Here's another one that's irked me since Sunday School.
LenHazell53 comments on May 12, 2018:
One of the many reasons the Christian faith has proven so popular is that thanks to the mass of hypocrisy, contradiction and double standards in the Holly Babble the religion can be all things to all men, it can be used to sanction slavery or speak out against it, it can favour the rich and loath them at the same time, it can laud and condemn poverty, preach violence and pacifism as being the same thing.
JORDAN PETERSON: Christianity Stealing Credit for Human Nature, Bionic Dance [youtube.com]
LenHazell53 comments on May 12, 2018:
When Peterson first emerged, he was portrayed as the saviour of free speech, the advocate of common sense. Slowly but surely he has simply degraded himself and used his fame and influence to be come the new champion apologist for Christianity, the legitimate and educated face of theological stupidity wearing the mask of science. I went from a deep respect of the man to deep disappointment in a matter of weeks. Though his take down of Cathy Newman was awesome and still a long over due moment of classic television.
Religion In Politics And Constitutional Issues. Do they gel?
LenHazell53 comments on May 12, 2018:
Calling the UK a Christian country is technically true, though population wise the majority of the populous are non practicing Christians but the church of England does of course have a vastly disproportionate influence on UK politics. You are actually mistaken the Arch Bishops and bishops (26 in all) of the church of England have a seat each in the upper house of parliament (House of Lords) and a vote on the passing or reconsidering of legislation. Also the Queen has a royal veto, it is rarely used but does exist. The UK is in this respect one of the only four western theocracies. UK/commonwealth, Israel, Utah, the Vatican.
If you found out the Christian God of the bible was real, would you worship him?
LenHazell53 comments on May 12, 2018:
Even if it were proven beyond reasonable doubt that God or Gods existed, I would still not acknowledge their authority over me, nor their right to worship, nor their right to deism, because they had and have done nothing to deserve my deference, nor my respect and certainly not my love. To be honest I would be highly pissed off at them, him, her, it. Should they by force try to take control I would resist in the same way I would resist any invader of tyrant. The existence of a deity makes no difference to my atheism, it simply chances from my doubting their existence to my doubting their authority and claims to deity.
What to do?
LenHazell53 comments on May 12, 2018:
It is simple, you LGBTQ daughter has given you the way out. You simply tell her if her sister is not welcome and sis subject to condemnation in the church then you cannot in all conscience attend as you cannot favour one of you children over another. Wish them well, thank them for the invitation and tell your daughter that you a re sure that she as a Christian will be Christ like understand and forgive you.

Anyone else here involved in ' Street Epistomology' or is this simply an American activity?
LenHazell53 comments on May 11, 2018:
It worries me; it's just a little too like organised proselytising, with all the inherent sneakiness and dishonesty left intact. I'd rather just discuss the truth with those who approach me, or popularise truth scatter style.

Supermarket rant.
LenHazell53 comments on May 11, 2018:
Supermarkets are in a constant state of merchandising flux. The impermanence of product locations is vital to the encouragement of impulse buying. However the customer is infinitely adaptable and will within a matter of days memorise a new layout and avoid falling in to the devious trap of the planogram ensnarement. However the location of the egg display is the trick within the trap. It is an inviolate law that the egg display can only be found once you know where it is, and may only be guided to by the most cicuitious route possible, thus ensuring the maximum exposure of the customer to those shelves of whatever currently overstocked, overpriced and heavily pushed, mistakenly ordered old tat we are desperate to get rid of before its sell by date.
Are there any Gnostic Atheist out there besides me?
LenHazell53 comments on May 11, 2018:
There's an undetectable God out there and the only way I as an individual will ever know anything about this God is if this God provides a direct revelation. Then is that actually a god in any way shape or form, or just some cosmic dwelling arsehole? There may be an undetectable porridge monster living on the far side of the sun orbiting at exactly the same rate as the earth, who we can never see or detect because it is always hidden from us, unless it decides one day to stretch out its essential porridgieness and say hello. That does not mean it is the creator of anything, it certainly has demonstrated no god like abilities and chances are is not a deity at all. Without being the proclaimed God in one form or another then this undetectable god of whom you speak has more in common with the porridge monster than with any deity of any ever. So think of it as a potential god at all? This is basically an argument from ignorance fallacy, "You have not revealed yourself yet, therefore you are God." You post taken as a whole does not paint you as a Gnostic Atheist, just as an atheist plain and simple with a bit more than the average imagination.

