@RoboGraham The Trump regime has already taken many steps to undermine democracy and the rule of law that if continued will change the fundamental ways this country functions. While I agree that money influences Democrats in a way that it shouldn't, they have never taken any steps or given any indication that they disfavor democracy and the rule of law as the underpinnings of the functioning of America. That is the critical difference at this particular time.

@Fred_Snerd This is a critical time to be talking about the vote and I will be doing a lot of it everywhere I go until democracy is out of the woods. Some people don't want to listen and I respect that. I like these non combative discussions and I truly appreciate your perspective. I am on board theoretically but not always practically. Yes, the Americans who don't want true equality for all terrify me, too. That's why I don't want them to have any power. They would not support everyone having their basic needs met equally but I certainly do. I know it sounds simple but not even everyone agrees on what basic needs are, or worse, that everyone is deserving. Ridiculous I know, but conservatives are only concerned with their own and fuck everyone else. I am not a capitalist and the American dream was never more than a fantasy for many if not most Americans even though they don't know it. I never dreamed that in my lifetime in America a Democratic Socialist would garner the support that Bernie has and it did my heart tremendous good, so to speak. Not terribly surprising that he was crushed by the establishment, but disappointing nonetheless. I have much work to do today so if I drop out of the conversation, please don't be offended.

@RoboGraham Those changes were still incremental in that they didn't happen overnight and that they lay the groundwork for further change. Incremental change occurs in various degrees and provides for the perspective of moving from one condition to another over time, although not necessary long periods of time. Short of revolution, which I'm not necessarily opposed to, realistically change is incremental.

@Fred_Snerd All good points. I'm not sure that most Americans want to establish "true equality for all" but I am sure that this phrase means different things to different people and that may be part of the problem. Look, I just want society to progress and I want to use my vote in the most likely way for that to happen, but at this particular point in time progress may mean ensuring the continuation of democracy and the rule of law. Voting for someone who is not going to win can't do that and may detract from it happening at all.

@RoboGraham I feel similarly, especially with how they locked out Bernie twice. The handling of the pandemic is bad enough, but I do believe that if Trump gets a second term American democracy may well fail and we will be relegated to third world status in terms of a renegade governmental regime no longer subject to control by the people. On the basis of some of things he has done and said already, I think there is a very real possibility that this will be our last presidential election for the foreseeable future if Trump is reinstalled. I respect your decision and you are right that Biden is deeply flawed, I just hope you're not taking our democracy for granted.

@RoboGraham Thank you for answering and for your fair answer. I know that our two party system is failing Americans but for this year's election it seems certain that our president will be Biden or Trump and for that reason, I will vote for Biden.

@TheInterlooper Argument from authority involves opinion, not fact. The APA is the singular authority on the classification of mental illness so their determinations are factual. Anytime someone refers to DTS it is a dead giveaway that they don't know what they're talking about so they rely on falsities. Random people don't just get to make up mental illnesses, there is an extensive and detailed professional protocol in establishing the uniformity and reliability of mental health diagnosis as there must be. I don't expect everyone to know that, at least not until I have explained it to them. On the upside, I credit you for your admissions and the time you took and effort you made to reach them. They will assist you in future arguments and you proved that you are willing to reexamine your own arguments, which will also benefit you. Thank you for your candor. I don't expect the ceasefire to last, but I'm not here to joust. I have argued with and before bigger and badder authorities than anyone here and it's not going to get us anywhere anyway. I admit to becoming less tolerant of bs now and I am in the process of learning how to overlook it as insignificant. It's very nice to have reached the position where the only opinion that matters to me is my own.
