HACKNEY.
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 10, 2022:
The borough of Hackeney in London was a horse trading center in the south of England that for more than two centuries lent its name as a brand to signify hard working work horses, this in turn became a synonym for a work horse and hence most of the above uses of the words above. The town of Hackey gained its name from people moving south from the the Viking settlements of King Haakon IV in Scotland and the Isles of Skye. Hackeny means the Ilse of Haca, Haca being a derivative of Haakon, which in turn is a Norwegian name meaning "High Son" from há (high, chosen) and konr (son, descendant, kin).

Lilliana Hasynska nee Gasinskayoy in 1990 moved to London, where she still lives. She gave birth to two sons, moved her parents from Luhansk region closer to her after the fall of the soviet union. The soviet union and later the Russian authorities ran a propaganda campaign in Australia against her for years claiming falsely she was a prostitute, a pornographic actress and a drug dealer, they even publicly stripped her of her Russian citizenship even though she had renounced it in 1980. She is viewed in Russia as an embarrassment, having slipped through the fingers of the USSR so easily and portray her as a fool who ruined her life by fleeing her home and falling in degradation in the corrupt and decadent west. In London today she has escaped all of that since no one here has a clue who she is or was and care even less

H.L. Mencken invented this word for strip-tease artist, 1940, from the Greek ekdyein "to put off one's clothes," for gentlemen to excuse their attending burlesque by claiming to vist their ecdysiast. Which rather messes up the routine in the musical Gypsy where the eponymous character tries to legitimize her art by calling herself an ecdysiast in 1920 two decades before the word existed.

LenHazell53 comments on Dec 3, 2022:
I would have to add that in the last five years or so "woke" or "Woke-ism" has come to describe a particularly extremism version of political correctness, practiced with arrogance and condescension, by pseudo-intellectuals who feel that everything, including facts, biology, science and especially history, should be reinterpreted in a revisionary fashion to fit with there own political outlook, and should be made less *"Problematic"* thus perpetrating the dangerous myth that not only were things always as they are, but that things were always *"as they should be"* Thus we have the BBC making historical programs stating openly that because no where in history does it say Anne Bolynn was NOT black, it is okay to say she was, in spite of all evidence of portraiture to the contrary. Shakespeare being vandalized with pure temerity by authors who find the sixteenth century author out of touch with modern sensibilities and liable to cause offense or who find that pointing out the fact that there were no Chinese, or African, Vikings to be prejudicial history lacking in diversity and so happily override historical fact with modern "representation". But god help anyone who says the reverse might also be, done by the same logic and a white man be cast to play an historical black figure. Feelings over facts Expediency over experience Lies over life This is what "Woke" has come to mean sadly

"You don't HAVE a soul.
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 1, 2022:
From what I have read and studied over the years in most ancient religions a Soul is the life force that animates a living thing, a Spirit is created or grown from thought word and deed over the course of a lifetime and is the part that is supposed to survive death with your personality in tact while the soul moves on to animate another creature. This is why the devil is supposed to want souls and will buy or bargain for them, so he can animate his own creatures on earth. Of course this was all to complex and and pagan for Christianity and so was dumped in favour of simple duality. All a load of bollocks but interesting from an anthropological point of view.

Dick Shawn was perhaps one of the most underrated comic actors of all time. His performance as LSD in the producers is so powerful and memorable that it was left out of the remake, and the stage show as Brookes honestly thought no one could top it. My favourite performance by Dick was one of his latter rolls, in a 1985 episode of "Tales from the Darkside" titled "If the Shoes Fit" here he plays a GOP candidate for governor of an unnamed state, who boasts that he is the consummate showman and cannot loose, because the people see him as one of their own. A sinister Bellhop persuades him to subtly exaggerate his signature look, making his suit, shoes, hat and bow tie larger and more garish because "The Bigger The Better" until in the end he proudly marches out to give his speech dressed as the clown he really is. Dick left us April 1987 at the age of 63

