LenHazell53 comments on Apr 20, 2020:
It is a mistake to assume religion deals in right and wrong, or good and evil or even morality and ethics, they do not. Religion deals in Sin and Virtue, based solely on what their particular cult deems to be the preference of that particular deity at that particular time. This is extremely useful, especially at times of war, or social rebellion. For example if you want your flock to be in fear and crippled by guilt you find something completely natural and harmless that almost everyone does everyday and declare it a sin in the eyes of god. This immediately has a number of effects 1) It sets up an unpaid virtue police of people so determined to prove they are not sinning they will report those who they think (or want to think) are. 2) the guilt ridden will confess and leave themselves open to black mail if they do not atone 3) People will pay for forgiveness. 4) An appropriate punishment can be set, so instilling fear and obedience. 5) A virtuous hierarchy can seize power on deserved merit. 6) Natural disasters can be blamed on the sinners. This why most new religions immediately have a list of prohibitions for perfectly natural thing such as tea, coffee, pork, beef, homosexuality, masturbation, premarital sex, dancing or even chocolate. Conversely utterly horrendous things can be made to be virtuous and pleasing to god such as aversion therapy, forced purchase of religious items such as e-meters, mass suicide, prosperity gospels, exploitation, hating people of another religious persuasion, invasions of promised lands and the genocide or enslavement of the people already living there and extermination camps. Religion has nothing to do with good and evil, right and wrong and morality in the pragmatic or ethical sense at all, as I said it is all about subjective Sin and Virtue.

LenHazell53 comments on Apr 19, 2020:
Kitsch originated in mid 1920's Germany as an ironic aesthetic style as a counterpoint to French art nouveau by the 1970's it had reached a pinnacle of tastelessness in Europe and America before passing out of style. In dialectal German the word literally translates as to smear, but is used as a metaphor to mean ruined art.

I have read widely in to the history and diversity of the various Bibles after becoming atheist and is has only gone to prove to me further how corrupt and twisted the "Good Book(s)" is. Variations in translation, canon, interpretation etc have simply proven to me there is no such thing as the one true Holy Bible, it all depends on where you were born as to which religion or denomination is more insistent that it has the "right" one.
Pascal's Wager = a straw man argument?
LenHazell53 comments on Apr 19, 2020:
Pascal's Wager could be seen as a straw man, but it is frankly so inept that is hardy qualifies as a logical fallacy at all. As pointed out it is based upon presupersition, but is also reliant upon the idea that it should only be applied to the Christian god, when in fact the premise works equally well for any god or deity offering an afterlife or Parousia as a reward for a "virtuous" or "Sin" free life. For Pascal's wager to work, one would have to accept the entire pantheon of deity, known and unknown, and pledge allegiance to all of them in the hope of being forgiven by the right one for your eclectic fidelity and rewarded accordingly.

LenHazell53 comments on Apr 19, 2020:
I neither believe nor disbelieve, if I feel a bit bloated or irregular I will go meatless for a day or two, does me the world of good, then when I feel the need for meat, poultry or fish again I will eat it. I am a great believer in listening to your own body for your nutritional needs and using food as medicine. As a child I suffered from migraine, years later I discovered this was owning to food allergies, my wife has taught me to note the reaction of my digestive system to food stuffs and eat accordingly, happily this along with the invention of ibuprofen has meant I have only three severe attacks in the last 20 years.

The idea of "the other" will stave off true globalisms so long as people see other people not as "truly" human because of minor difference, genetically, culturally etc. It will take a far greater "other" to bring people together united by being human, something not even remotely human that is a threat not to a way of life, but to life itself.

This word is very old and dates from Chaucer. It is a mix of the phrase choke-full, meaning eating so much you might choke on you own vomit, and a navel term for a block and tackle used for hauling up sails. In the 14th century a new form of "block and tackle" was invented using three or four pullies instead of one held in close proximity (called a block) literally halving the work load, this device also included a locking pin known as a choke, (because it was jammed in to a hole) that meant the rope (or sheet) did not have to be tied off, see @TheGreatShadow 's post above). known colloquially as a choke-a-block it revolutionize sailing.

So sardonyx is onyx of Sardinia because it appears to have convulsed in to smile lines. This is also the root of the word Sardonic to laugh scornfully or in mockery of someone else's misfortunes

LenHazell53 comments on Apr 14, 2020:
Meaning number two was pseudo cockney rhyming slang for a Ponce, the British word for a pimp, especially for male prostitutes or child sex traffickers, by the mid-sixties it mainly meant the latter and and or a pædophile. Replacing Ponce with nonce was created by the writers (Clements and La Frenais) of "Poridge" a 1970's sit com set in Slade Prison. Not being allowed to use swear words on the BBC the writers created their own curses and most have now entered the language owing to the popularity of the show. Naff replaced Fuck, Nonce for Ponce (though this one had been used in it's original form on Steptoe and son ten years before) BarStool was used for Bastard, though this one was allowed in later seasons, Nerk for Cxnt, and spunker for wanker. The word Naff incidentally was invented by London homosexuals as part of the polari code language they used to avoid arrest, it meant a straight man.

He has in effect broken the union, ended the federation and declared all 50 states simple oblasts of the Washington DC empire, obligated to pay tribute to the God Emperor Trump with no obligation upon his part to reciprocate. Depending upon how this situation plays out, depending upon the consequences, the death toll and just how much comes to light in the aftermath, it could well lead too the end of the USA as is. There maybe demands to seal off states, there may be demands to secede from the union, claims of negligence and even crimes against humanity. One thing is for certain Trump himself will carry not only the shame of his impeachment, but the same of abandoning his own people for the rest of his life.
