The Army won't allow soldiers who claim to be followers of Flying Spaghetti Monster to wear beards.
LenHazell53 comments on May 24, 2020:
This was the whole point of the FSM religion was to prove that all religions should not be allowed special privileges. This was proving such a problem and a threat that a coalition of churches took the matter to court and had the US supreme court rule that the "Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster" is not a real religion. It was a fair bet they would win as a similar case some years ago ruled Scientology was not a real religion either, but was allowed to register as a charity and so retain it's tax exempt status. (Something the FSM has never even applied for.)

In such cases it is perfectly reasonable to feel such criticism is well deserved.

Among the general population mainly answer A Among the religious hierarchy almost exclusively answer B I was told after leaving Mormonism (by three former Bishops) that almost everyone who becomes a bishop comes to the conclusion the church is not true very quickly, at which point they either leave (the rate of apostasy amongst ward and stake bishops is something like 80%) or they decided to make a career in the church by propagating the lie, these fuckers almost always move on to paid clergy work such as Stake president (with the appropriate honorarium or stipend) or move in to the CES (church education system) as a paid employee. (there is a myth that the LDS has no paid clergy, it is exactly that a myth.) Once there you are on a career path that can and sometimes does go alway the way to being the Prophet when you are about 92 as a rule of thumb especially if you can find some spurious genealogical connection to one of the patriarch of the church, nepotism is a powerful force in all religious institutions especially the Saints.

Atheism is an absense of belief in god(s).
LenHazell53 comments on May 17, 2020:
"However to not believe in something is in itself a belief," This is incorrect, based on the false premise that the opposite of the verb "to believe" is "to not believe" or is "disbelief" neither of which it is strictly correct. Not believing is the absence of belief in a thing or practice (eg I do not believe in circumcision) Disbelief is to be indifferent to the proposed thing or practice (eg my disbelief in phlogiston makes it's truth or lack thereof irrelevant to me, so long as I can access fire) The true opposite of belief is is skepticism and/or doubt, both of which require an evidential basis to be valid. Without evidence they simply revert to being denial. eg I doubt or am skeptical of the existence of any deity because there is no evidential reason to do so. In reality regardless of how they express it an Atheist (in the literal sense of the word) is skeptical of deity and religion as a whole, but will likely express his or her doubt *coloquially* as non belief or disbelief thus opening themselves up to theist equivocations. One cannot believe that one disbelieves, or does not believe something, you either know it or you do not, if you do not you must retain some degree of belief and so are simple obfuscating or quibbling.

Though Chirac did serve another term as President and did attempt to pardon himself he eventually was tried in 2011 and was given a 2 year suspended sentence. From that point on elections have become a choice of the lesser of two evils all over the world and one that a surprising number of people are willing to accept under the philosophy that you don't get anywhere in life by being honest, and the higher the rank you attain the better and more successful crook you are, skills you can carry over in to being a "strong" leader.

Idealistic to say the least. I worked for many (many, many) years in retail and the one constant has always been the widely held belief that retail would be a terrific job, if it weren't for all the customers. Customers are invariable a combination of any two or more of the following traits: Theiving, nosey, irascible, racist, sexist, angry, arrogant, gossipy, rude, vulgar, quick to anger, impatient, violent, clumsy, SMELLY, drunk, self righteous and above all else fucking stupid! And as a retail professional you *have* to pretend to notice none of this, be polite and pleasant and guide the fuckwits to what they actually need rather than what they incorrectly think they want, because an hour later according to their furious wife on the phone to your manager, it will be **your fault** if the stupid burke decided to take home a cucumber frame instead of a greenhouse, a dog instead of a gerbil or a new car instead of a replacement shoelace. On line retail is a boon to sales, it is cleaner, safer, less disgusting and happily is it seems here to stay. The customer may enjoy a chat, but after the fifty ninth time in one day some twat has answered your "Good morning sir" with "What's good about it?" or "No it's not" or "fuck you" and thought they were the first person ever to come up with such a magnificent *bon moe* the rictus smile on you face does begin to twitch a little.

SHOCKING The man was a fucking nazi, ambitious raging anti-Semite, a racist who who called black people animals, and a horror of a human being who declared Hitler's birthday a holiday for all catholics this some years after he helped get Hitler elected to the chancellorship by (as nuncio to Germany) banning and disbanding the catholic people's party in the Reichstag allowing enough abstaining votes for Hitler to seize power. In exchange for which Hitler granted a Concordat to the RC in German to set the school curriculum and control the election of Bishops in the country. Suggested reading Hitler's Pope: The Secret History of Pius XII Book by John Cornwell A book banned by the Catholic church (but widely available anyway) for claiming that Pope Pillock knew about Nazi atrocities, published in 1999 those same claims now proven to be true.

This the problem that to me as an outsider seems obvious. When as a society you encourage people to think they have the legal right to carry weapons, people will assume that means that they have the legal right to USE weapons. And those simply enforcing the law are seen in cases like this as oppressors of other legal rights. Hence in many cases the option of last resort (armed violence) instead becomes the first response. Until the USA culturally changes it's psychopathic attitude to guns this going to happen again and again.
A somewhat sarcastic/facetious thought crossed my.

Shameful is too mild a word. This sort of exploitative capitalist is disgusting.
