Harvard has remains of nearly 7,000 Native Americans and enslaved black people in museum collection
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 8, 2022:
All museums are full of corpses, for some reason after a certain amount of time, human remains cease to be human and become artifacts. Another thing museums are full of is shit, literally.. they call them coprolite, fossilized faeces. So when you ask museums why they filled with grave robbed bodies, stolen artifacts, pillaged from all over the world and other people's stolen dignity, don't be surprised if they only want to talk coprolite

LenHazell53 comments on Jun 8, 2022:
Possibly a pun on Platoon, a body of active fighting men Poltro or very similar in several European languages means bed or sleeping couch, therefore a poltroon is one who would be rather too fond of sleeping "Out of bed, you lazy layabouts, your in a platoon not a poltroon" Laziness over time giving its meaning over to cowardice, especially when PTSD was not understood.

ARQUEBUS.
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 8, 2022:
Though there is a common consensus that the word comes from the medieval Dutch Harkbuse meaning a hooked cannon, ie. a portable cannon with a steadying hook, that could be attached to a wall, there is some credence given to the theory that Arquebus may originally have been a hybrid Greek/Latin word ( like Television) with the Greek Arkos "To defend" (hence Archer) being paired with the Latin Bus "For the purpose of" hence Arquebus "For the purpose of defense"
Sounds obvious to me...

But an old phrase told "Promises are meant to be broken" why?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 6, 2022:
The expression is "Promises are made to be broken" It comes from the title of a 19th century poem “Promises are like pie-crust – Made to be broken” By feminist Christina Rossetti (sister of painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti) The poem is a plea from one lover to another to not make promises in case they cannot be kept for reasons unknown or not yet revealed, but rather to commit to the moment and the future together, without thought for the past or past secrets and sins.

In Rhetoric a tautology is the trick of answering the question with the question in another form Descartes' ontological argument goes as follows: (1) Our idea of God is of a perfect being, (2) it is more perfect to exist than not to exist, (3) therefore, God must exist. Kant argued that If the proposition is analytic, as the ontological argument takes it to be, then the statement would be true only because of the meaning given to the words. Kant claims that this is merely a ***tautology*** and cannot say anything about reality In other words if God is defined as a perfect being then premise one is simply saying (1) If our idea of a perfect being is a perfect being we have tautology number 1 if existence is defined as a prerequisite of perfection the premise two states (2) That which exists is perfect, that which does not is not and we have tautology number 2 Premise three therefore states (3) The perfect being must be perfect or it would not exist Tautology number three Giving us the conversation (Q) Logically does a perfect god exists (A) A perfect God exists, because it is logical (given accepted theological values for the words god and perfect )

Whereas most people, including George Bernard shaw in his magnificent "Saint Joan" contended Joan was burned for war crimes, treason or her role in the coronation of Charles VII of France, this is incorrect. Most history books state she was executed for heresy, which is technically true but not entirely accurate. Her actual crime and the excuse for her sentence to be executed by immolation (burning alive), a punishment reserved for only the worst of heretics, rather than strangulation and then public burning, the church sanctioned punishment for common heresy, was... *Cross Dressing* "an abomination against the will of the Lord and the Lore of the holy Bible." ***Deuteronomy 22:5 5 A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this.*** Joan refused to dress in female attire for the whole of her imprisonment and trial, and regardless of the many heroic pictures of her at the stake in a flowing gown, she was burned wearing her uniform Riding Britches, boots and shirt.

Other women’s hairdresser unions have announced similar bans across the country as the emboldened old farts, threaten their way back to "Traditional" values, by arresting and imprisoning beauticians and hairdressers. However just to demonstrate "equality" men too are under fire in Mashhad for their grooming choices. LenHazell53 comments on May 28, 2022:
Moggy or Moggie is a northern term for a cat in the same way that a "Tom" is a slang term for a cat. In Victorian England a Tommy Atkins was a common or garden man (later a soldier, like Jack Tar for a Sailor), like wise a Maggie May was a common woman or a prostitute. Like wise among pedigree breeders a Queen Cat was a female cat and and Sire Cat was a male cat, this all seemed too posh for common street cats, so a male became a "Tom" (also a slang term for a man who solicits a prostitute's services) and a Female "Maggie" as in their human equivalents. Over time Tomcat became the official term for a male cat and "Oop North" a Maggie or Moggie became the name for any street cat, especially those who howled in the night for a mate.

