Teen ‘kills paedophile priest by ramming crucifix down his throat’ | Metro News

I can't say that this makes me unhappy. Shame it took so long for someone to finally do something about it.
Do you think we'll ever reach a point when atheists are the majority and when?
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 28, 2019:
Despite lots of pessimism expressed here, and I realise it may take longer in America than elsewhere, but I give it three more generations in none theocratic countries before the "Nones" are in the vast majority. In the UK the amount of regular worship attenders is less than 6.3% (English Church Census 2008 ) and most of those are JW's, Mormons, Muslims and Jews. Most non white attendees are over sixty in the mainstream Christian churches or average over 30 in none white Christian churches where child attendance is usually compulsory. Many denominations of Christians CANNOT recruit new clergy to the point where some methodist ministers are covering up to five congregations and Cof E churches are closing and or are being sold at an unprecedented rate. In the Scandiwegian nations it is already far more advanced with less than 2% of the population identifying as Christian or church going. I hope I will live long enough to see it, if the world's societies survives that long.

I dislike any organized religion
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 28, 2019:
Welcome, and I agree that any religion that is subject to administrative rule and therefore in that sense organized is pretty much despicable and a large scale con run by immoral money grubbing thieves. Religion itself as the word suggests is a form of mental bondage, tribalism and control, I am glad to be rid of it out of my life.
For ex believers there is always this question of a religion replacement.
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 28, 2019:
I feel the type of former believer you are talking about is of the kind who will in time graduate toward Buddhism or another non deist religious ideology or alternately in to some form of naturalist mysticism. Personally I am of the opinion that rejection of religion or theism or both also will inevitably lead to a rejection of the supernatural and the metaphysical too, it certainly did for me.
This is my first post, and I wondered what it would be about.

Managing to blatantly lie to enough terrified, racists, homophobes and imbecile to not only win the brexit referendum but also to get himself elected prime minister. A man who openly called Muslim women letterbox wearing bank robbers, homosexual men tank top wearing bum boys, instigated mad mad rules on business and then blamed the EU for them, and drove around in a bus claiming that £350million was being wasted on the EU every week and would on his watch be given to the NHS AND WAS CAUGHT OUT LYING AND PUBLICLY SHAMED FOR ALL OF THEM still got a majority of the country to vote for his openly fascist agenda. Because Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson convinced them he is the workers friend! If that is not outrageous I don't know and dread to think what is.

How many here have ever heard of a film titled "Medicine Man" starring Sean Connery?
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 28, 2019:
I saw it, it was shown on the BBC and Connery's character claims to have found a cure for A.I.D.S. not cancer, but the section of the jungle essential to producing plants for that cure is about to be destroyed. It may have been changed to cancer for elsewhere in the world (as the word Aids was a fear driven poison back in 1992) however here is a quote used in all the trailers Dr. Robert Campbell: What don't you understand? I found the cure for the fucking plague of the twentieth century and now I've lost it. When has cancer ever been described as a plague?

No effort has been spared to reach this astronomical figure and the methods that they have used must demand our unstinted admiration. You know Humes began with certain very serious disadvantages but these they overcame with wonderful ingenuity not having a fang or a claw or even the whistle worth talking about they invented guns and tanks and bombs and airplanes and extermination camps and poison gas and daggers and swords and bayonets and booby traps and atomic bombs and flying missiles, submarines, warships, aircraft carriers and motorcars. They have even perfected a process whereby they can spread a lethal disease on any part of this planet not to say anything about nuclear power. Oh oh and during their short history you know humans have subjected other humes to death by burning hanging decapitation, strangulation, electrocution, shooting, drowning, crushing, racking, disemboweling and other methods far far too revolting for the delicate stomachs of this august assembly.

If there iddy biddy lickle feelings are hurt because I draw attention to the fact that their faith is without foundation, is reprehensible and evil then FUCK THEM, they need to grow up, start thinking and and stop relying on an imaginary friend to tell them how to live their mostly useless lives.

