Once they become used to it you can increase the duration starting with single strokes and things will move faster as time goes on. Remember it is all about gaining their trust. @Lauren Likely the grey was left behind or turned out by someone who didn't want him/her anymore and the Orange may well be a feral from what you are saying. I have two cats one was part of a litter who were put up for adoption at a local pet store he is pure black and now 15 years old as well as being diabetic. The other was born feral but made the decision to become an indoor only cat when she was at least 9 months old, under nourished and very small. She entered the house when I held the door open for her because I had gained her trust and fell in love with my older cat and he decided to keep her. If you want to be able to touch and hold them you have to gain their trust and the way to start is when you feed them stay present and gradually move closer. As time goes on gently touch them when they are eating then quickly more your hand back so they realize you aren't trying to grab or control them soon after they calm down you can give them a single stroke but still move back right away. After you have that trust level things will move faster but this can easily take months of patience to achieve on your part.

Some anteaters have trophy wives, some have trophy rooms.
