Does God want Christians to be a ‘good guy with a gun’?

What is a “good guy?” In Numbers 15, a man is found working on the Sabbath. God orders him to be killed and he is stoned. The Isralites war against Midian, and "slew every male". They take captive the women and children, and take all cattle, flocks and goods as loot, and burn all cities ...

There is no democracy... Yup that's corrected the original OP. There has been no democracy since the time of the ancient Greeks, just a pretense at it, to hegemonic placate the ill educated plebs with the illusion that they are free.
LenHazell53 replies on Sep 8, 2020:
@FrayedBear True. Democracy was a system developed for the election of governance in a city state with a very small population, that relied on on an educated elite class to keep them and those considered lesser, safe and comfortable so they could be of better service to said elite. Now when you try to apply that to populations of millions or even a billion on the premise that all people are equally capable of making sound and informed decisions and will not succumb to a cult of personality, popularity or the promises of personal interest you will have something that is just as far from the ideal of democracy as the original form was. When you have a population of a couple of thousand, voting for ten independent men to represent them, it is likely that they will be somewhat representative of the electorate. What we have now are a couple of hundred elite (ie Rich NOT necessarily educated)people, under one leader, organised in to two internally cooperating parties, one of which will command a ruling majority. Therefore at best your government is going to be representative of 50% of the adult population if that. The other half is in effect an oppressed mass lumbered with a government they did not vote for and who does not represent them, because they are effectually powerless.

LenHazell53 replies on Sep 7, 2020:
@FearlessFly Oh little @Housefly no because nowhere else in the civilised world can and do ordinary people carry around guns as a matter of legally sanctioned course, nor do they demand the right to do so as a constitutional right, or have gun crime in some states as the third most common cause of death. Only my friend @blowfly, in the USA is the last resort of taking a life seen as the prefered first reaction, by common folk and the police. The American social system is inherently violent and many decent American's know it and so campaign for reform, only to consistently shot down, often literally. For example, @fruitfly ONE person was shot in the UK this morning and it is a matter of national news and import to find out, who and why and even more importantly HOW? How the actual fuck did a 15 year old get his hands on a gun? In the US it would probably not even make the local news. In the context of the incident in the OP, people having a picnic leads a person to apoplectic fits in front of women and children and actual threats born of homicidal rage simply because they call themselves satanist. IN the UK people would probably be too busy laughing and taking the piss at the eccentric Loons to get angry. So strange as it may seem to you @Openfly outside of the USA civilised people do not do that unless they are mentally unstable or paralytically drunk (and apparently this dick was neither) and even then usually don't have access to the weapons to make good on it. We have this thing called a sense of humour and proportionate response 😊

LenHazell53 replies on Sep 3, 2020:
@MissKathleen some of the other answers here seem to see this as victim shaming, it is not, the problem in this case is not one of weakness or shame, it is that one manipulative and unscrupulous person can take advantage of a nieve partner and establish a control over them, by instilling a cycle of abuse, akin to being indoctrinated into a cult. Such Mental Abuses use the B.I.T.E. model in the same way churches and cults do. Getting out requires help from someone who understands, not aggression that only reinforces the abusers claims and will send you running back to their protection. Once you have been through this, *the problem* goes away because you can spot someone doing again a mile away before it gets a hold upon you, however while you are trapped within it you see questioning it as an act of betrayal and further proof that you are as horrible and worthless as you have been told that you are.

@FearlessFly It was not an ad-hominem, it was an insult, you obviously don't know the difference and so are not worth discoursing with, you see? This post is an ad hominem. Unless of course your were referring to my post to @Marionville, which could be "taken" as an ad-hominem attack upon you, but since you were not my interlocutor at time, would be stretching the protocols of rhetoric, and still would not technically be an ad-hominem but rather be The Offence Fallacy on your part.

Herd Immunity occurs when enough of the susceptible population has died. In modern terms the "herd" is the entire human population of the world. While other countries pursue effective strategies to reduce transmission, Trump's America pursues genocide.
LenHazell53 replies on Aug 31, 2020:
@Cutiebeauty I'm afraid it does actually, as those who are most susceptible are removed from the gene pool, those who are more resistant live. It was often wondered up until a few years ago, what happened to the black death from the 7th century, until it was proven by forensic archeology that nothing happened to, it is still here and is a mild form of anthrax that 99.9% of people are immune to. We are the descendants of the survivors and the naturally immune. Same with the plague of the middle ages, and the strain of bubonic plague from the 17th century. Trump and Boris try an wrap it up in pseudo science but the are actually talking about a cull.

In any given social system of culture there are contextually "good" and "bad" people and within such the quote makes sense. Your criticism can only be true within a conceptual state of perfect objectivity, such as that used by idealist philosophers for the construction of abstract concepts.
