Beliefs are the excuses people use for asserting the truth of something for which they have no evidence. I do not hold beliefs, I learn and understand facts, when facts are not available I trust in theories that have not yet been proven false as being the most probable explanation, or else eschew having an opinion.

LenHazell53 comments on Apr 7, 2021:
British Mooreland is often hailed by some as areas of natural beauty, but they are actually the tragic result of over eight hundred years of great land mismanagement . After th invasion of the Normans in 1066, William the first introduced the forestry laws, seizing all of the woodland (Then covering more than 37% of the British mainland) for the crown and the Barons and other nobles. This lead to the devastation of 80% of the woodland covering the British mainland for programs of ship building, town building and the stead conversion of an arboreal economy to and agricultural one, with forests cleared for meadows, grazing lands and crops. Resulting in vast areas of moorland and scrub. Land owners carried out at other times the practice of Harrying, that is driving people and entire villages out of their homes and lands in order to burn down "useless" trees in favour of either grazing lands, crop farming or cultivation of trees such as oak better suited to carpentry and charcoal, under the auspices of sheriffs and royally appointed Land Lords. It even became a practice in the middle ages for Spanish spies to sneak in to England and set fire to forests, to cripple ship building in the run up to war. The Forrest Law was finally overturned at the end of the 19th century and replaced with the Forestry Act and the establishment of the Forestry Commission to police it, when it became clear only 5.5% of Britain's woodland remained and that this was made up of about only 40 species of "useful" tree, ie fruit bearing or timber ready trees. In the hundred years plus since the establishment of the Forestry Commission, many species have been returned and the percentage of woodland has risen from 5% to 13% but much of the "Green and Pleasant" land will never be restored.

I'm fascinated by the question: Is reincarnation possible?
LenHazell53 comments on Apr 4, 2021:
90% of the modern western obsession with reincarnation originated with the "Bloxham Tapes" made by Arnall Bloxham the father of regression therapy. ALL of Bloxham's work has been thoroughly debunked as subconscious recounting of films, novels, historical texts etc while under deep hypnosis. However Bloxham inspired several famous works of fiction such as the Audrey Rose case, the Bridey Murphy case, the Peter Proud case and others, that established the idea in the public imagination of reincarnation of tortured souls returning to seek justice or vengeance in a new body.
I'm fascinated by the question: Is reincarnation possible?
LenHazell53 comments on Apr 4, 2021:
Reincarnation is based on the idea of the transmigration of a soul and so presumes the existence of a soul, there is as little evidence for the existence of souls as there is for gods. Reincarnation is a fun idea, but it is no more real than sparkling vampires, dragon's hoards or armored polar bears.

Here's a random thought: If demonic possession is a thing, why isn't angelic possession?
LenHazell53 comments on Apr 1, 2021:
First of all in Christian mythology demonic possession does not mean that a demon takes you over, (except in Hollywood and in Peter Blatty novels) the term actually means you become so corrupt in yourself that you voluntarily take possession of (invite in) a demon and allow it to work through you, the same goes for Angelic possession. Yes there are Christian myths of Angelic possession, Ecstasy of Saint Teresa is one such story, though Angel's apparently bless you with moments of pure joy and sometimes special powers. Angelic possession was the basis of the action horror film "Legion" (2010)

In my life I had (I thought) three good friends One knowing I would be out burgled my flat after saying he was too ill to come to my birthday party at the local arts center, for less than I would have simply given him, had he asked. One gave in to an "its him or me ultimatum" from his fiancé later wife, who claimed I was a bad influence, because when he was with me he was having to much fun. The other died at the age of 52 in Japan, alone, of a heart attack, in a bad marriage, to a woman who reverted to her maiden name after his passing, he working two jobs in Hiroshima to pay off debts she had not told him she had when they married. He could not even leave her as under Japanese law you cannot leave the country if you or a member of your family is in debt. And all that is not counting my mentally and physically abusive late first wife This is why I don't have friends anymore, just family, colleagues and acquaintances. One can only take so much heart ache and disappointment in one life time.

He was a draft dodger and was soley responsible for the deaths of almost everyone who worked on "The Conquerer" his love letter to his hero Ghengis Khan, by filming on the cheap on land formerly used for atomic bomb testing in Mexico that was still massively radioactive. This resulted in everyone at the shoot suffering radiation poisoning and dying from radiation induced cancer, including Wayne himself within 23 years.

Entered general usage because of the legend of the Gordian Knot (nodus Gordium). Gordias created a knot so complex no one could untie it and steal his ox, because of this he was considered so wise he was made King of Phrygian. Years later when Alexander the great marched in to Phrygian, the son of Gordias, Midas offered Alexander the whole kingdom if he could untie his father's knot and steal his ox, believing it an unsolvable problem. Alexander took out his sword and severed the knot in one swipe and then killed Midas with a second and took the kingdom.
