The only real challenge I have with being single is the boredom that can set in at odd times and solo vacations can often be less fun than a travel mate. I honestly do not know. Last year the opportunity came to go to Alaska and I took it which had me canceling a trip to Alabama. I went to Alabama last month but the death of my brother also had me flying to Ohio unexpectedly so I doubt I will go anywhere for at least a year but I am quasi-planning a return trip to Alaska in a few years. Of course, should I win a chunk of change on a scratch-off, Europe would be a dream trip

As a child we moved a every year or so but as an adult I have lived in 17 different places. More if you count moving back in with my grandmother after breaking up with the first husband several times. I also am not including anywhere I lived less than 3 months as I used to spend summers up north with my first husband. What is odd to me is when I lived in these places: Five between 18 and 23( 9 if you count grandmas house) Five from age 24 to 35 but the last two were a mobile home then a house that we bought. Seven from 40 to current although that was due predominately to the financial aftermath of having cancer and renting rooms from people or living in a hotel at one point. After 50, I have lived in 2 places; an apt I rented when I first came back to my hometown and the house I currently own. Good question. I initially said "not me" when I read it but it made me think.

It's not your house, you can't change the rules or lack thereof of someone else's house. Dysfunctional or not, it is your daughter and son in law's right to live as they wish within the law. If you can't tolerate it, then don't stay there. I know I sound harsh but I had a similar situation with my daughter although the specifics were different and I finally had to accept that I could not change her behavior nor did I have a right to but could only control MY reaction to it. I was furious all the time and was constantly on her about what she was doing wrong to no avail; in fact, the harder I pushed the more she dug in which created misery for everyone.