LenHazell53 comments on Nov 30, 2022:
Antonym of embosom, to keep a confidence. Bosom was originally a euphemism for Penis evolving from the Proto Indo European root *bhou- (s)* meaning *that which swells* and so was seen as the seat of life, by the phallocentric ancient religions and by extension the seat of emotion. In time the Greek idea that the seat of emotion and soul was the heart, the Bhosom moved upward a few inches and became the chest and of course in time female breasts. The word turns up in German bōsmaz Old French bosm, Saxon bosom, Middle Dutch boesem, and else were in Europe and Scandinavia boezem, buosam, and Busen always meaning chest or breast Hence a Bosom buddy or bosom friend was an early term for a betrothed but in time for any close friend. We are lucky that when the western idea of the seat of emotion and the soul became the head and the brain our bosom did not become our heads

One slight correction Corporal punishment was only banned in British STATE schools in 1986, private schools are still allowed to use it, if the parents approve, however if the parent (usually the father) does not sign a waiver in most cases the child will not be allowed a place at such a school or will instead be made to do "Hard Labour" such as digging, tree felling of wall building in its place. In 2008 physical punishment by pain was banned in all educational establishments in Scotland and Wales but in England was only banned in the form of beating, pain by exercise, labour or public shaming or humiliation is still permissible. In many of the "great schools" having the children "discipline" one another unofficially is encouraged as a matter of school or house pride The British upper classes still hold to the old maxim "Bend a child double to give them an upright character"

Interestingly Josephus does write quite extensively, as do several other Roman and Jewish historians, about John the Baptist and his attempted political overthrow of Herod Antipas because of his adultery with his sister in law and half sister Herodias wife of Herod Archelaus, (NOT Philip as stated in the Gospels), for which he had divorced his first wife Phasaelis, the daughter of King Aretas IV of Nabatea, which almost lead to war, had not the Romans stepped in to calm things with the threat of over whelming force. In none of these accounts is there any mention of John claiming to be the Herald of the Messiah, or of Jesus of Nazareth, because Herod's main reason for executing John the B was for blasphemy for declaring himself the promised Messiah of the Jews. After the martyrdom of John his church continued for many years, before splintering, but even today a small faction of Mandaean Christian still still exist in Iraq worshiping John as the true christ and decrying Jesus as the great usurper.

We had a similar abominable holiday in the UK. Most people alive today have no idea it ever existed Between 1902 and 1958 24th May (Queen Victoria's Birthday) was a public holiday and feast day known as EMPIRE DAY. A day to celebrate all the "accomplishments" and "Glories" of the British Empire, such as Slavery, genocide, colonization, exploitation, institutional racial prejudice and military domination. Empire Day celebrated the Empire from it's inception as the private police force of the East India Company's 3 way trade in opium for spices, spices for slaves and slaves for sugar, to its exploitation of five eighth of the world for profit in jolly old England. Empire day was used as propaganda during both world wars, promoting Britain as Gods Own County, the promised land of milk and honey, where the people were the new chosen people, superior to all foreigners who were of course dirty and savages. However by the 1950s rationing, out of control national debt and half a century of the upper classes treating the "Tommy" as worse than the horse shit and smog that poisoned their street, Empire Day began to lose its appeal in the face of the rampant reality that the "glorious" empire had been sold off to the highest bidders in order to be rid of the expenses it now incurred as the resources dried up. It was quietly transformed in to "British Commonwealth Day" in 1959, Officially it is "Commonwealth Day is an opportunity to promote the strong unity, diversity, and shared values of the Commonwealth family and is celebrated by people across the world – in Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe, and the Pacific" In reality it is a holiday that while it still exists and is "celebrated" on the second Monday in March every year, no one outside the Royal family acknowledges or even knows about and if they do it is as an embarrassing and cringe-worthy historical hold over.

