Why do people believe in the devil when it’s obviously a myth?
LenHazell53 comments on Sep 21, 2020:
As a fictional creation the Devil is a far more interesting character than god or Jesus. In a literary sense his is the young underdog who stood up against his all powerful boss and not only survived, but remained unbroken "Better to rule in Hell than be a slave in Heaven" He refuses to capitulate, he refuses to surrender, he fights the odds and overcomes, he has the courage of his own convictions and charismatically leads an army of 33% of the angels who agree with him on a quest for freedom from the unfair and cruel rules of YHWH. The god that grants free will to beings and then forbid them to use it, that demands love by force, that enforces respect by fear, who kills on a genocidal level. He even offers Jesus a way out of the insane scapegoating sacrifice of god sacrificing himself, to himself, to appease himself, 3 times and is turned down. In short he is a far more believable and enticing character than either the maniac god of the OT or the wishy washy bastard of the NT. No wonder he is more popular and has appeared in more film and literature than his old boss.

The betrayal perpetrated by a close relative who when trusted with the care of your child, abuses that trust in all senses of the word and in doing so ruins and destroys multiple lives and families. That I would and could never forgive nor forget.

Somewhere I saw a supposedly biblical story from the OT -- young David was being chased by King Saul...
LenHazell53 comments on Sep 20, 2020:
That story is not Biblical, it is Midrash. Also it is not complete, in the original young David questions god s to why he made Madmen, spiders and stinging wasps all thing David feels have no purpose and are at odd with the supposed wisdom of god. God gets pissed off at David, calls him a cheeky bastard and promises that one day Daviy boy will see why Wasps, spiders and nut jobs are all proof of HIS divine wisdom. Through various situations years later god arranges for David to be endangered and in fear of his life three times, the first time he escapes death by pretending to be mad, the second is the Spider story and the third is David gets stuck in Saul's tent while trying to rob the mad king Saul in his sleep and only gets away because the guard is stung by a wasp. Thus proving Spiders, wasps and loonies were created by god purely for the purpose of getting David out of sit com situations a few thousand years later that he god engineered in the first place and showing how "wise" the daft bugger was..

Noumenon: a posited object or event that exists independently of human sense and/or perception.
LenHazell53 comments on Sep 19, 2020:
So a bollocks word then, used to try and justify the existence of imaginary things. If something is existing independently of human sense and/or perception it may as well not exist at all, since it is completely irrelevant to perceived reality since it would would be completely indistinguishable for something that did not exist at all. As such and by definition, the instant a noumenon was able to be detected it would not be one anymore, it would immediately become a phenomenon. It is akin to nothing, dark, cold etc. describing only an absence of something else.

Apparently yes. Shakespeare's plays were used to attempt incite rebellion during his lifetime and Aristotle warned against undue popularity being given to certain types of music and musicians. However the cult of worshiping fame has become much more powerful in the 20th and 21st century with "famous" people's endorsement being sought by politicians and the even worse either politicians trying to be come famous as entertainers (eg Boris Johnson) or Entertainers switching to become politicians such as Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Donald Trump. LenHazell53 comments on Sep 18, 2020:

The Taoists observed that humans tend to act in ways that are counterproductive.
LenHazell53 comments on Sep 18, 2020:
Human creativity and to an extent human social evolution has always been based on the idea of looking at what is deemed unnatural or impossible and figuring out how to do it anyway. Taoism on the other hand is a hypocritical extrapolation of the idea often expressed as "If I was meant to fly, I would have been born with wings." Which is easily countered with "If you are meant to be a fuckwit, why were you born with a brain?"

LenHazell53 comments on Sep 18, 2020:
NO because Nietzsche is using "slave morality" as a designation for those following Christian precepts of surrendering to god, serving the church, suppressing desires and the lie of theological chiasmus (he who is least amongst us is greatest and he who is greatest is the servant of all) In Nietzsche's philosophy Christians have slave morality, Christianity as an institution has Master Morality and a vested interesting in maintaining that status quo. Atheists have no part in the predicate.

Death explains why it is necessary to teach children to believe in "The Hog Father" (santa) in the novel of the same name. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE. "Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little—" YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES. "So we can believe the big ones?" YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING. "They're not the same at all!" YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME...SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED. There is also the story of Sister Mildred, a famous Yorkshire Nun in the 1950s whose charity work, self-denial and goodness in life meant she was actually considered for sainthood upon her death. To this end, the local Catholic Church raised quite a large amount of money for a head stone for her. After a lot of consideration the inscription was decided upon: **Here resting at last is our Belov'd Sister Mildred. Lord She was *thine*** The order was sent to the stonemason, and when the time came, the Mother Superior went to collect the stone. To her horror it read **Here resting at last is our Belov'd Sister Mildred. Lord She was *thin*** "You stupid man," Cried the Mother superior. "You have forgotten the E, take it away an put in the E at once!" The stone mason full of apologies set back to work and returned the stone an hour later now reading **Here resting at last is our Belov'd Sister Mildred. Eeee Lord She was *thin***

This is one of the age old equivocations of the church To deliberately confuse Faith proper noun (a religion) with faith noun (to trust) and Faith Theological proper noun (to commit to believe without proof) They do not even have the same etymological roots The noun and proper noun faith both come from from the Latin *fides* meaning trust, or reliance The Theological Pronoun *Faith* comes from the 14th century when it was bastardised from the Anglo-Saxon *Foi and Troth* To pledge your self unconditionally, Hence Foi'th > Faith
