Biden was only willing to non consensually "communicate" with women by invading their space/caressing/whatever the heck you call it. He didn't do it to men, and that's paternalism at best, and sexism in the middle, and harassment at the worst. Yeah he's not alone and he's not unusual and he's nowhere near predator level. He's a thoughtless jerk whose behaviors belie his spoken word. So, he's also amassed a huge amount of power over the years, the whole political system is corrupt, and were just choosing between evils here. But I think men are getting better. What's Biden, like a few years older than DT?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lucifer_Principle This guy has some super interesting writings about evolution working on groups/gene pools vs on individuals. Fascinating stuff, but the author himself was obviously a racist who was using his curiosity about why different cultures are the way they are, to fuel his belief system. Hopefully there will be more thoughts on his work, but without the hatred and moral shitshow. Lots of his stuff is available online full text if you're interested.

Dressing for Brad Pitt?
MarkiusMahamius comments on Apr 5, 2019:
It seems like you're reading an awful lot into this. I'm pretty sure none of us know much about why people make the choices they make, and I'd go out on a limb and say that men seem to be extra clueless about women, as a youngster who's looked to older men for guidance. But anyhow, I don't think any of the women I know are dressing based on what they think about movie celebrities. Me, I'm thinking your elaborate story about Brad Pitt is 100% your own world, so your behavior seems really bizarre to people who live in a different world than you. I can't give any thoughts on transitioning from that one, to this one, but I hope you can figure out how to do it.

MarkiusMahamius comments on Mar 30, 2019:
There was a good study about what makes for lasting partnerships, and basically the study backed up all the myths about compatibility, and also all the myths about about differences. It backed up the ideas about spending time together, and also spending time apart. Because, the study found that the only thing that really mattered, was kindness. You can't have a check list for that. Outside of obvious hard limits like smoking (for some people) or way of life issues, I think you are right... you're never going to create the right list, and you're much more likely to find someone you get along with, by evaluating their "way they are". Which means work, in person. The list is just a vague screening tool.

Id like to propose that anyone who posts (groups or forums) more than a post an hour, needs to rank their posts so number one gets released first, number two and hour later, the next an hour after that... And no one can post more than say, 10 things per day. It's incredibly annoying to deal with the groups posts cluttering up the main feed... Totally belies the point of groups... But if we have to know what the cat memes group is up to, at least keep it to a dull roar.
Just curious. Why do people want points here?
MarkiusMahamius comments on Mar 29, 2019:
When you first sign up, you get messages from admin about points and status and levels and privileges . Its not till later you realize how stupid it is. Also admin bothers to maintain a site support forum, but looking back at it, there's post after post about people losing several thousand points at a time (not the little ups and downs that happen when a member quits or such). It sounds like som e off those members are pissed about the points, and some about the lack of response.

If everyone had happiness, then everyone would be the same- and happiness would become mediocrity. Happiness can't exist without some sense of what misery is all about. There is no one who "deserves" that. Self superior new age BS.

Im pretty sure most of us have access to facebook if we enjoy that stuff. Some of us want to escape/ do better I was going to try to answer this, about the onslaught (mostly from a few members) of memes on this site in particular, but there are already lots of great answers here. Worth reading, for actual real live people saying things that are relevant to them. I only want to add that so many "feel good" memes are about having low expectations. E.g. "don't try to be a better person, just be who you are." And though it's less common here then FB, I'll double complain about the guilt trips and compliment-fishing. "Share this if you love puppies" or "I bet this picture of my new garden won't get any likes". We're like Catholics wallowing in our misery and mediocraty.

@steve148 btw id loove to hear about any site with a competent admin, thats not over run with ads and with scammers, isnt heavily moderated by PC police and user lead lynch mobs, and has some semblance of privacy. I can't believe I'm basically saying good things about this site, but here I am. I don't know why admin adds features to this site that don't work, like points that change for no reason, or dating matches that don't makes sense, or agnostic/humanist log ins, or groups that spam other members... But it is what it is. There are some decent pre built social sites that are cheap/free, so the only major overhead would be hiring a good admin team, paying for server space, paying for people to hang out and start in interesting discussions, and paying for advertising. I'm not sure how this site deals with those costs, but it's be great if you find a better version of this site/concept, and let us know.

That being said, I have a day off and I'm drunk so that also "helps". Also Words with Friends is a fucking mess too.

Your permissions on each portal are different (uness you accept the default settings) PLUS if you were responding to someone else's thread who has different settings for each portal, the way you will see their posts, is different on each site. They "own" their posts, so theirmsettings override yours.

MarkiusMahamius comments on Mar 23, 2019:
It's basically unavoidable. There are deep dives you can use on your phone to block some of this geo tracking and data mining, but Google and Yahoo and FB and a zillion content scraping sites are working hard to subvert any attempt you make at not being an advertising target. There are also phones that are specially designed to be harder to "hack" (you have more control over app permissions, encryption, etc...) But they get really hard to use, if you want to use any free social media apps. All of those apps make a living off of selling your info. So the privacy settings on your phone would be in direct conflict with what most of us use phones for.

MarkiusMahamius comments on Mar 23, 2019:
I was wondering about this too. I see huge numbers of posts from a member, (who I'm not following), made to groups I'm not in. I'm thinking when someone creates a group post, than can also "share it" publicly. But I can't respond to those posts because I'm not a member of the group I can't customize my public feed (as far as i know) Because those are public posts (even tho theyre also group posts), the only way (I think) I can stop it, is by blocking that member. And because that member posts so much stuff, if i blocked them, it would really mess up my ability to see and comment on conversations I am involved in, or groups I am involved in, because we do have some overlap. I just want to be able to see other things besides a wall of one members stuff. What am I missing?