He glared at me and said "I want an accurate count, not a guess arrived at by a trick!" The above contention does not mean there is not a most efficient way of doing things or of getting to the right answer more quickly. Worth baring in mind that sometimes other peoples "way of thinking" is pure obstinate ill informed time wasting idiocy.

During the 1960 and 70 the BBC (in its wisdom) decided comedy writers would have a guide book on what is and is not acceptable on the Beeb. One section of the book was on "Acceptable swear words" and euphemisms for swearing. A committee of writers were consulted, including Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, Galton and Simpson, Muir and Norden and Kenneth Horne under the leadership of BBC supremo Lord John Reith. Most of the writers realised that they were going to get nowhere and so began taking the piss. Among the more memorable words they managed to smuggle in to the BBC acceptable swear words catalog were **Naff** as a substitute for fuck, naff was a word from Polari, the secret language of the London gay scene, it actually meant unfuckable **Berk** for a foolish person actually cockney rhyming slang, Berkshire hunt ... C^nt **Numpty** a fool derived from the old British Numps a testicle especially when cold in winter **Plonker** again an idiot but actually being British street slang for a cuckold **Ginger** an effete man cockney rhyming slang Ginger Beer Queer a homosexual **Clunge **bottom or backside, actually medieval British for a female genitals **Old Bag** an unpleasant woman, actually from Baggage a Victorian word for prostitute **Old Mugger** an unpleasant old man, alternate to bastard. Actually Bugger from Buggery mispronounced meaning an aged sodomite **Jolly Hockey sticks** an alternate to Bloody Hell, actually old English movie slang H.E. double hockey sticks Hell (considered a very VERY bad swear word in the UK up until the late 1970) **Toot-Toot** or **Patty** female genitals **Tiddler** or **Todger **male genital shaft *Todger* was actually revenge spoonerism created in the 1980s by Scots comedian Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) after being publicly derided by comedian Ted Rogers, Coltrane created an unfunny English comic character called *Red Todgers*, playing on the Scottish slang for a penis *Tadger*

LenHazell53 comments on Nov 21, 2022:
Just for context it should be noted that Yoshiro Mori was only ever prime minister of Japan by default and was in office for less that a year. During that time his approval ratings never got above single digits and he was so gaffe prone he was known as Japan's own Prince Phillip. When his predecessor died of a stroke while in office his entire cabinet resigned in a traditional sign of respect, except for Yoshiro Mori who to everyone's horror immediately put his name forward as replacement and so was elected unopposed on a technicality. During a farmers strike he was considered so dishonorable that farm union delegates turned their back on him and walked inside. Yoshiro Mori responded to this not with an apology, but by lowering his rolls royce window and bawling after them "What's the matter with you all? You Think I have AIDS?" On another occasion he announced he would not be in the Diet (Japanese Parliament) as he had an important diplomatic meeting, but was later photographed with a notorious Yakuza Boss (Japanese Mafia) drunk out of his mind in an Osaka dive bar. The final nail in his political coffin came when in In February 2001, the US submarine USS Greeneville accidentally hit and sank the Japanese fishing ship Ehime Maru during an emergency surface drill resulting in nine dead students and teachers. Mori could not be found to be informed as it turned out he had sneaked out to play a round of golf. When informed of the tragedy, he complained that such news was going to ruin his concentration for the rest of the game and probably cause him to lose. He none the less continued his play for the final holes, before addressing the matter at hand. He was subsequently forced to resign as Prime Minister. He is now 85 years old and regularly makes the Japanese news for his ill informed opinions, gaffes and idiotic publicity stunts. He is still a special envoy to Russia, reportedly because President Putin finds him "amusing" and will not talk to anyone else.

I had a radiogram almost exactly like this ( a Fidelity), I passed it on to my eldest for there first house. It had a fantastic bass tone, with a long, short and medium wave radio and could still play 78 rpm records as well as 45s and LPs. Beautiful piece of furniture.
I am looking for a good VPN + email provider.
LenHazell53 comments on Nov 18, 2022:
Personally I use proton mail but run it through the linux compatible Opera Browser that has it's own built in free VPN which satisfies all my needs, but can be upgraded for a nominal fee for extra features and security.