LenHazell53 comments on May 10, 2018:
Yes one can never be 100% sure of any contention being true or false under all circumstances. For example under laboratory conditions, a group renowned scientist could leave milk and cookies at the base of a chimney in a house where "Nice list" children live every christmas eve for one hundred years, and then measure the resulting consumption and monitoring the following morning. IF in 1% of cases, the cookie is nibbled and the milk sipped, IF on 1% of the cases a jolly fat man with a sack is recorded coming down the chimney and making off with the Blu-ray player, it still does not prove the existence of Santa, (as a mystical being or as a burglar) is proves there are unaccounted variables. Because of such a study I am not going to leap at the one % and start becoming an ardent Santa-ist again hoping to be, one day, a good enough boy to wake up one December 25th with a stocking full of goodies in the fireplace, and I am certainly not going to reinstall a coal fire and chimney for especially this purpose as an act of faith! “You can never be sure 100% that there isn’t a ” is the argument from desperation, the last act of a drowning man clutching at a razor blade. It is the scientific equivalent of the sulking spoiled kid, sticking out a pet lip, stamping a foot and sulking because they can't get their own way.
I can relate.

LenHazell53 comments on May 9, 2018:
-I have a friend; we met at seven years olds, went through school together, faced all kinds of problems and were as close as siblings. We saw each other through our divorces; we were godparents to each other's children. Then after a bad time in her life she joined the born again Christians, within a week they had convinced her that I was the devil, was trying to take her from God and drag her to hell, and that she could never be happy if I were a part of her life and that they were her only friends. I warned her that when the chips were down they would desert her; she called me a liar and a fool. I heard nothing from her for two and a half years, then a little while ago she got in touch, during an operation to remove a cataract from her eye, it was discovered that she had a brain aneurysm. It has been caught early and she should be fine after a minor operation. She went to her church terrified and asked for help, they offered "thoughts and prayers", she asked for support and a lift to hospital they offered "thoughts and prayers", she asked that someone dog sit her pets and come visit her in hospital, every one was busy but "thoughts and prayers". I spent the day with her, comforted her, accompanied her to see her surgeon for reassurance and bought her a coffee. She is fine and ready for the operation at the end of the month. It cost me a couple of hours and the price of a Starbuck's. MY friend is back and is free of those parasites, according to who, god sent me to her in her time of need, but who she must now reject again since I have not taken the "Obvious" call to salvation her illness offered me. Even she was disgusted by this and is seriously listening to why I am an atheist and why she might want to re-evaluate her church.

After a time she began discussing online a number of Issues with erotic scenes in my writing, these discussion became very detailed and deeply explored the nature of erotica. She spent time making suggestions, editing and helping me better understand the way women read romantic and erotic fiction. on night she became flustered and finally she admitted she was using these discussions to pleasure herself. I'll admit that even though I was an unwitting party to it, I was both flattered and embarrassed, to this day I'm not sure if this was cybersex or not.

It is pretty much a catch all platitude Is god being invoked to bless the continent? Is the speaker simply hoping god will bless the American people, as many say god bless as a salutation? Is it an insistence that a god bless America as opposed to anything else blessing it, the devil for example? Or an instruction to god to bless America as opposed to the UK, France or god forbid Russia? Or is it just the political speakers Amen, so we know they have finished waffling and we should all applaud now like performing seals on steroids? Who can say?

Came as an unwanted shock I can tell you. It's weird because as a young man I was always the one who got friend zoned, "I like you but not in that way" and the classic "I would but you're too nice." Shlain seems to conveniently forget that reading and writing were not universally available to the majority of people until the latter half of the 19th century, only to the elite, and yet misogyny existed and flourished anyway, and that when literacy flourished it was only then that feminism became popular and fought back. He also seems to not notice that all writing systems are not alphabetically based, some are pictographic, such as in ancient Egypt and eastern Asia and yet the same pattern of male dominance rose up there to, based on simple "might makes right" sociology. To me this seems a very dangerous path aimed at encouraging ignorance, demonising education and blaming feminist woes on "clever dick" (excuse the word play) men, when the very thing they are blaming is actually the fuel that drove the equality engine, literacy!
I'll put this here.

If Hitler had been a good man he would never have risen to power. To become a dictator by necessity involves traits that are fundamentally not good. Ruthlessness, the ability to instill hate and fear in others, the ability to rabble rouse, the ability to put ones conscience on hold, the ability to lie convincingly, the ability to scapegoat effectively, nationalism disguised as patriotism and the ability to recognise and reward similar traits in others. Had Hitler risen to power and then changed to be a "good" man he would undoubtedly have met with an unfortunate accident or illness and Eichmann (or someone equally ruthless and ambitious) would have replaced him.

When they and their fellow believers get together and petition (a nice euphemism for bribe, cajole and blackmail) elected legislature in to forcing their twisted morality on to the population as a whole ...I am gonna have a more than problem with them and I am going to do more than argue with them!
The VATICAN is nothing but a bunch of corrupt queers and pedophiles.

Some women use the word as an affectation. It has a troubled and mixed etymological history, but it is generally agreed that a a base level it all relates to having gathered knowledge either by age or study. Most so called witches persecuted at one time or another in history were midwives and herbalist, being put out of business by the churches. Medicine, healing and midwifery was becoming the province of monastic and orders of nuns, and frankly they did not want the competition. Today it seems to be used as a catch all term for practicing new age and neo pagan women.
I am curious about superstitions amongst people who are not mentally affiliated with a religion.
LenHazell53 comments on May 5, 2018:
Many superstitions had quite practical ideas behind them. Breaking a mirror is 7 years bad luck, because at the time a mirror was probably the most expensive thing in the house Don't walk under a ladder, because you might get something dropped on your head, or knock down the poor sod up there Don't put shoes on the table, because shit tends to spread germs Don't light three cigarettes from one match, because it is likely in war time to give a sniper time to find you and kill you.

