@Bierbasstard Thank you very much for taking the time to explain that to me. Of course you're right, it is a problem. I do like the blocking feature and I think it's necessary, but I would hope it would be used as a last resort. I only use it when I've seen enough comments from a member that I've concluded that I have no interest in what they have to say, never on the basis of a single comment. The people I usually block are the intentional troublemakers because they are not here for the same reason I am. For the record, I have never seen you post anything offensive. A lady here just blocked me because even her bio admitted that she was extremely mentally ill but she was expecting the members here to meet her needs rather than seeking actual professional help and I nudged her in that direction. She was seeking pity to avoid taking steps to help herself. I'm at the point that I don't worry about stuff I can't change anymore but I certainly understand how this effect of blocking troubles you. I also think you're right that a cure may not be practical. Anyway, thanks for your time, I sure appreciate being better informed now.

Great name! I like non-people names for pets, not sure why. Did Sweet Pea's leg heal up okay? I wish I had a nephew like yours. Not too long after I found the tail in the garage, I had gone out to the garage to look for the cat. He was not in his basket but something else was. I thought it was another cat so I shook the basket and a raccoon popped his head up. I got rid of the raccoon overnight and had the fence mended because as much as I would like to help it, I can't have a raccoon around here. I understand they can climb, but I haven't seen it since. My theory is that the raccoon bit Sweet Pea's tail off and I just can't imagine how painful that was. Probably used up one of his nine lives. Thanks for asking and sharing.

@MyTVC15 That is very generous, thank you. When someone is in need, it is everyone else's responsibility to step up, to the extent that they can. If you don't want to hear anymore from me, that is fair. Medicaid is need-based. Have you reapplied for Medicaid since you became unemployed? Stupid of me not to know that gov offices are closed. Doesn't sound like they have increased their phone operations either. You will have to become an expert at multitasking so that you can get other things done while you are on hold. For now, your job is going to be making phone calls. You don't have any friends or family that you could have regular interaction with if only to ward off isolation? If not, you are not the only one. When your circumstances improve, socializing will become easier for you. Are you taking care of yourself?

@MyTVC15 No apology necessary. Venting is acceptable. I know your situation feels overwhelming but only you can fix it or at least take all the steps necessary to fix it. Here are my thoughts: Above all else is always self-care. Properly eating, drinking, sleeping, exercise and keeping your home decent are critical to physical and mental health. I knew a guy who told me he was so depressed all he ate for 2 years was hot dogs because he had no interest in meal planning. At least he ate. There is no shame in going to the food bank. I have gotten some excellent meals to take home from there. The next step is to solicit the assistance of anyone you know and trust to help in any way they can, if only to listen. The next step is to apply for Medicaid in order to get your medical needs met, as we should all be entitled to. When I have difficulty with a gov program, I go to the local office in person and I assure you, they know I mean business. You must pursue that tax refund and those unemployment benefits until you get them. Everything else can wait until these things are accomplished. You hear the saying "one day at a time" but some days it is one hour at a time and some days it's just one foot in front of the other, but at least you are moving in the right direction. I want to to accomplish at least one productive thing today please.

@phil21 It makes perfect sense. I worked with the same therapist for about 10 years until the pandemic hit. She didn't do much, mostly just listened. But it was a safe place (she was not religious) for me to talk out loud to another person, sometimes about the discrepancy between what I thought and what I felt. Occasionally she would chime in with something of value or cause me to think of something I'd expressed differently. I made so much progress over that period that now I would be embarrassed to admit some of the things I did near the beginning. I could tell her anything and I think she came to know me better than anyone else does. I believe that relationship played a key role in the stability I've achieved. I too, once believed that my life could never get any better. I was wrong.

@Unpretentious Cats have existed longer than coyotes but they are still fair game in the food chain, as is the human animal. It seems to be the killing of birds that troubles you. It troubles me too and I try to discourage it. It seems like the solution here would be to find a way to keep the cats out of your backyard. If a physical barrier isn't possible, there are various tools and products that can be effective.

@Unpretentious I'm sorry you are having such a hard time with this. We have a local non-profit called Friends of Ferals that handles situations like this where the local government authority doesn't. Perhaps someone will help you or at least instruct you. But you are infringing on their territory, not the other way around because cats predate humans by millions of years. Thank you. I've never gone looking for a cat. Mine are essentially all other peoples' discards and that suits me fine. I try not to think about that situation in Australia. I can tell you that I would never even travel to a place that would take such horrifying action. There are experts in this field who could provides alternatives but I haven't studied up on it. In the US, I think spaying and neutering can be cost-prohibitive or appear to be so. It needs to be mandatory and as such provided free of charge by local authorities. But as you say, perhaps even that would be insufficient. I would like to see animals be treated as a civic responsibility rather than entertainment but that will be a long time in coming. In the final analysis, like with everything else, I try to accomplish as much as I can every day and help others including animals as much as I can along the way and at this point I have to be satisfied with that.