She made a habit of being the third wife She was the third wife of Charlie Chaplin, the third wife of Burgess Meredith and finally the third wife and widow of Erich Maria Remarque (author of all quiet on the western front) Her first marriage was to lumber tycoon Edgar James, but the marriage was invalidated when it was discovered she was only 17 at the time, so not only was she third wife three time but had three legitimate husbands.

SHe has not been lucky health wise, she was diagnosed with genetically inherited breast cancer in the early 2000's and underwent a double mastectomy and now MS, and yet has still made a career and name for herself as an actress and comedian. She began her career at 8 months old and has worked consistently her entire life so far She is terrific.
Here is an Irish thought.
LenHazell53 comments on Nov 15, 2022:
My favourite Irish maxims "where ever it is you are going, I wouldn't start from here if I were you" "You'll have to forgive yer man there, he's drunk" and "Well look here, it's yourself."
All praise to the citizens of Linlithgow, Scotland who call themselves "Black Bitches".

Seems they have already got google on side If you type the name and address of the Tavern it comes back "Do you mean the Black *Batch*" If you go to the location on google maps too, it pops up as The Black Batch, in spite of the true name being all over the linked photo. So it seems it is not the word Black that is objectionable to these snowflakes but the legitimate word for a female dog

I have a god daughter named Lianne. Her parents were not sure of which spelling to use of the name Lianne, Lee-anne, Leighan or Leanne, but settled on the above one as being the prettiest. She is almost forty now lol.

Absolutely bloody stupidity. A black bitch is a female dog with dark fur it is a simple fact of nature. Reading racism and sexism in to the words, says more about the mental state of the accuser than it does about the words. Scotland also has the legend of Black Shuck, similar to the Irish Banshee Shuck a ghostly shadow dog that howls outside of a house where a death is imminent. She is affectionately known as the black bitch. https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/business/black-bitch-pub-in-west-lothian-will-be-renamed-the-willow-tree-despite-protests-from-angry-locals-3916505

Only for a given value of progress Ask a politician, a priest, a sociologist, an anthropologist, a philosopher and an economist for a definition of progress and you would barely think they were speaking the same language. FLAIL.
LenHazell53 comments on Nov 14, 2022:
Also a Flail (noun) a device for threshing grain made up of two hinged poles, later turned in to a military weapon, similar to the Japanese Nunchuck which itself was a militarization of the Taiwanese word for a grain Flail, the neng-cak and the middle eastern word Scurge meaning flail.
Why do atheists hate God?
LenHazell53 comments on Nov 14, 2022:
Same reason I hate Santa Clause and the bogeyman, they were stupid fantasy stories (AKA Lies) told to me by adults who should have known better, to emotionally manipulate me as a helpless child in order to make their own pathetic lives easier.
And so it is with the USA, Russian & Ukrainian governments.

LenHazell53 comments on Nov 12, 2022:
The extraordinary thing is that in the US and the UK the election laws and the mental health acts more or less abolishing the hospitalization of mentally ill people in asylums, have resulted in a situation where people are "Mentally incapable" can be barred from voting if it is decided by medical professionals that they are not capable of making a rational decision in their own best interests, those same people DO have the inalienable right to run for office and serve at any level up to and including head of state, unless convicted as *criminally* insane. IN other words you can become president but cannot actually vote for yourself. How many presidents were mentally ill? Eighteen (49%) Presidents met criteria suggesting psychiatric disorder: depression (24%), anxiety (8%), bipolar disorder (8%), and alcohol abuse/dependence (8%) were the most common. In 10 instances (27%), a disorder was evident during presidential office, which in most cases probably impaired job performance. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16462555/
Yeah, thats the ticket.
