@redbai It is a natural state, all be it one that be overcome with reason and compassion. There have been countless studies done, by psychologist, child psychologist, naturalist, anthropologists , sociologists and zoologists. It is not even limited to humans, such behaviour has been noted in animals, birds, insects and even aquatic life. Philosophers have discussed it for literally hundreds of years, doctrines such as "Might makes right" have sprung from the realisation of the phenomena. Perhaps obtuse was the wrong word choice, I suspect you are more likely being wilfully puerile.

LenHazell53 replies on May 28, 2021:
@AnneWimsey The Holocaust is not an isolated incident, the complete extermination has been tried and has even succeeded on a number of occasions, before and after the Nazi final solution to the "Jewish problem". The means and motivation has always been the same. The actual extermination of the Cathars by the Roman catholic church in the 12th to 14th century, Bosnian ethnic cleansing, Rwandan ethnic cleansing, the Polish Pogroms and attempted extermination of the Boers by the British in the 19th century, the Russian Pogroms of the 20th, Chairman Mao's extermination of the dissidents, 12th century Crusades, the 2nd inquisition, many many others all attempted and committed acts of extermination or extirpation of "lesser" peoples. Whenever a tyrant gains power they can and do designate a scapegoat race and advocate for their total annihilation as being the cause of all their own nations problems. Hitler's destruction of the Jews, gypsies, homosexuals and Jehovah's witness, in the camps is the most famous simply because it was recent and ruthlessly industrialised, but it was neither new nor unique.

@AnneWimsey Sorry but that sounds like special pleading. One group persecuting and hating another group based on an idea of a racial hierarchy is exactly the same. In the case of Americans persecuting blacks and Germans persecuting Jews Both passed segregationist laws, both used ghettoes, both used negative stereotypes and propaganda, both demonised, both encouraged public hatred and fear. Both used prejudice policing techniques and I am damn sure that if the USA had been a dictatorship there would have been concentration camps and there were internment camps on American soil. German BEING a dictatorship had no problem instituting their final solution, which is why so many of the US hate groups want their own Fuhrer, back in the white house in order to better the example

LenHazell53 comments on May 25, 2021:
In the North of England a midden can also be a synonym for toilet. My personal favourite word for a W.C. however is the rather grandiose medieval Garderobe (pronounced guar-de-lowb). Originally a wardrobe, later a small closet containing a seat over a pipe leading to a cesspit or moat.)

@Marionville Fascinating, garderobe is from the german words guard robe, meaning protect clothes, i.e wardrobe. I love it when a word has two etymologies regardez l’eau! (look out for the water) becomes garde below (when emptying a chamber pot), becomes confused with garderobe, warderobe/closet and combine to make Water Closet, W.C. :) thanks for that :)

The more unpleasant unavoidable fact is that sacrifices will be required "our way of life" will have to change. How it changes will depend on how willing and how far people are prepared to bend, because if they will not do it willingly, there will be those who will attempt to force that change upon us along with a return to hellish feudalism.

@SeaGreenEyez I think he maybe giving humanity too much credit, if he thinks public viewing of execution will turn people against it. Public execution was up until the 19th century a massively popular spectator "sport". In the UK at least it was banned not because it was unpopular, but because it was considered too popular, and was likely to encourage revolution, as in France and Russia. North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Somalia still have public execution and they are always well attended and in some cases even participated in.

@altschmerz Paths of Glory I will go along with being a good film, but that was in 1957, before Kubrick started thinking he was "Kubrick" and allowed seasoned professionals like Kirk Douglas to show him how to make a film. 2001 is the product of two enormous narcissist egos (Kubrick and Clarke) and a LOT of money indulging in an orgy of mutual admiration and back patting. Stragelove is not a Kubrick Film it is a Peter Sellers film and like all Sellers helmed films is a mess, an amusing mess, but a mess none the less. Dr. Strangelove is what happens when you give Peter Sellers free reign to do as he pleased and is no better than "Soft Beds and Hard battles" or "The fiendish Plot of Dr. Fumanchu" or any other of the many films Sellers went multi role egomaniacal on, because the British film industry really believed he could do no wrong. Films like "After the Fox" and "Battle of the sexes" and his one good multi role film "The Mouse that Roared" show what Sellers could do with a strong director who would take none of his shit and got great performances out of him, Kubrick unfortunately could not, we can thank the studio gods that Kubrick did not give sellers his head and allow him to play 'Buck' Turgidson and Major 'King' Kong as well, because Sellers is on record as being furious when those parts were taken away from him. Interestingly the most acclaimed Kubrick film Spartacus, is also the most reviled as being the most Un-Kubrick by his fans. This is not surprising Kirk Douglas insisted on Kubrick as director, because he had been so pliable on Paths of Glory and basically allowed Douglas to direct the film by proxy, which he did again on Spartacus (Compare both films to Posse 1975 and you can see Douglas the director stamped all over them. Kubrick did not have final cut on Spartacus but Douglas did.

We have something similar in the uk, where a person can be forcibly tranquillised if they are posing a danger to themselves or others, or if a parent is endangering their child by refusing medical attention a judge can order that the child can be treated. I knew of a bloke whose parents had been Jehovah's Witless, who had this done to them when he was involved in a traffic accident as a boy, they refused to have him back in their home afterward, claiming he was not longer their son, because he had "Dead Demonic Blood" in him. He had to go live with a relative who lived up the road from us until he turned 18.
This is a worry.

If I am hurt and unconscious, you can damn will take it as implied consent to do whatever the fuck you like if it will save my life. You let me die because I could not give consent and I hope you are charged with willful murder.

@powder you want to die, that's fine by me, you want to take other people with you on a matter of principle, that is a problem.
