Interesting to read your comments on US presidents. A view from outside of the USA sees Trump as a total embarrassment for the USA but probably did no more harm in the world than previous presidents. As he said, he didn't start a war. Clinton was seen as a good president. So he let a young internee give him a BJ. Big deal. Bush was seen as an absolute disaster. His invasion of Iraq caused the death of hundreds of thousand and destabilised the area and gave rise to ISIS. He and Blair should be in the Hague on a war crimes trial.

Moravian replies on Jan 12, 2021:
@VineetHonkan I don't normally respond to people who resort to childish name calling but you are relatively young so I will ignore it. I am interested in your definition of racism. Certainly we all have to be careful not to repeat racist terms accidentally but do you hate or fear people with a different skin colour or ethnicity?. Seems a bit illogical to me. I support my national football team and cheer for Andy Murray in a tennis tournament. Does that make me racist ? A well known premiership footballer got in to big trouble for using the word "Negrita" in a text to a friend. Apparently in his culture in South America is is a term of endearment, I was brought up without any religious indoctrination either for or against unlike many of the members here so I hope I can view the subject dispassionately . The same with racism. I didn't encounter any other "races" until I went to work in London in the '60' s and encountered West Indians and Asians in particular and I found them a bit exotic and interesting rather than something to be feared.

We do not even have a "sub species" There is an old saying in Scotland "We are a' Jock Tamson's bairns". Think about it.

Moravian replies on Jan 5, 2021:
The UK has an extradition treaty with the USA but the refusal to give up Julian Assange has a precedent in the attempt to extradite Gary McKinnon who hacked into Pentagon computers. Theresa May as home secretary refused to allow extradition also on humanitarian grounds. In the other direction the US have refused to release Anne Sacoolas who killed Harry Dunn, a young motorcyclist, when she drove on the wrong side of the road. She initially agreed to co operate with the police then flew back to the USA claiming diplomatic immunity.

A few years ago my dog disappeared on 5th Nov and I found her a few days later at a dog rescue centre on the edge of town. A local gamekeeper had found her wandering miles from home and took her to the rescue centre. She was obviously frightened by a firework. For the rest of her life any loud noise would scare her. Moravian replies on Dec 30, 2020:
Yes, the meanings of words do change over time and words can have two or more meanings. If I say something is sick I mean it is bad or unwell. If my young friends say something is sick they mean it is really good. Musicians such as Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendrix are called rock gods but we do not really think they are gods in the original sense but to use the word god in the context of a natural phenomenon is somewhat disingenuous in my opinion.

@Alienbeing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_Index You got me thinking about this democracy thing and the attached makes interesting reading. The UK is listed as a full democracy and the USA as a flawed democracy. The boundary commission in England is currently redrawing several parliamentary constituancies which will likely give the ruling Tory party extra seats so I would include the UK in the flawed democracy list. Probably the only true democracy in the world is Switzerland.

@Alienbeing The USA not a democracy ? That's interesting as for years they have been trying to force their form of "democracy" on other countries in the world. The UK is a constitutional monarchy but is also a democracy. Surely any country that has elected representatives is democratic but any country with democratic in it's name is usually the least democratic eg The Democratic republic of the Congo

@Alienbeing I wonder if laws passed more recently conflict with the constitution. There must be laws which offer protection of the people . Thanks for the info. Guthrie is a Scottish name so I assumed one of his ancestors must have originated here, just as Johnny Cash's ancestor came from Cash farm in Fife. I have traveled enough in the USA to appreciate the attitude of many landowners. I have seen more no trespassing signs in a day than i would see here in a lifetime.
