Reminds of the time in my youth when My brother and I attended a real Ale night, after consuming about ten pints of delicious beers we treated ourselves to a ham sandwich and then began drinking again. The following morning the inevitable result saw many calls to Ralph on the big white . Later in the day my bro rang me up to ask if I had been sick as a dog, I replied yes and was told "Yeah me too, I think those ham sandwiches were off"

There is a great urban legend about Neil Armstrong. Apparently after the one small step announcement as he set for on the moon, Armstrong can on recording be heard to mutter "Good luck, Mr. Gorsky" as he took his first steps. For years it was debated who "Mr. Gorsky" might be and during the writing of Armstrong's biography it was discovered the Gorsky family lived next door to the Armstrongs during Neil's childhood. Their grandson related to the biographer that his grandfather had been fond of relating the story that Neil must have overheard his wife yelling at Grandpa out of the open bedroom window on various occasions that she would perform oral sex for Mr Gorsky when *" that damn kid next door walks on the moon"* Hence "Good luck, Mr. Gorsky"

Though all of these are pronounced Guy now after the standardization of movable type many letters and variations on vowels faded form use or were replaced with the 26 letters we have today. Foremost amongst this was the replacement of the the old letter "Thorn" þ prononced "th" it was in printed text replaced with the letter "y" this is why Thee is often mistakenly pronounced Ye and why Thou became You. Guy therefore from the time predating printing could have been pronounced Gee Goo-yu Gie Goye Goeth Goth and of course guy among others Now all are pronounced guy.

LenHazell53 comments on Mar 11, 2019:
Alexander's cutting of the Gordian Knot is often used (by political extremists) as a metaphor for the dubious doctrine of "Might makes Right" since the whole point of Gordius' test was to find a wise, problem solving king, Alexanders solution was to declared that wisdom is nothing compared to force of arms and that there is no problem that cannot be solved by a simple act of destruction. It is also the origin of the modern phrase "Cutting through the red tape" a favourite maxim of Trumpty Dumpty that has proven intractably false for him, since the constitution of the USA is made of stronger red tape than his little sword is capable of severing.

Two beggars are sitting side by side on a street in Rome.
LenHazell53 comments on Mar 10, 2019:
Reminds of the tale of the two beggars in Rome taken in to the Vatican at Christmas for a charity dinner with the pope. After a fine meal, the pope offers the two men a drink. "What do you drink your Holiness?" asks one of the unfortunates. "I enjoy an occasional small glass of Creme De Menthe." says the pope. "We'll join you in one of them then says the other." The three are given a glass each and as they sip it they contemplate the flavour. "It's like drinking humbugs," thinks one. "Like alcoholic tooth paste." thinks the other. The pope bids them good night and goes off to bed, telling them to make themselves at home and for Christmas night to help themselves to what ever they want. The two vagrants decide to indulge in a little more drinking, but since it is the popes hosptiality to stick with his preference for libation. After consuming two bottles of Creme De Menthe between them, they are drunkenly shown to bed. The next morning they wake to the mother of all hangovers. As they come down to breakfast and parcels of new clothes and a few Euros to see them on their way one of the hobo's asks his host "Holy Father, is that minty wine the only thing you drink?" "It is indeed my son" replies the pope. "Good bye and may god go with you." Out side on the steps the one tramp turns to the other and says. "If that is his tipple, it is no wonder they have to carry him about in that damn chair."

LenHazell53 comments on Mar 8, 2019:
schadenfreude is the basis of a lot of comedy, and is the set up for tragedy when misfortune evolves in to actual pain or death. I can also morph in to pathos and empathy if handled correctly, taking away the guilt and replacing it with shame with the addition of only a little more information. It is a useful tool for the writer and a social learning experience. The current trend of trying to curb and eliminate emotions that "might cause offence" or "trigger" people will rob a whole generation or more of that societal education and lead to unforeseen consequences that are likely to be horrific

LenHazell53 comments on Mar 7, 2019:
Jesus is not a name it is a title, meaning a Joshua, a common epithet for those claiming to be the foretold messiah, Jesus is just the Latin term. At least nine people around the supposed time of the carpenter of Nazareth used the title, and some of their exploits are weaved in to the Biblical Jesus myth. Two of them are mentioned in the scriptures, those being Jesus Barabbas and "John" the baptist for who there is a lot more historical evidence but none of it relating to a Jesus of Nazareth, however several historical non biblical stories attributed to the Baptist are in the gospels attributed to The Nazarene. The church of John still exists in the form of the Iraqi Mandaeans and in the more controversial claims of of the Alpha Galates organisation and several of its many schisms.
Why do people swear that being atheist/agnostic makes you morally bankrupt?
LenHazell53 comments on Mar 7, 2019:
Because they base their reasoning on the false premise that without the threat of Hell and the salvation of Christ, you cannot possibly be responsible for your own moral code. It is of just another veiled threat to back up Religion's unsubstantiated claims of being the guardian of right and wrong.

LenHazell53 comments on Mar 5, 2019:
I used to believe that a person had to be either gullible or self deluded to believe in religion, in time I have modified m opinion. I know good, talented and intelligent people who have a blind spot when it comes to godbothering and like to think of themselves as (insert religion here) but actually follow only a few select doctrines and don't even know what their holy books advocated. There is a big difference between these ordinary decent people who happen to identify one way or another and the fundamentalist shit heads who let religion and doctrine rule their lives and actions, commit atrocities in the name of a god or gods and are in fact deranged. The casual believer thinks no less of me for my atheism and respects my choices, hates almost no one and has no slavish devotion to a church or whatever. Though my respect for that sort of person is lessened by their attributing their possitivity so some sky daddy I can still hold them in esteem for the good they do, unlike the fanatic for who I have no respect or trust at all.