@Fernapple There's no reasonable argument against what you've said and you've explained it well. Not to detract from your point, my only quibble is that I don't think such actions are taken mindlessly, nor do they need to be. Here in the US, it is a faction of the conservative element that opposes masking as a freedom issue. My theory is that conservatism is a form of Attachment Disorder in that they have a diminished sense of community, which explains why they don't feel a responsibility to do their part to protect the community by wearing a mask. The very first thing our federal goverment should have done was to issue PPE including masks to all residents and ensure that there would be enough PPE for the foreseeable future. PPE is not cheap and most of it is disposable. Availability may have helped. My point is that mindless submission to an external authority is not desirable and the fundamental problem is selfishness, which is common to other uniquely American problems. They want the full benefit of the community while contributing absolute least.

@Barnie2years I agree a source is preferable as a matter of assessing credibility, but my experience is that online, including this site, most factual allegations including quotations are not referenced properly (especially memes!) and the worst offenders are the conservatives, many of whom don't know how facts are established or understand the significance of evidence. Yesterday some con on here was making allegations against Antifa when the article he linked didn't even mention Antifa. When I called him on it, he continued to insist that it did. That's an old con trick, referencing an article and pretending the article says something it doesn't. I've seen them reference articles that weren't even related to the issue under discussion. In the case of a quotation, the source, date and context are preferable. I don't see anything contentious in your post and I was glad to have the opportunity to read it. Citation is preferable but nothing to get your panties in a bunch over.

For instance, I just saw an ad on Craig's List about a working poor family of five that still doesn't have masks. That's what I'm doing this afternoon.

@Captain_Feelgood Your claim is false and anyone who reads your article will know it. Your Antifa claim has no credibility and you have no integrity. You are a waste of time. Blocked.

Feedback? sure I don't take anything coming out of Bernie's mouth seriously. He is a menace to Democracy, going on individual ambitions pretending to care about people. The most unelectable candidate I have seen in life.

@St-Sinner You claim your views are factual but the ones I read before deciding that the rest were not worth bothering with were unverifiable predictions and the rest didn't reference any supporting evidence. Predictions are not factual and factual claims require evidence. Of all places, this should be a place where people understand what constitutes fact.

Worth watching, thank you. Movements motivate change is an important point. The point that wasn't as obvious is that third party supporters are overlooking the fact that change is incremental because they aren't satisfied with that. But even if a third party candidate won, change would still be...

@skado Perhaps I read in something that wasn't there. Text is such a limited form of communication. Absent tone of voice, there are some comments I don't even understand so I just pass them over. Please forgive me. No one loves Bernie as a politician more than I. The US really shot itself in the foot missing out on him as a leader, and Ralph Nader before him. These are truly great, honest men who dedicated their lives to the public interest and I am heartbroken that they were relegated to the sidelines. Your video identifies movements as influential to progress and I think the undercurrent was that at least for now, this is an important role for third parties. There are only two realistic choices for president right now and Bernie wouldn't be working with Joe, supporting Joe and asking us to support Joe if he didn't believe Joe would act in the best interest of most Americans at least most of the time.
Hello everyone.

Good luck in calling people out but don’t let it affect your sense of self worth. There are some pretty awful people on here Also, I’ve seen men make body positive comments, but turn around and shame on another post. Sometimes it’s not worth the effort Pick your battles is what I’m ...

@Marcie1974 Some of them are not worth engaging. Once I've determined I'm not interested in what someone has to say, I block them so that I don't have to make that deteination a second time. Not very many of those but yes, some real doozies.

@skado Your false equivalency argument has already been debunked ad nauseum so I won't bother to do it again here. Even Bernie himself would disagree with you. You weren't looking for feedback, you were looking for opportunities to bolster your own position. I won't fall for your bait and switch a second time.

@RoboGraham Perhaps another day. The more time I spend here the less work I get done. I am going to have to place a limit on it, sorry.
So antifa folks join in on peaceful BLM marches, then attack the cops to start trouble.

@Captain_Feelgood I did read the story and my link was to show your source's right wing bias. Neither your article nor your quotes implicate Antifa. Stop pretending they do.

@RoboGraham None of those things threaten democracy and the rule of law the way Trump has and increasingly does. His fascism threatens our very way of life and that is what is at stake in this election.
