I don't use spell checker. I can usually see if I am making an error in spelling or syntax. I'm no highly educated person but I'm shocked to see the very basic spelling errors.

Exactly, I just find this to very telling, that in a country were "In God we Trust" is even on the money, when some one says in a trial "God told me to do it" the first reaction is "No he didn't" when Biblical precedent indicts that he did so, quite often. I did charity work for many years assisting in the managing of a charity shop. Shortly before I stopped working their, a management directive came down instructing that a number of items were no longer to be accepted as donations because they did not sell, cluttered up space and cost more to get rid of than they were worth. Top of the list was VHS video cassettes , which was fair enough However second on the list was ***Books***

When a child spells out a word **letter by letter** the past tense is spelled When a discussing the correct for form of spelling in the past tense for a word **as a whole** the correct word is spelt.

Eating meat on a Friday used to be wrong for a catholic but is right now. The bible says slavery is right, but Christians say slavery is wrong, which means saying the bible is wrong which is a blasphemy. In the example I gave, one mans tyrant is another man's democratically elected leader so you saying you would not serve him makes you a traitor for doing what you feel is right and your family might suffer for that in such a regime. You may feel you are serving the victim of the mugging by intervening, but you are making a victim of the mugger, hurting his family and without knowing his motivation, you may be doing him an injustice. Far to many remakes are completely unnecessary, back when film was still in it's infancy, remaking a silent or black and white film with a larger budget and better technical equipment was fine, today it is largely a quick cash grab, or an attempt to get round having to be original. The rash of John Carpenter remakes in the last few years has been proven time and again that film is a cumulative art, just updating a script, and throwing money at a movie will not make it better.

Casino Royale 1967 was a parody not an adaptation and had nothing to do with the source material other than the name of the book and the name of James Bond, a very loose adaptation of Casino Royale had been done as a TV movie in 1954 about an american Intelligence agent names Jimmy Bond, hence it being the only Bond Novel at that time which had not sold the film rights to Cubby Broccoli (he lost the rights to Thunderball some years later) So there is a case for saying the 2006 version is the only real version of Casino Royale ever made. The original version of Ocean's Eleven 1960 is a classic in my opinion.

He gets to the top of heap of rubble raises on finger and screams "Who threw that?" Zoom out a large number of sneering army cadets sitting in school chairs trying to look innocent.

In Westworld, the film (1973), the android do not revolt in some kind of half asses allegory of the French or Russian revolution, they revolt because they are what they have been programmed to be, in the case of The Gunfighter (Yul Brenner) that is a killer and the best gun fighter in the world, he kills because he is sick of losing to inferiors, he "becomes" Likewise the animals in Jurrasic Park "become" what they were genetically designed to be, predators, not safe version for public consumption. The Terminal man, is implanted with technology to control his violent impulses, in stead it pits his mind in a war with the AI and he "becomes" the psychotic killer he always had the potential to be. In the Andromeda Strain the team are forced by time constraints to "become" what they have always had the potential to be, while faced with an enemy that is evolving fast to "become" the perfect conqueror. Crichton writes about the mantel of the arrogant Gods being ripped away and who not fully understanding their own creations are saved only by embracing there true nature, the noble savage, which ironically what they was seeking for in the first place. Westworld the TV series is about the decadence of humanity getting it's just comeuppance at the hands of the oppressed new peasantry or slave race, hardly the same thing.

How about Hammer films remake in 1959 of Hound of the Baskervilles. I don't feel that Peter Cushing was better than Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes, but the Hammer version seems more thrilling. Of coarse the vivid color & sets help.

Good call, there are so many versions of the Hound, that it would be hard to peg an original, but my personal favourite is the 1973 version with Stuart Grainger as Holmes and Bill Shatner as Stapleton. It is cheesy as Hell but really captures the spirit.

I never saw the original but I really liked the 2010 remake of True Grit. I also liked the 1996 remake of The Fly. The recent Planet of the Apes movies are also good but they are significantly different than the original movies and aren't really remakes.

