bamboo jale pronounced Bamboojal (Literal translation a Bamboo burner or person who burns bamboo) is a reference to the now forgotten Hindu belief that the smell of burning bamboo was displeasing to certain gods and would bring ill luck and mental instability on the sinner (bamboo fumes are mildly toxic).
The word simply became a slang term for those who know no better than to do stupid things and then in England became a word meaning to confuse, or to make stupid.

I have known highly educated people who are utter idiots, they have all the knowledge in the world and still be utterly negligent, ignorant of good manners, socially acceptable behaviour and general common sense.
Contrarily my best friend of 30 years finished school with no qualification whatsoever was told he would never amount to anything and spent much of his working life in a bathroom fittings warehouse.
At thirty six he was a successful self educated writer, went to college, then university and by the time of his death at the age of 52 was a doctor of literature, a professor of Critical theory and a successful script doctor of film and television scripts, play write and creative writing teacher.
This is why I say no one has the right to be the sort of ignorant, negligent, unthinking idiot who would leave a 7 year old home alone in a high rise with the window unlocked.
That sort of behaviour take a special kind of self indulgent moron.
I agree with your comments on the standards of education, and teaching, which again I think proves my point as I was moved from one school to another twice a years every year while growing up, I can say in all honesty, 90% of my education came from myself, from reading, studying and almost living in public libraries from the age of 11 and yet I was still stupid enough to be ensnared by religious indoctrination until the age of almost thirty.

I have been in crowded cinema's watching "Wrath of Khan" when dozens of people of joined in with Kirk, yelling "Fire!" as the Enterprise attacks.
This day and age a cry of fire, not accompanied by an alarm going off will probably only result in people shouting STFU in response.
Personally I use Incitement to crime or riot as the example of a limit on free speech since by necessity inferred negative intent is can be implied.

This day and age a cry of fire, not accompanied by an alarm going off will probably only result in people shouting STFU in response.

On the day I brought my son home from the hospital, literally only hours old he heard a flute playing on the television, he turned toward it and became wide eyed with wonder and joy.
Even today (He is 24) I see that same expression of joy and wonder on his face when he listens to a flutist it is and always has been his favourite musical instrument.

Return of the fly is probably the more frightening film some of the imagery is really horrific, such as the man with rat paws staring and gibbering in shock at the rat that now has human fingers.
(there was also a third film in B+W curse of the fly made in 1965, but it usually ignored as basically a poor remake by a different studio of the first film)

The point of course is that it is a total lack of freedom when opinions become moral and legal absolutes, which is what is happening.
That is the point when opinion becomes a crime, when thought becomes sedition and freedom is only the freedom to obey or die.

@Eclipsechaser You're right of course, It is pretty much a he said, he said situation, the version I gave came from Moffat, who was the show runner on both Who and Sherlock at the time, so both he and Cucumberpatch probably both wanted to appear as head honcho.
What ever the reason I'm glad it worked out the way it did, both he and Smith were fantastic and Benedict is now my third favourite Sherlock of all time, just behind Jeremy Brett and Peter Cushing.
