic taken to as a means of combatting loneliness and against my advice. Friendship is over rated, especially in an age where being someone's friend is measured by how much you will allow them to put on you, while expecting nothing at all back. Most friendships I know are the user and the used, I don't use people and I will not be used, I have more self respect. I have a lot of acquaintances we chat, share a drink, even bond a little, but I get no closer than that. I will do anyone a favour once, if when I ask a favour back they say no, then I am unavailable the next time too, even if I am not. Friendship among children is easy, friendship among young people is often a cause of tension and jealousy, friendship in adults is great but you are lucky if you find only one or two good friends in your whole life and luckier still if they don't shit all over you when something “better” comes along.

LenHazell53 comments on Jun 14, 2018:
The quote is not from any of Nietzsche's philosophical works it is from a letter to his sister, and is an encapsulation of his liking for Buddhist attitudes (though not the ideology) that life is suffering, but when understood suffering can be a source of will, the odd phrasing is because unlike Nietzsche himself his sister still held some Christian religious sensibilities which he chose to respect.

LenHazell53 comments on Jun 14, 2018:
Why does there have to be a reason for everything? Is even asking the question paradoxical?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 14, 2018:
It is a bastardisation of the law of cause and effect. Every effect has a cause and every cause is an effect. However using the word reason as a simile for "cause" can be easily equivocated by confusing the various meaning of "reason". Everything has a cause, but that cause may not necessarily be reasonable or have any reason other than it being the effect of something else.

Like both of them, but was always a Doctor Who fan myself. When it came to space opera's I always found Blake's 7 and Lexx more interesting story wise than either of the above

Jesus the supposed truth 1 Virgin Mother alleged to have been raped by a god 2 Born 4bce and 8ce 3 Family ran away to Egypt, or didn't 4 At twelve years ran away from home, got lost in Jerusalem, found again 5 at about 30 became an itinerant preacher, conjurer, healer and story teller 6 associated with known terrorists pissed off the Romans 7 Preached heresy pissed off the Jews of every denomination 8 Assaulted legitimate business people in the Temple pissed of the secular government 9 Refused to lead a revolution and pissed of some of his own followers 10 Was betrayed by his own people 11 Tried and executed by crucifixion 12 Probably poisoned to spare him pain 13 Buried and body snatched 14 Someone started claiming to be him come back from the dead, but unrecognisable even to twin brother. That's it, and that is stretching it a bit making some supposition, induction and deduction.

I'm something of a fan of version of the anthropic principle based upon the Heisenberg uncertainty principle and Niels Bohr, conception that physical existence is reliant on measurement and observation, therefore physical existence and consciousness are reliant on each other. That which is observed requires an observer in order to be observed and therefore exist, the observer requires an observer in order to exist and observe. Therefore self awareness of being is the root of everything, Awareness is observation Observation is measurement Measurement brings about existence (including time and space) Existence becomes aware The circle is complete. The most efficient way to achieve this is Sentient Life.

My wife worked as a carer for for the elderly and infirm before she was injured, she often commented on how a lot of the elderly (women especially) choose never to marry again after being widowed. Also a large proportion of those in residential homes have never married for various reasons, marriage or partnership it seems is just too much of an intrusion for some people.