Tarantism, (n.) Overcoming melancholy by dancing; the uncontrollable urge to dance
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 21, 2019:
This definition is wrong or at least largely incomplete. Tarantism is a mental condition, very rare and largely only know about because of the records of a huge outbreak beginning in 15th century Italy and culminating in 17th century Medieval Europe, before disappearing almost completely. Sufferers were overcome but an irresistible urge to dance often dancing themselves to death from exhaustion. many believed the cause to be a bite from large spiders carried in to the country in imported goods (Not necessarily from what we call tarantulas today) hence the name Tarantism from tarantula's disease given by the common people to what was know in medical circles as dancing mania or malady. It is very rare today and is usually the result of religious nutters telling people they can fast and dance the devil or the devil's disease out of themselves by reaching such a state of utter fatigue that the devil believes they are about to die and flees the body. Unfortunately it often proves too effective and the patient dies anyway. EDIT IN Europe today there is a wild and overtly sexual dance known as a Tarantella, that is named for the condition, and the way sufferers apparently behaved.

Or nowhere if the Jews are right? The after life myth is not exclusively Christian and if the Christians ARE right, it's okay because according to Jesus heaven is only temporary, because after a period in the grave or in paradise we will ALL raise from the dead (Minus our naughty bits) be glorified and live forever on earth (but with no sea) whether we want to or not.

LenHazell53 comments on Dec 18, 2019:
This is not new, it was fist postulated in 1991 and proven in 2007. This is why people who are quadriplegic don't need heart stimulation even if they need mechanical aided breathing, and why people with severe brain damage in a coma still have heart functionality. The heart neurological complex (it is not an actual brain) is a evolved survival mechanism, it is remarkable but not miraculous and it certainly does not think in the same way the brain proper does and certainly gives no credence to the ancient Greek idea that the heart not the head is the seat of all reason.

Hence Mormon Kolob became BG's Kobol, the quorum of the 12 apostles became the galactic ruling quorum of the 12 planets, Laminites became Cylons etc. However for some reason by the Time Jedi came out, the rumour has switch to the more popular Star wars franchise even though George Lucas is a Buddhist.

As late as April 2012 “Corpus Christi: Playing With Redemption,” a reworking of Terrence McNally’s 1998 play, “Corpus Christi,” was being condemned for simply having a gay man play Jesus and flirt with other actors while in costume. It has almost now become a cliché to make controversial Jesus films and attract $millions of free publicity from irate godbotherers.

Just overheard a conversation: Lady: Hey, how are you?

I think I would have been tempted to answer with Jonestown Koolaid and waited to see if he got it.

Henry Palfrey is the hero of perhaps my all time favourite British Comedy School for Scoundrels (1960). The name makes sense in context https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teUVlyhalYw

Why do you have such an arsehole as a friend? I would have told him or her to fuck off and not come back till the grew up years ago.
Dealing with praying?
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 11, 2019:
In other peoples houses I just say "No thanks" when asked to pray, and immediately after they have finished mumbling to their invisible friend I thank and compliment my hosts and the meal provided and for my invitation. If they insist on knowing why I tell them I find it a matter of very bad manners that I should thank and credit "gawd" for a meal, my host cooked, prepared, served and paid for.
Am i alone in my feeling that theres something going on that some might call god.
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 11, 2019:
You are definitely not alone, millions of people who should know better fill in gaps in their understanding with mythical nonsense. The better question is "are you right?" To which my answer is a resounding NO. You simply have not informed yourself enough yet to gain actual answers to your pondering, rather than lazy "god of the gaps" settling. There is nothing "going on" that can not now, or will in the future be able to be explained logically, reasonably and evidentially.

A classic snippet of dialog, just replace the word idiot with bigoted racist asshat Dreyfus: How can an idiot be a policeman? Answer me that! Clouseau: Well, it's very simple...all he has to do is enlist and... Dreyfus: Shut up! Return of the Pink Panther 1976
Do you think that " I have found god" should mean the same as "A get out of Gaol/Jail free" card.

There is no such thing as a *genuine conversion* there are those who proclaim a conversion who are deluding themselves and those who proclaim a conversion with the intent of deluding others.

MARMALISE.
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 9, 2019:
MARMALISE I Think is the correct spelling, as in Mick the Marmaliser who along with Dicky Mint was one of the original ventriloquist's dummies of the late and wonderful Ken Dodd, who (slightly redesigned) would later go on to lead the Diddy Men
