Seeking other seculars for friendship; perhaps more if circumstances permit

I live on Florida's Treasure Coast where churches are as plentiful as convenience stores and not much to do once you get tired of the beach.

I have a wide streak of curiosity and often ask too many questions but life should be interesting right?

Love festivals, museums, cultural events, hiking, biking, geocaching, science fiction, and being nosy.

Message me, people.

I MUST sleep with a crocheted afghan so that I can stick my toes through the holes. I have a shorter one that goes on vacation with me. When I had a boyfriend, there was one at his house. When I had to fly to seattle for my cruise, I took it with me even though I had to sacrifice clothing to get it in there On the rare occasions that I forget to take it or can't, I will not be able to sleep I also cannot stand the feeling of sheets touching my toenails so a piece of the afghan is between my feet and the bed. No top sheet on my bed. Ever. When I was young and had more time, I would turn the top sheep of a set into curtains which I changed when I changed the sheets.

One of my grandchildren but I can't narrow down which one would bother me the most thereby making the deaths of any of the others less. My daughter is diabetic and without insurance so I think of her death from time to time but the incident with the dentist forced to me seriously consider it. My son is an asshole so sometimes I worry that something will happen to him but no more than any other parent would with a child like him My first granddaughter was stillborn and as tragic as that was, I cannot bring myself to think much about the prospect of one of them dying now.

Question 32: What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Dec 9, 2018:
In general, nothing. Context does matter. When I had cancer, I joked about dying but some other cancer patients nor their families found it amusing. Neither did my family for that matter. I was an abused child yet I have made jokes about abusing my kids and grandkids. My brother was killed with a shotgun blast to the upper chest, yet I have made jokes about blowing someone's head off - although not since school shootings became a thing. If I suspect someone will be bothered by those types of jokes for whatever reason, I will abstain. but I suspect it is just my way of dealing with my shit since I rarely make jokes about stuff that hasn't touched my life on a personal level such as the holocaust; genocide; spree killers etc. edited immediately after posting to be more specific about one point

My issue with the santa thing is that we tell our children to avoid strangers and then force them onto the lap of a stranger or force them to hug distant relatives they do not know. Or respond to strangers at the grocery store because that is "polite" Then when they do those hidden camera things to test their children, they're shocked that their kids fell for the stranger's story. I caught a lot of shit from old ladies at the grocery store when I defended my son's refusal to answer well meaning people that wanted to tell him how cute he was. He would look away from them and not respond since he was taught to not talk to strangers

Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 29, 2018:
Teen parents having babies made my early childhood a mixed bag of both misery and unusual experiences. I saw and experienced life on the road with a band and met delightful weirdos but also knew I was an inconvenience. What little affection they had in them was for my younger brother who was sickly both physically and as it turned out later-mentally. I had periods of time with my maternal grandma who adored me whereas my paternal grandma hated my mother and therefor me as well. Again my younger brother got what little she had because he was blonde and blue eyed like that side. My mother's second husband made my and my brother's life a living hell for 7 years. Nuff said I have a relationship of sorts with my mother and her 3rd husband who has been very good to me but they married when I was 16 and gone The aforementioned brother was murdered over 25 years ago and my much younger half brother is a stranger to me. Small wonder I am searching for the other siblings on ancestry and 23. Family is my children and grandchildren