Do u think Christianity is bad ? What's your opinion on it
LenHazell53 comments on May 5, 2018:
Christianity is a cult based on the idea that utter submission of life and liberty to an ancient, xenocidal, capricious, jealous fertility god will buy you an eternal life of servitude and condemn everyone who disagrees with you to eternal punishment. What is not to love?
Do you believe in free will?
LenHazell53 comments on May 5, 2018:
Of course we can control and understand what we want, if that was not the case, there could be no acts of deliberate rebellion such as hunger strikes, self sacrifice over coming fear or nature.
What do people in this forum think about "bad" words?
LenHazell53 comments on May 5, 2018:
There is no such thing as a "Bad" word, word is just a symbol to signify a meaning. Only the intent with which use a word can be negative or positive and even then a word is nothing until heard, interpreted and reacted to. You are always free to ignore or not listen. The meaning and impact of words alters too over time. Uttering Strueth, bugger or blimey would have at one time carried a blasphemey charge, now few people even know what they mean, other than as silly "swear" word replacements
Christian teachings warn against worshiping false idols.

Yes this is why the protestants dreamed up modern Trinitarian ism and why the Catholics rewrote the Ten Commandments and took out the one about worshiping idols. New improved churchifying folks with added platitudinousness

The other prime example of this is that if Hitler accepted Jesus on his deathbed he would be in heaven where as everyone he had killed would be burning in Hell. The forgiveness by grace is the ultimate religious get out clause.
We have had two very famous very sick children lately Charlie Guard and Alfie Evans.
LenHazell53 comments on May 5, 2018:
This has become typical of British society now, the lack of trust in professional people when they do not agree with you is ludicrous. Yes a doctor can make a mistake, which is why any doctor will offer a second opinion from another doctor, however asking a doctor for second opinion from a Priest is an insult. It is like a mechanic telling you you need a new gearbox and you saying no because you aromatherapist has sprinkled lavender oil on the clutch. In a case where every single doctor has told you your child is effectively dead, and is only alive and in pain because of life support, saying no keep them alive and suffering based on nothing but the fact that the person objecting is a parent is an act of cruelty you would be prosecuted for it were a dog and not a child. We have to learn to have trust again in our health professionals with nearly a decade of training behind them and huge amounts of experience, and not doubt everything they say on principle, or on the say so of so called holy men.
Have any of you met a "Creationist"?
LenHazell53 comments on May 5, 2018:
Yes a friend of my daughter, ( alay preacher with a quite powerful civil service position,) one evening he got very upset when during an otherwise innocuous conversation I made a joke about Christians believing the world to be only 6000 years old. He went very quiet, his wife put her head down and we were all treated to a fifteen minute lecture on how ignorant and bigoted "Darwinists" are, he then excused them both and told my daughter she was welcome, but they would not visit her house again if we were present, and that for her own spiritual well being she should consider what kind of relationship she wanted with us. I was utterly "gobsmacked" for want of a better word, by the arrogance and stupidity of such a seemingly educated man.
All relationships have ups and downs.
LenHazell53 comments on May 5, 2018:
MY first marriage ended badly, when I was in my early twenties after five years. The marriage and relationship was all totally on her terms, I was isolated from everyone, family friends to such an extent, that later, I realised I was subject to cultish brainwashing techniques. Ultimately the relationship collapsed on her terms too, for reason I won't go in to, she found someone better able to provide for her wants. I was left with literally no one and nothing, even my relationship with my immediate family never fully recovered, they saw me as having deserted them, and I felt they abandoned me (my brother I believe even had an affair with my ex behind my back). Afterward it took five years of therapy, new friends and getting my head straight to come to the conclusion that you cannot actually rely on anyone other than yourself, that you have to stay strong in will, protect yourself, be assertive and never submissive. Marriage and a relationship (be it romantic or friendship) is a partnership, if one or the other is constantly trying to get the upper hand, it is not going to work in the long term. Mutual Love is and has to be the basis, it must be based on honesty, trust and determination.
I’m curious about whether and how people set age parameters for potential romantic partners.
LenHazell53 comments on May 5, 2018:
My rule of thumb is that if someone is dating or married to someone young enough to be their child, it is a bit creepy. I don't doubt that their are legitimate and strong relationships built on the so called "May to December" age gap, but I cannot see what they can possibly have in common. Years ago I dated a woman eight years younger than me and it was not a pleasant experience, though we liked one another, she understood none of my terms of reference, nor I hers, our tastes in films, music, culture were vastly different and so were our expectations of one another. I can only imagine a 16+ age difference would be so much worse.
A friend sent me this.
