this sort of thinking is known as doctrine of signatures, it has been debunked since the third or fourth century, but holds on because people find patterns in things were they don't exist.

If it where my son in law indirectly accusing my other daughter of being some kind of child molesting pervert for wanting to care for her nephew, he and I would be having some serious words in private, a conversation including such words as, Fucking, idiot, pervert and sledge hammer" This is nothing to do with religion, this is a seriously twisted individual who need putting straight now, before this goes any further.

Oh, they got around that one by announcing a few years ago that it turns out, the priesthood ban on the blacks was in fact NEVER a doctrine at all, it was just a "suggestion" by Brother Brigham, well meaning but misguided, and the fact that almost every other prophet after him up until SWK said it was a doctrine of the church, was just a mistake, and the fact that it took a revelation from God to rescind the ban by revelation was just to ensure it was rescinded were DEFINATELY NOT ass covering bullshit. Apparently all the black brothers and sister get into the CK now, if they have baptisms for the dead done for them and they accept it in the afterlife.   Is it just me or does all this sound just a little bit fucking stupid?
Who is your favorite existentialist philosopher and why?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 8, 2018:

LenHazell53 comments on Jun 7, 2018:
The lead characters played by Simon Pegg in the Cornetto trilogy (and Spaced) are all deluded fantasies of Gary King, the only part of the three films that takes place in the real world is the first half of The World's End, when Gary breaks out of the Asylum and tries to get the gang back together. When Gary is beaten up in the toilets of the pub, he falls back into his fantasy world and things start to go right for him again. Sean of the dead, is his way of making sense of the Zombies, his fellow patients in the asylum, Hot Fuzz is his dream of being a policeman a dream ruined by his bent copper uncle the drug dealer. Bill Nighy appears in all three as a father figure who hates him, Nick Frost is always his best friend, David Bradley is an unintelligible older figure who tries to help but usually makes things worse, Former James Bond actors appear as villains, Martin Freeman always plays sellouts. There are other connections, but the overall feel is of a man trying to make sense of his past, present and future, through a gauze of insanity and disillusionment.

Both Professor Stuart Hall in 1979 and in 2004 by Dr. Laurence Britt wrote articles defining the major points in identifying extreme nationalism and or fascism, just as a thought experiment I took their criteria adapted and applied it to the LDS and to a lesser extent to religion in general 1. An easily identifiable symbol to rally too. 2. Specific terms/ code words or euphemisms exclusive to the group. 3. Powerful and continuing expressions of belonging to a chosen or special race. 4. Praising of a Mythological golden age of your ideology that give rights of rule by dynastic or spiritual heritage to all members and especially to leaders 5. Being included in and party to sacred mysticism denied to less worthy others 6. Physical Body Worship combined with reminders of spiritual unworthiness 7. Disdain for the importance of human rights especially those of outsiders 8. Suppression of the rights of the individual in favour of the group and the greater good 9. Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause  10. The supremacy of the physical and or spiritual power broker 11. Institutionalised sexism  12. A controlled mass media  13. Obsession with internal security and or secrecy  14. Religion and ruling elite tied together  15. Power of corporations protected  16. Power of labour suppressed or eliminated  17. Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts  18. Obsession with crime and punishment  19. Rampant cronyism and corruption  20. A pretence at democracy including Fraudulent elections or sustaining of the leadership  If you accept the above as indicative of a fascist state then the LDS and to a lesser extent all religions are fascist institution.

11 "unanswerable" questions for atheists - answered - YouTube
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 6, 2018:
There are so many religious people making these unanswerable questions for atheists videos and all they are really are an excuse for smug gits to pat one another on the back and say that there is no point looking at the answer video, because the questions are unanswerable. Ray comfort’s banana video is still the best one, half an hour explaining why god made the Banana perfect for man, only to have it explained to him a few days later that the Banana is in fact a cultivated, eugenically created fruit designed by people not god. Every time he appears in public now it is to a chorus of “cough, cough, bananas, cough, cough”

LenHazell53 comments on Jun 6, 2018:
It is odd but when I was young I was a "tele addict" We had three channels, later four and then five, before everything went digital. Every night there was good stuff to watch, interesting documentaries, news and current affairs, drama and films. Today there are 70 channels on freeview, before you start on streaming services, cable and satelite. You know what, there is next to nothing worth watching anymore. I watch Doctor Who, when it is on. I like Big Bang theory I watched the new season of Will and Grace, which was not bad. Everything else I watch is reruns of shows from the 70's and 80's. Of the modern shows, I rarely watch them live because I hate the commercials, so buy them on DVD and watch them later, same with films.

I tend towards thinking that: The flow of time is a illusion.
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 6, 2018:
It is interesting to postulate as a thought problem, that the whole of your personal reality exists as one single complete entity in an utterly different reality and that time is simply the way consciousness makes sense of it, but even if that is the case, **what difference does it make?** From a conscious POV time is real, reality as imparted to our brains through our sensory perception is real (If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? ) Even if this reality is simply a perception of something else, or a hologram or a though in the mind of a higher being, as far as we are concerned time, space, matter, energy and thought are all we have, and determine our state of being.

