So how do you maintain a level of respect for those who believe in these fairytales?
LenHazell53 comments on Mar 5, 2019:
I used to believe that a person had to be either gullible or self deluded to believe in religion, in time I have modified m opinion. I know good, talented and intelligent people who have a blind spot when it comes to godbothering and like to think of themselves as (insert religion here) but actually follow only a few select doctrines and don't even know what their holy books advocated. There is a big difference between these ordinary decent people who happen to identify one way or another and the fundamentalist shit heads who let religion and doctrine rule their lives and actions, commit atrocities in the name of a god or gods and are in fact deranged. The casual believer thinks no less of me for my atheism and respects my choices, hates almost no one and has no slavish devotion to a church or whatever. Though my respect for that sort of person is lessened by their attributing their possitivity so some sky daddy I can still hold them in esteem for the good they do, unlike the fanatic for who I have no respect or trust at all.
Your faith is determined by where you were born or where you were brainwashed. Do you agree?
LenHazell53 comments on Mar 5, 2019:
It is a known psychological fact that children accept the reality they are born in to, it is only later and by informed contemplation that they make changes to their minds, though a majority do not, because thinking takes too much effort and it is easier to simply conform.

Consequently when I has a severe bronchial infection a year of so later I was give a course of fluoridated antibiotics, which worked but when my adult teeth grew I was found to have severe Dental fluorosis resulting in extreme tooth and bone discolouration. Since at the time it was the only alternate treatment available for my condition and it did save save my life there is no case for compensation, and on the upside I never needed a filling until I was in my forties. However I have never really believed that fluoridation of drinking water was a good idea because it was expressly told to my mother that flouride WOULD discolour my teeth but it was unavoidable. So it has been widely known at least since the 1950s. The only reason it has been done in the UK and the USA that I can think of is the other medical properties of fluoride such as being a depressant (ironically a key ingredient in anti-depressants) an antibiotic and detoxin

Fellow UK Atheists and Antitheists.
LenHazell53 comments on Mar 1, 2019:
People and society in the UK are trained from birth to respect religion even if you don't believe in it, trust the clergy, they are good people, those kiddlie fiddling priests and sadistic nuns are not not "real" Christians, so don't judge the church by them, people have a"right" to their religion, and on and on, in Sunday School, school daily assemblies, Christmas Carole services, day trips to cathedrals and of course Bishops sitting in the house of Lords, which technically make the UK a partial Theocracy. It is hard to break that conditioning even when you break away from religion, and hard not to think that even when the barrel is full of stinking bad apples, that they are just a few and the whole crop should not be judged by them. It took me a long time after becoming atheist to become anti-theist and begin to despise those who still tacitly support the corrupt institutions of religion and are happy to rely on them for their "Daily Bread"

Oddly the sprinkler is called this because in the Roman army of the empire days the weapon we would come to know in medieval England as a Morning Star was called an aspergillum or aspergilli, the literal translation of which is a rough or vulgar seal (as in the sense of signed sealed and delivered). The reason for the adoption of the name is because catholic priest often used the hard metal ball to apply a swift punishment to the back of a deacon or choirboys head when dozing or misbehaving in church.
