I love the study of the origin of man. I rely on archeology, dig sites, and geologist to date the finds, rather than written records. Man is much older than any written records.

Louder is not better. Louder promotes reaction. Gentle discussion promotes thoughtful response. Busting glass, burning cars are like shooting stars. Civil dialogue are like phases of the moon, and lend pause to consider again.

I figure that many folks change and learn as they walk on life's path, so I don't demean, or judge people based on what they believe. If they don't quarrel with me then its all good.

Is it "shallow" to care about looks when it comes to picking a partner?
Leutrelle comments on Jan 31, 2018:
People are attracted to what pleases them. It is biological, and something that is beyond our control. Personality is another powerful factor. If you meet someone that is physically attractive, but there is a personality conflict then there is little chance of a relationship. Dating is complex, and it is rarely easy.

What are your thoughts on the quote?
Leutrelle comments on Jan 30, 2018:
My take on it is he doesn't give a damm if he offends anyone, and it's their problem if they are offended. It is troubling to me. It is possible to bring offense, and not have meant to. But does that not also mean that we should examine our own words just to see if we did indeed offend?
Does this bother you?

HAVE ANY OF YOU HAD A CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH BIG FOOT? I have and would like to share experiences.
Leutrelle comments on Jan 29, 2018:
I was hiking with a friend, and a Green Beret in the Klamath river area in California. We were doing an 80 mile hike on a closed logging road. I was bored with walking on the road, and decided we should take a well traveled trail, that ended up being on a deer trail. We hiked for hours, and we ended up on a very steep side of a hill over looking the Lower Klamath River. The trail was fine, but it was getting dark, and it was starting to rain. It was to steep to camp. We put our military ponchos on and covered or packs, and continued to hike. I had been trained by Chuck my Green Beret friend, but my school buddy not so much. It was getting dark and we desperately needed to find a spot to pitch the tent. We used bushes to help pull ourselves straight up, and kept climbing until we hit another trail, and we did this couple more times. Lights were not very good in those days, so we walked by using the light for a second or two at a time. We were cold, wet, hungry, and my friend was scared, but we had no choice but to continue walking. Around midnight we finally found a place to camp, and it was a perfect spot. We had lots of fire wood, but it was wet. My Scout training kicked in, an I found some pitch, and and some cedar tender under some dead fall. With Chuck around I wasn't to worried, but he stayed out of it just to see how much I had learned. We built a small fire that struggled as we hoped for it to burn. As the fire burned we kept adding wood, and in about an hour we had a pile of wood an small logs shaped like a teepee burning brightly. Then we heard a very loud sound that was as much howl as it was growl, and it was so loud. The creature howled several times, and I felt the hair on my neck raise, and put even more wood on the fire. I had spent much time in the woods, and this was a sound that I had never heard before. I heard cougar and bear, and this sound was nothing like. It was much louder and eerie. This creature made that sound several times. We heard the the sound of several thumps land near our camp, and we were now on top of the mountain, and the ground was flat all around. It sounded like large rocks that crashed through the under growth and then hit the ground with a thump, and then it was silent. We used the abundant heat of the fire to dry our clothes, tent and sleeping bags. We ate some chocolate and sardines for dinner. we were nearly out of water. For the next couple of hours we heard large trees falling, and crashing has they hit the. There was no wind, it had to be this creature. There was a strong musty spell in the air. We were at least 40 miles from anyone. Chuck was sure that we had gotten to close to this creatures area. We didn't sleep much that night, but we each had the feeling that we had encountered BIG ...

If you were asked to teach a class of your choosing, what would the subject matter be?
Leutrelle comments on Jan 29, 2018:
I would also like to teach a class on knife making, and knife sharping. Most kitchen knives are very dull, and knowing how to put a new edge, and maintaining that edge would keep those knifes in service for many years.
If you were asked to teach a class of your choosing, what would the subject matter be?
Leutrelle comments on Jan 29, 2018:
I would like to teach a class on basic auto repair, and maintenance. There are many jobs that the average person could do that could save them money, and keep their auto running longer. A person could save a fortune just replacing their own brakes!
Nutrition. Do you trust the experts? What do you believe to be true about health & nutrition?
Leutrelle comments on Jan 28, 2018:
Our ancient ancestors relied heavily on meat, and animal fat. They ate berries, and what grain they could gather or grow. If they lived in a part of the world where fruit was abundant then they ate a lot of fruit. If there was an abundant fish resource the they exploited fish for food. They ate bugs, snake, possum, raccoon, crustaceans of all sorts, and any animal you could think of. They ate various roots, nuts, acorns, and any plant that could be eaten. They weren't picky, and they would basically eat anything that would fill the hole. One thing they didn't have was refined sugar, or plant based oils. Much of the food the masses eat is fried, and sugar is abundant in many foods. Processed food is the big culprit in the American diet. That includes the flour from which our bread is made, snack foods, all boxed easy to fix foods, and you get the idea. If we we cook our meals from basic ingredients roots, grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts, berries, meat, eggs, and fish we will be on the right track. It take much more effort to prepare the food, but it would improve our health as a nation by a significant amount.
I hate those people who keep telling me to "live in the now.
Leutrelle comments on Jan 28, 2018:
This why I love riding my Harley. When I am riding it is in the now. I experience everything second by second. I am sure because if I was in bad mood, or had something bothering me before the ride, I have a new perception after the ride. And I wasn't thinking about anything but the ride.

Leutrelle comments on Jan 27, 2018:
My motorcycle is my ticket to living in the now. In 10 minutes I am in another world. My senses are heighten. Barbecues smell wonderful, and scenery is colorful, the bends in the road are artful, and the wind at my face is faithful. I love the power, and the connection through the bike to the road. I feel more alive, and yet I feel the presence of death following closely. I do like the looks that women give, and with a pleasant smile I will return, to home once again.
Millions of Americans Believe God Made Trump President

Politics is always about illusion. Every President has there faithful follows. Jimmy Carter ran on being born again, because that was a popular movement. Regan was a movie star. Hopefully I won't become more out of touch more than I already am. I depend on young people to help me operate my iPhone, McBook, my Fire Stick, and even my thermostat. I expect mild shock that increases in duration and voltage when I fail to put my seat belt on:) I think maybe there will be even smaller and greater quality sound systems. Cars that drive on there own, and then how will the government replace their DUI income? Change will come and I hope it helps us with health issues, so I can live long enough to see all the change.

Some times the broccoli, and asparagus is in decent shape, and I add that to my diet. Bacon is hard to resist, and I like eggs. I enjoy a good T bone and a New York Strip grilled on a wood fire about 3-4 times a year. Hamburger goes a long ways in my house. I have to watch my carbs, so noodles, and bread are out. I get by with a little help from friend -- Meat.

Oh ya. Man have you ever said a mouth full! I especially like, "I am the home's owner". All of our stuff owns us more than we own them. You are a sage my young friend. We all become slaves to the great ecopolitico-machine. I didn't realize this until about my early sixties, and that was not very long ago. If I was single I would get rid of all but the essentials and live in an RV, and live in 2 or 3 long term RV parks a year, and enjoy life. I could get rid of maintaining things by 75%. Simplify, and enjoy life more.