Is social media ruining peoples ability to connect?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 5, 2018:
Writing a letter had a formal etiquette that was taught in school, likewise using the telephone had rules and customs that had to be learned. Even at first e-mail was treated like a form of postal communication akin to a letter. Then came text-ing and instant messaging and mobile phones that for some reason are longer considered by the younger people as an actual phone but as some form of telepathy that people are supposed to pretend they cannot hear in public. No one teaches you how to behave in communications anymore, simply how to access it. There was a short-lived movement for "Netiquette" but it was simply too much bother for the instant gratification crowd. When being bad mannered on line became the norm, it spilled over in to real life. People actually now say LOL to each other, or BRB instead of excuse me, even air quotes which were bad enough have given way to just saying "Hash Tag" and worst of all, meeting someone's eye, making eye contact, even when talking directly to someone is utterly Taboo and has even been referred to as a form of assault, or an unwanted advance. I enjoy the use of social media, but it is not the template for my life, as seems now to increasingly the case, with so many others people.
You and your kid are at the fair waiting in a long line.

I find these days confronting someone will most likely cause more trouble for you than it does for the offender. I recently told some older guy pushing past a bus queue to get on first, that there was a queue and was told by others in the line I was a bully, complained about and the man was allowed to get on by someone further forward in the queue. A day later the same thing happened and this time I just stood aside to let the person on and was bawled out by a woman behind me for allowing queue jumping. I'm getting taxis from now on.
Is Bill Maher the best (living) atheist comedian that does Intelligent humor?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 5, 2018:
Bill Maher is perhaps better classified as a satirist rather than a comic or comedian; his wit is sometimes sacrificed for the sake of ridicule, humour for criticism and his intellect for a cheap laugh. My problem with him is his inconsistency he wants to be George Carlin, will settle for being Jack Benny but use childish shock when all else fails and bawls like Bernard Manning.

We respect their right to believe so long and so far as it does no harm to others. There is no such thing as hate speech. There is speaking truth And There is speaking lies If people were honest no problem, they would determine truth, by discussion, observation and experimentation and act according But When a Lie is considered true because it is preferable to an inconvenient truth And When truth is called a lie because it does not fit with a current trend of thinking Honesty has lost all meaning When an innocent can be judged guilty, or a guilty person found innocent for the sake of preserving a profitable lie There is no justice, there is only profit. When we lie to our children in school, church and home for the sake of a quiet and monetarily prosperous life, why are we surprised that they grow up with no respect for anything but their own ego, wants and desires. In a world of liars, the dishonest man becomes a necessary evil and the honest man is a dangerous criminal.

LenHazell53 comments on Jun 4, 2018:
Yup most Christians don't realise they are more Paulists than actual Jesus followers. Today in the RC church Paul is revered as a true apostle, but look a little closer and you will find he was reviled by the RC for centuries, and his epistles were only returned to the RC Cannon as a concession to the Marcionites, a rival faction of Christians the Church of Roman was so fearful of, and were so unable to massacre as they did with so many others, that they had to sue for peace and amalgamate with them; though ultimately this did not happen a large number of Marcionites were absorbed in to the mother Church and their teaching whittled away over the next few centuries, until today the few Marcionites still existence are again reviled, but Paul has stayed in the Canon of scripture. Seems the little shit was too useful to be dispensed with entirely when it came to petty rules and making money.

Men see sex as the ultimate physical intimate act (well I do) and the ultimate act of love as mutual commitment, which is why so many of us are scared of it. Sex is important to men as it is the final expression of masculinity according to social norms, though it may not be so to each man individually, either way a great deal of importance is placed on it during our youth and adolescence by our peers second only to physical prowess and the ability to be a protector/provider impressed upon us by our parents. Thus psychologically it has in years gone by shaped our psyche and sense of worth and self identity, so that now in an increasingly genderless society many of us find it hard to know our place, and who or what we are expected to be. Since we are all in the same boat as men, we follow our instinct from childhood to ask our mothers or failing that trusted females. Unfortunately the way things are at the moment most of the females are completely lost too, and so we a society of person knowing very well what we are *not* expected to be, but with very little idea of what **is** expected of us.