I know a lot of people say Americanisms don't matter this day and age, but as a wise man once said "There is no such thing as American English, there is English and there are spelling mistakes" The Latin root honōrifica is spelled with a Macron ō to elongate the sound and so when translated in to English is ALWAYS translated as ou except (as usual) in the US because they tend to spell phonetically and misprounce the word as 'on-or instead of the favoured original french via Latin pronunciation 'On-urh Sadly it seems in this one case I have been mistaken and the OED on line now accepts the US spelling as correct too 😥

The west generally judges a nation's international standing in light of its enemies. Putin is monster, always has been, a dictator in all but official proclamation. However had China attacked Russia, instead of Russia attacking Ukraine, the billions of dollars being funneled in to Ukraine would instead be going in to the coffers of avuncular Uncle Vlad, who would in the media of the west be undergoing a massive character make over. The West will ALWAYS pretended that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend", until (again as in the school yard) that friend asks you to actually step in and fight along side of them, at which point the west will assure them "Hey I'll hold your coat, I'll lend you my knuckleduster, but that is where I draw the line old bean. Fight your own battles!" All capitalist cultures need a boogie man, a scapegoat on which to blame all the shit visited on "The People" by their corruption and pocket lining. It was the USSR, then it was the Terrorist Muslims, then it was the Iraqis, then immigrant terrorist Muslims, then Immigrants generally, then the LEFT, the woke Left, Socialists, then the far right (bit close to home that one) and so finally back round full circle to the Russians again (Nostalgia value) I sometimes wonder if at this time there is a little nominative determinism going on, if you wanted to create an eastern warlord what is a better name that mixing up the names of the only two eastern block villains most people in the west have heard of Dracula (***Vlad***islaus Tepes) and Grigori ilitch Ras***putin***, Alucard Mc Satan-Monk might have been a little too on the nose, so why not just ***Vlad Putin***

A frighteningly large minority of conformists who are too frightened to think for themselves, and would rather self abnegate all responsibility for their own lives to the one with the loudest voice. Such people's freedom can be bought for the price of the promise to give them someone to blame and oppress, a set of unbreakable rules and the right to act on their base instincts. For such freedoms this sort of people people will follow a charismatic war monger to hell and thank him or her for the privilege. If you hear someone in authority telling you "If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" "Trust your leaders, they know what is best for you" "Might makes right" "The strong must lead, it is the natural order of things" "individuality is weakness conformity is strength" "Strength Through Unity, Unity Through Faith" "The "Will of The People" must prevail over the will of any number of people" "One Party, one country, one law and order will follow" "Freedom is not free, it must be imposed, and protected by force and subterfuge" "Truth is subjective" "Do not deliberately over educate yourself it will make you unhappy" "Know your place and be content with it." and other such sound bites, you are already lost.

Okay, let's REALLY get to know each other.

Irony impaired or just hard of thinking?
So anyway, this.

Wow I wonder why that was, probably something to do with high vaccination areas having less gun laws?

Pyramids and things we don't know
LenHazell53 comments on May 18, 2022:
Is it a coincidence? Yes If it were actually true, which it is not. The Apex of the great Pyramid of Giza is on the line of latitude 29.9791750 N, Not 29.9792458 N meaning the speed of light equivelent is somewhere around the bottom left hand corner of the pyramid. Any latitude between 29.980150 and 29.978150 passes through the structure
Not the desired effect

That is exactly why I write very graphic and horrific horror stories, what I would never be able to do in real life because I am not a monster, I can use as the basis for monsters and their actions I create without my ethical bias. It is very cathartic.
Hello heathens! 😆 have you ever read this book?
LenHazell53 comments on May 18, 2022:
Yes it is as damn near perfect as literature can get. (Imho)
Hello heathens 🤪 I wanna ask something 😄 "Are you happy?" 😊
LenHazell53 comments on May 18, 2022:
Depends how you define happy, I'd say I am content with ***my*** life but unhappy with life as a whole, mainly because the world is a very, very silly place (note I say world, not the planet, the planet would be fine if people would stop massing it up)