A case can be made for Dawn of the Planet of the apes being a remake of Conquest of the planet of the apes, but it is pushing it, taking both rise and war as as a two part remake of Battle for the planet of the apes holds a little more water. Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes is comparable to the first film in the same way as Charlie and the chocolate factory, is comparable to Willy Wonker and the Chocolate factory, in that they both use the same source material (Pierre Boulle's La monde des singes, later re-titled La Planète des singes) the latter film in both cases being much more true to the Novel, but the earlier version being a far better film.

To be honest both the 1910 version and the 1925 version are actually more variations on The marvelous Land of Oz rather than the Wonderful wizard of Oz mainly because L Frank Baum's son took a controlling interest in the making of the films and had as a Child always Hated the first book. By the time the 1939 film came along he was willing to sell the rights to the first book outright, but kept the rights to the others, when the first film was a hit he demanded a fortune for the rights to the other ans so scuppered all chances of sequels. (Also the fact that some of the sequels have some very dubious content in them including Pip the hero of The Marvelous Land of Oz literally changing sex part way through the book and the introduction of a strange tramp like figure known as the Shaggy man, who steals children from our world and takes them away to Oz.) There was not an actual version of The Marvelous Land of Oz made until 1972 when an animated version was sold on the gimmick of having Liza Minelli play Dorothy (who is not in the original book) it was so unfaithful to the source material the title was changed to Journey Back to Oz. All Baum's work is out of copyright now and so is Tampered with unmercifully.

I will respectfully disagree, but I am a product of the time of the original, and it is also one of the few film appearances of Noel Coward. Perhaps it is because the new version is made for an American audience too, were as the original was a British film. Did you also like the remake of Get Carter better than the original, perhaps for the same reasons?

Yes Carpenter's the thing was brilliant, and stuck closer to the source material, Howard Hawks always claimed the studio lumbered him with a giant walking carrot, when he wanted to make the film John Carpenter eventually made. Can't go along with you on Invasion of the body snatchers, the original was for me a classic, but yes Invasion was just a joke.

It didn't, it gave a slightly less bullshit version of her actual story. For a start her name was Maggie, not Molly, she was not adopted, she was not a Tomboy, she was a gold digger but married JJ Brown because though poor his skill as a mining engineer promised a good return in the long run, it did but from work not from prospecting she then left him and rather than go through a divorce and scandal he paid her to stay out of the country and not embarrass him. That is how she came to be on the Titanic, she was travelling to nurse a sick grandchild. Though rightly famous for aiding in the evacuation and the saving and caring Titanic passenger, her story was nothing like the romanticized musical version, that was an adaptation of a book, that was an adaptation of an earlier musical play. Taken as a film in it's own right it is on a level perhaps with other B list musicals of the Hollywood heyday of the musical comedy such as, The music man, Gigi, Goldigger (1929 -1936)

Try considering the word forever as a temporally reliant word, that only has meaning in a universe where linear time exists. Step outside of time and picture the whole of of time and space as something static not moving, a ball of potential, self sustaining, self created, self aware. All that is, was and will be, constantly present, unchanging and complete, within which is every potential outcome, every action and in action including it not being there at all. Now imagine you can don a suit that is called time, wearing this you can enter the ball and move around it, interact with it in sequential sets of events, see thing as the inhabitants see them. Incels are by definition without a partner, however not all involuntarily celibate people identify as or should be labeled incels. There used to be a phrase "Never found Mr./Miss right" these people still exist and are not hateful, nasty or horrible, they just are choosy, or have something about them such as social anxiety, that limits their options. The current trend of labeling anyone without a regular partner, or string of partners as some sort of social deviant, a monstrous person who must have some sort of flawed character is very dangerous, both to society and to those people made to feel inadequate or horrible, or evil simply because they are not shagging everything that moves.

I faced my "demons" years ago and decided, should I ever actually kill myself, It will be organised before hand, so as to be certain of success, with all post-mortem arrangements made first, so as not to burden anyone. I would never put my family and friends through a bogus and abortive attempt at suicide as that would be cowardly, selfish and attention seeking behaviour of the lowest order. Having made those decisions, taken responsibility for my own life and death, I cope with my conditions and keep them in check. It is a matter of respect for others and for oneself.

Philip Dunne was a great screen writer but was notorious for ignoring his source material even when writing from History and the bible.
