How to get two over 6 ft tall teenagers to do chores around the house?
LenHazell53 comments on Jul 1, 2019:
If understand you correctly your daughter is 43 years old. She has made her life choices and is presumably happy with them. You may not agree with them, but honestly it is none of your business, unless the slob actually physically assaults your daughter, then be there to offer her a bolt hole. If you interfere, you will not be thanked for it and if you daughter wants to see you, have her come and visit you, tell her at your age you are not willing to camp out for the privilege of being ignored. If she wants to visit you tell her there is no room for her boys, they will have to fend for themselves for a few days. Just my suggestion.

I love the way "learned theologians" try to waffle their way around this one, basically by saying because it is simple to understand, it cannot possibly mean what it says, because if it did it would mean God was a right bastard and though the rest of the bible seems to back that up, ITS NOT TRUE!. So it is one of those verses that mean exactly the opposite of what it says, because.... it has to.

Tory leadership. Which do you think is/are the most important of quality(ies) for a leader.?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 28, 2019:
It depends upon from which perspective you are coming to the question. The requisite qualities for being a Tory leader are totally different from those required to be a competent leader of a country. For example in order to be a Tory leader one must by necessity hold certain views and priorities that are completely at odd with being humane, since right wing political philosophy is entirely pragmatic, materially based and denies rights to the individual when they come into conflict with the financial, economic or the state. Like wise much Tory doctrine is based upon the idea of trickle down economics theorizing that the financia well being of the elite will result in financial well being of all. This is a proven fallacy but is no the less an almost "sacred" doctrine of right wing political thinking along with the idea that people are a near infinite resource however money and property are not and so should be given superior legal status. Left wing thinking begins with the general doctrine that the well being of all citizens will by necessity result in a better society for all, that life outweighs property and that there is no default criteria to define a social elite other that achievement for the benefit of all. Therefore a "good" Tory leader will offer a package of policies and assure it is what you want and expect you to trust him/her. A "good" leader will look at what is needed and provide it and then will bring about a situation where your wants may be earned fairly.

LenHazell53 comments on Jun 26, 2019:
It has been my experience that you can provide examples both theoretical and practical, but the ultimate source of your child's moral and ethical system will that which they decide on for themselves. It is subjective, if you have something to offer that only a few others can do, you can be as unsociable or socially inept as you like and you will still do well in life. In the UK most restaurants and retail outlets display a sign that say "The management reserve the right to refuse service" If this sign is displayed and some one is asked to leave they must do so or the police may be called NO reason should be given. If a reason IS given and that reason is illegal (prejudicial) then it may be contested later in court unless the objection is withdrawn, but if NO reason is given it is perfectly legal for an owner to ask anyone to leave their premises so long as it is not designated a public space.

I'm afraid that this expression "Cocked and loaded" is NOT a mistake, though I doubt Trump knew that. It is a musketry term, to be cocked and loaded was the response give by musketeers when demanded of by their bombardier "Phalanx Ready?" Three ranks One standing and loading with powder and shot having just fired One kneeling waiting to fire loaded but not cocked (Pulling back the spring load flint striker) One kneeling ready to fire cocked and loaded on the command "Volley"

Since the correct pronunciation of this word is according to various dictionary sites Kwanked, I am tempted to wonder if this the word from which the word Wanker evolved. Wank, wanker and wanked have long been an etymological mystery, having seemingly sprung in to existence spontaneously somewhere between 1880 and 1940, as a military term for a despised enemy prisoner, however it would make sense if being quanked was blamed on excessive qwanking? Dialect in time dropping the Qu (K ) and adjusted giving us wanked?

