LenHazell53 comments on Feb 8, 2023:
Gallinaceous comes from the Latin word gallina which means Chicken, however Gallina literally means Gaulish fowl, in much the same way we call Turkeys by the name of the county Turkey because early trader thought their gobbling sounded like the Turkish language, phoneticians who imported chickens in to Italy thought their clucking sounded like the language of the Gauls (proto-European Gallic French)

Never forget, memories are there to learn from and to guide you into a wiser future. However memories should never be a source of regret, or a source of pain. They are the decisions of the past, your informed decisions of today determine your days and happiness to come. The love you gave was never wasted, it is was and always will be a credit to you, what those you gave it to did with it, was their responsibility not yours.

That sort of thing, it takes all the interest out of metaphysical speculation.” ― Terry Pratchett, Small Gods

Costermonger supposedly British but my friend raised in Tennessee used it in conversation today.
LenHazell53 comments on Feb 6, 2023:
The term literally means seller of costards, a costard being a now extinct type of apple that was large and ribbed and resembled red bell pepper or Capsicum. Monger comes from a combination of the Greek manganon meaning a charmer or persuasive man and the Latin mangonis a dealer in slaves. Also possibly from the Latin verb mango to display In England the word evolved to mean a trader in Fruit and Veg and as @Marionville says below was eventually replaced by Green Grocer (from the Latin grossarius a wholesaler)

MARTINET.
LenHazell53 comments on Feb 6, 2023:
Strangely the name Martinet is derived from the Latin for the small common house-martin (martinus) a very gentle creature. However the English name Martin is derived from the Roman god of war Martis so by an ironic linguistic trick the name of Jean Martinet is both an example of nominative determinism AND an ironic pun on his martial nature, his legacy and his vocation.

Why can't ghosts and god NOT be proven?
LenHazell53 comments on Feb 4, 2023:
Proof for the existence of a god or for a ghost would have to be the same as proof for anything else, testable, repeatable evidence that contributes to the overall body of scientific knowledge. The problem of course is that "God(s)" require faith and faith is the very antithesis of knowledge. Thus according to theology this means that the prerequisite unknowability of a god means he she or it **cannot** be proven, for proof is knowledge and knowledge counters faith. A god who is able to be proven to exist is by definition knowable and so is no longer definable as a god and so MUST be a false god, the ultimate blasphemy. The same therefore would be, presumably the same for any lesser spirit such as the ghost of a deceased person. Once you can prove they exist, they cease to be so. Conclusion... Theology is a steaming pile of horse shit

LenHazell53 comments on Jan 25, 2023:
Woke is an insult It means neither Empathic or educated nor does it mean enlightened. It may at one time have been intended to, but we already had a word for that, it was ***Humanitarianism*** Woke replaces empathy with propaganda, education with radicalization and enlightenment with vengeful fascistic ideology. The humane response to homophobia, sexism and racism, is compassion for the oppressed and justice combined with rehabilitation for the oppressor The woke response is to destroy the lives of the oppressor by treating him or her with open hatred, de-platforming and prejudice, while condemning the oppressed for not being violent and radical enough, resulting in hate begetting hate squared. Where the humanitarian seeks to make lasting change a move to toward the betterment of social attitudes and genuine equality. The woke seek to make a world filled with hollow virtue signaling, short term headline grabbing empty gestures and the popularization of "buzz words", the popularization of revisionist history where facts "problematic facts, are replace with more acceptable "alternate facts" style over substance being portrayed as activism. Martin Luther King was not woke Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas were not woke Quentin Crisp was not woke For simple reasons, they actually achieved things, they changed things and people remember them for their intelligence, honesty and Bravery. Todays "woke" wankers are a disgrace to their legacy.

Fifth being the cardinal number for the number five originates from the proto-Germanic pronunciation of 5 which is *vunv"* (the V coming from the Latin numeral V = 5) with the Germanic V being pronounced fü, hence phonically *fünfte* as opposed to fünf as the ordinal. When this passed orally in to English via Normandy French as the cardinal for Quinc (5) it was pronounced *Funth*, but in time evolved to Fifth, A) simply because it followed Fourth more naturally on the English Anglo Saxon tongue and B) with the Old Saxon *fifto* being the prenorman cardinal 5. Hence Funth+Fifto compressed to Fifth. However the Danegeld areas of the UK and Jute descended population, tended to drop the second F because their cardinal five was Old Norse *fimmti* Hence Fimmti + Funth compressed in pronunciation to Fith Both versions were carried to the new English speaking colonies such as South Africa, Australasia and the United states. "The Prodigal Son" is the archetype USP for the new religion "Christianity" Confession is the only way to cleanse your sufficiently filthy soul, so you MUST have something to confess! You can be as bad, wasteful, selfish and dirty as you like; So long as at the last minute you come crawling back to sky daddy tail between your legs and ask for forgiveness, you are welcome in to Christ's heaven. Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin interpreted this parable as it being a desire of the Christian God for BIG SINS! YHWH does not want to be bothered with penitents confessing and asking forgiveness for piddling little sins, he wants crawling begging sinners pleading for forgiveness for blasphemy, rape, roistering, rioting, murder, torture and wanton cruelty. All manner of debauchery delights the god of the NT. For is there not more joy in heaven for one repentant sinner than for any number of pious people? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_JoE2GioXY

Consumer economies depend on demand outstripping supply, but at a controlled level to facilitate maximum profiteering, when demand outstrips supply to the extent that poverty ensues consumer economies collapse
