I have tell you Jeff that even though I am not a smoker, and never was, I am addicted to tobacco. I use smokeless tobacco of the brand name Skoal. I put a pinch under my lip, and it very addictive. Second hand smoke really bothers me even out side because of my COPD. For my own good I will push the button, but this type of use of tobacco only harms me. So I have a conflict of interest for taking that right to use tobacco from others. When I use nobody even knows that use. I don't even have the urge to spit. I am so use to this habit that I don't produce the excess of saliva that a beginner would. So I guess no I can't push the button because it be for selfish reasons.

I think the role deference between man and woman got started long before civilization. The physical strength of a man for millions of years was a very valued commodity. Throwing a spear, packing meat, protecting the tribe, and etc. I think women were a highly valued. They gave birth, child care, kept the fire going (an important task), gathered the plant food, and even hunted if the men were injured. It was simple because people did what they were good at, for the good of the tribe. As technology increased women could do more. The bow made it much easier to hunt, and defend the tribe. At some point men began to abuse their power, and we end up with what we have today. Even the first autos were hard for women to operate before invention the electric starter. Now days we are flooded with technology, and there really is no task that woman can not do, some women can perform better than some men. Just my 2 cents. I thought I would introduce another thread of thought.

I think walking is good medicine. I walk a mile and half everyday, and after it becomes routine I find that I have some thing that I am looking forward to. It really does help your brain produce natural chemicals that help with depression a subject that I a quite familiar with. It also give me time to think, sort things out, or plan for future events. I am starting a two mile walk tomorrow. A new routine:)

Lately because I moved I realized just how much shit I had. I got rid of much, but I still have to much. So I am with you. Since I am retired I think way more before I purchase something. The question I ask my self is do I really need this item? I don't know for sure yet, but I think this will help. Plus since money is no longer a renewable resource at this point, that also helps. I have never thought of my self as an emotional eater, but I did like my beer and whisky. Now that I have to watch my sugar, and from your post I may need to rethink this. I now crave something bubbly, so its diet what ever, so maybe I am an emotional eater, only now it not near as good. Great post. Seldom does any one date man's age in the millions there is so little evidence, but there is some. I don't remember the age, but they did find a sea shell that had a human face carved that was dated quite old. Sticks would be the obvious first tool, but there are probably not many if any around. He was 13 years old, and my son came to visit, said "Dad it's time to put Buddy down". I knew he was right, but that thought had never come to mind. I fed him chopped steak as his last meal, and waited for the right moment, and shot him with large bore rifle in the back of the head. He didn't know he was going to die, nor did he know he died. His death was instant. I built a large pyre, and cremated him. There were a few small bones left that I kept. My daughter came and helped build the pyre, and place his body. My thoughts on morality are we have some religious influence wether we are religious or not. I thought as Xtain that it was wrong to think that the nonreligious people couldn't be good folks, and represent good morals. I think people tend to copy what ever good they see, and some copy bad behavior because that is mostly what they see. So our family, friends, and media all give clues on what is good, and then we emulate what we see as good.

My thoughts are to provide Motel 6 style housing. A clean room, with a door lock, shower, bed, and clean clothes. Add to that security, cafeteria, local phone, address, doctor, and medical supplies, and it would give them a chance to find work, and get on their feet again.

I have only been a member a short while, and the way I found the sight was by typing agnostic. I clicked and joined. It has been my impression that there are at least as many atheists as agnostics which I would expect, and have no problem. A Mind-Bending Translation of the New Testament

I thought the NT was originally written in koine Greek, but I could be wrong. I have seen Aramaic translations, but thought they translated from the koine Greek. Now I have to research. -- I did some fact checking. The earliest manuscripts of the NT were written in koine Greek. By the time the first books of the NT were written, the common language used by the Jewish people was koine Greek. Why did the Jewish people speak koine Greek? It is because they under Roman rule, and because Alexander the Great many people through out the known world spoke Greek, and was even adopted by the Romans for communications. Theses early manuscripts were then translated to Aramaic, Slavic, Ethiopian, Coptic and others as time passed. The Greek translation of the Hebrew OT is called the septuagint. As languages and readers changed the manuscripts were translated. Just to make my rambling clear the earliest NT Manuscripts were written in koine Greek.

I think beliefs are culturally influenced and that they are not a choice. There seems to be pockets of religion. Like in parts of India they are Hindu, other parts Buddhist, and still others Muslim and a mixture of each within the groups. Maybe after a person is influenced by a girl friend, nice family, workplace, and are introduced to a new idea of belief they could make a choice to believe a different religion. But I still think they were influenced to make that choice.

I used to water witch and was told by my pastor that I shouldn't. That of course didn't stop me. People kept asking me so I continued to practice. That is a tough one. I've been agnostic for many year, and after being use to the church community I find I still haven't filled that void. I am looking into joining an astronomy club, both to learn, but also looking for community.

Should you be fully able to defend your atheism/ agnosticism ?

I found interesting that you commented that gods are man made. That is my favorite topic and subject for study.