Are we heading into a mure puritanical time?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 2, 2018:
-It is an alternate form of "Puritanism" more based on public perception of virtue by public display, it is odd a very left wing form of Puritanism in a very right wing society. You can be simultaneously thought a saint and a sinner, fact are valued except when in conflict with feelings. As a feminist you must abhor the suppression of women, but at the same time you must support the oppression of women when it is seen as racist to speak out against it. As a libertarian you must oppose the suppression of free speech while at the same time demanding the silence of those doing and promoting the same thing for the "wrong" reasons. Those of an alternate sexual orientation must not be persecuted, unless it is done in the name of freedom of religion, then you must persecute in order to support another persecuted group. Make ignorance derisible, but make knowledge dangerous. You begin to see the pattern here? You cannot do right for doing wrong. It is Caligula making his horse a senator and arresting people for not obeying him while claiming that claiming not to understand a senator is in itself treason. Keep the people frightened, keep them fighting one another, and let no one know what is wrong and what is right but make everything illegal and prosecute only when expedient. Vilify those not outraged and castigate those who are outraged, control the language, control the media, control the people until you have a pliant, passive, docile populous of those crying out, "for goodness sake TELL ME WHAT TO THINK!"
I've always had a problem with the story of Abraham.
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 2, 2018:
Abraham is a very spurious character, willing to practice polygamy, willing to abandon his first born child and second wife because of his other wife's jealousy even when his fathering a child by someone else was her idea, willing to kill his son because the voice in his head told him to. Willing lie in the name of god and claim his wife was his sister... twice so if she was raped he would not be killed, he changed his name and hers, he was a megalomaniac with a superiority complex, he is hailed as a patriarch of Judaism but was in fact a Zoroastrian, he claimed to have aged ten years over night when king Nimrod carried out the slaughter of the innocents in order to be saved, but save none of the other thousands of boy children the king slaughtered, and on and on it goes.

Why Are Atheists Generally Smarter Than Religious People? | HuffPost
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 1, 2018:
I believe Atheist are not more intelligent than religious people, religious people deliberately act, or feel obliged to act dumber than atheists in order to show and parade their* faith *in their imaginary friend, imaginary enemy, the flying guys with wings, the red anally fixated guys with pokers and their book of bronze age fairy tales. It is generally more about being socially acceptable than actually being religious. Nine times out of ten once they stop being so farcical it turns out they were pretty much on an average with everyone else intelligence wise.

What is your definition of intelligence?
LenHazell53 comments on May 31, 2018:
The ability to be able to select, retain, cross reference and apply accurate knowledge in a practical and useful manner, thus generating more accurate and useful knowledge whilst garnering tangible results.
Ok, folks - what are the five most influential, or transformative books you've read?

James Bond

Though I favour Dalton as the most faithful rendition, it is a toss up for me between Goldfinger and Live and Let Die for the greatest Bond film ever.
James Bond
LenHazell53 comments on May 31, 2018:
Timothy Dalton was the most faithful to the books, and then again if going by the character as written and appearance as described Daniel Craig would have been a perfect Felix Leiter, but was nothing like Bond.

" atheism, itself, just being another absolute position and sitting in precisely the same place as any religious faith." You seem to be under a severely mistaken view of what it means to be an atheist if you can put the words faith and atheism together in such a sentence. In no way shape or form is atheism anything but the total antithesis of faith.

NOT RELIGIOUS, but something in common among many religions is a great life lesson for all humanity.

Does intelligence lead to atheism?
LenHazell53 comments on May 31, 2018:
Intelligence is simply the ability to gather and apply appropriate knowledge in a critical and practical way. If you have no knowledge, or inaccurate knowledge or decide not to gain certain knowledge for the sake of an abnegation of responsibility and a peaceful life you can be very intelligent and still an utter fool. This is how you can have a brilliant author and physician who writes intelligent and wonderful detective stories, and yet in real life thinks fairies live at the bottom his garden and that his wife can talk to dead people. (Arthur Conan Doyle in case anyone did not get the reference)
How do you transition from being the center of the world, to not?
LenHazell53 comments on May 31, 2018:
I find it is simply the innate ability to face reality. Pragmatism is a great help in dispelling delusions.

As I understand it, in the USA Christianity was forced on the slaves with the promise that suffering in this life was a blessing, and would result in greater rewards in the next, that the chance to be slaves in a Christian country was a blessing since they could hear and accept the gospel and be saved, unlike those left behind in heathen savagery. In short the con of jam tomorrow is worth plain bread today, and plain bread today is better than starvation yesterday. Since those who accepted this shit "prospered", that is were allowed to have children, got feed and were not beaten to death and those who did not died in great pain, a few generations of this lead to a pliant, readily obedient populous accepting the "normality" they were born in to.

Would you rather live 100 years in the future or 100 years in the past? timetravel
LenHazell53 comments on May 31, 2018:
Well given that 100 year in the past would mean being in the run up to world war two and the rise of fascism, McCarthyism and the cold war, neither.

Perhaps, given it exists at all, the god thing finds it easier to see its own faults in others?
This is agnostic.

Can atheist and believers be best friends?
LenHazell53 comments on May 30, 2018:
OF course they can, I am an anti-theist my wife is a druid, I think she is stupid in that respect she thinks I am ignorant, but other than that we have a 27 year marriage, two kids (one is an atheist one is a born again) four grandkids and a plethora of mutual interests. The problems only come when you make your religious/spiritual/ideological beliefs the centre and the whole of your life, which frankly is a waste of 99.9% of your life.

LenHazell53 comments on May 30, 2018:
The believer will probably be treated with more respect and tolerance than a non believer going on to a Christian site.