Does being an atheist go hand in hand with liberal politics or are some of you Tory voters ?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 24, 2019:
Being atheist mainly comes from a need for proof, evidence and reason. It is very hard not to notice the similarities between right wing politics and religion, the expectation that you will defer to the judgment of your "betters" without argument, the idea of a master race/chosen people, elitism, the idea of returning to a golden age, knowing your place and being content with it on the promise of "Jam tomorrow", rampant corruption being accepted as the natural state of things, black and white thinking, rallying to symbols, etc, etc, etc. So often there is a noticeable correlation if not a causative connection between the rejection of religion and right wing thinking.

A pen pal introduced me to a new word, which she mispelled and it almost blew up the spell checker.
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 20, 2019:
This is exactly the type of devolved word I spoke of earlier in another post. Almost every phobia is defined by the use of the word phobos Greek for fear or irrational fear and an appropriate Greek root for the source of the fear. Using this perfectly simple linguistic technique we have the basis for every named phobia with two exceptions Coulrophobia (fear of clowns) since the Greek word for clown is gelotopoiós simply writing clown in Greek text as Kloorn was considered preferable. Nomophobia However is ridiculous because it is an actual existing Phobia Nomos νόμος means the Law, therefore Nomophobia is **irrational fear of the law,** *not of loosing you Mobile phone.* Nomo here is obviously a contracting of No Mobile. Because no one has even made a serious try to create a real word, just a pathetic pun. So far as I can see Kinitochanophobia (though actually meaning fear of the loss of mobility) can be read as the "fear of the loss of my mobile," though I might prefer foritóphonophobia fear of "losing my portable noise maker."
OK.

How closely tied are pride and confidence, in your opinion?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 17, 2019:
It is hard to say as the word pride has changed meaning over the centuries and is these days inextricably entwined with the word proud, with which it has no etymological connection at all but is used interchangeably with, especially between Proud and prideful. Pryde or prȳte originally as has been pointed out elsewhere was a sin, akin to snobbery or epicaricacy, it meant to judge yourself by your possessions, success, wealth or natural attributes by comparing them favourably to other people and deriding those other for their presumed inferiority or misfortune. It was considered in almost every society to be so despicable that it almost always was punishable by death. Among the native Americans a warrior who was so prideful of his skills or possessions, would be taken, sown up in a sack with a skunk or wolverine and thrown in the river (some times his nose would be cut off first.) Confidence on the other hand is a private thing, an understanding of ones own limitations and when not to exceed them.

It is even more pronounced with cats who are sly little buggers that will manipulate humans without their even knowing.

How any woman can continue to embrace Christianity is beyond me.

Similarly I am both appalled and confused by so called "Gay Christians" Women, at least not in general, are not commanded by their own religion to stone themselves to death, yet not only do we have gay Christians but gay priests, bishops and even arch bishops. Go figure.

Tyranny cannot thrive without a public bogey to point at and blame for all the natural ill that the world is heir to. At one time or another it has been the Jew homosexual women foreign people slaves Single parents the handicapped Green eyed people left handed people Cat owners dog owners WITCHES!!! and anyone who disagrees with an accepted and known truth no matter how stupid it is Fear leads to a demand for freedom from for which freedom too much be sacrificed, but of course fear never goes away, it just changes clothes.

You are basically advocating for what used to be called Secondary Modern Schools. Up until the early 1970's all children in the UK forced to take an exam call the "11+" at teh age of 11, on the strength of this their future schooling was determined. Those who passed the 11+ won a place in Grammar School, where the expectation was to graduate to white or Blue collar professions and careers or go on to college and university. The curriculum was based on academics and perfecting of essential skills such as high quality writing, mathematic, foreign and classical languages and the sciences. Those who failed attended Secondary Modern, where the curriculum was geared to preparing boys for apprenticeships and girls for housewifely proficiency. English language rather than literature was taught, arithmetic instead of maths and physical education formed the core of the school, with a choice of woodworking, metal working or domestic science (Cookery and housework) making up the rest of the lessons. The two tier system was abolished in 1975 and replaced with comprehensive schools a decision lamented for years and now replaced again with technical academies and specialist school.
