Since religion is given a tax-free status, why not give science a tax-free status?

@Storm1752 I thought it was obvious. The "soul" must have thoughts and memories of the original person or the whole thing is a bit pointless. You guys are mere amateurs in the corruption stakes compared to Nigeria

@Petter Your story reminded me of an incident many years ago. After a mates stag party I stayed overnight in a country hotel. I was in the annex and it was in the days before en suite bathrooms. In the middle of the night i got up to go to the bathroom and as it was a warm night I was sleeping au natural. I found the bathroom ok but got lost and couldn't find my room. I opened one door to hear this deep male voice say "hello". That one was hurriedly closed. I don't know how long I wandered the corridors of that hotel but with great relief I eventually found my room. Fortunately unlike you I had left the door unlocked, Have you ever had any published ?

I thought I had stumbled on to feminists R us. It must have been an embarrassing experience for you. Regarding the girls in the high school it was actually my partner,an American woman. who commented to me that she thought leggings/tights without a dress or skirt was inappropriate dress. Regarding school uniforms in addition to ensuring that the dress is appropriate for the school environment it creates a level playing field where rich kids cannot show of expensive designer gear and make the poor kids feel bad; I'm sure that most girls can show their individuality in other ways; But that is just my opinion.

@Gwendolyn2018 You have my sympathy but bras are functional and ties are purely decorative. The UK business establishment tends to be a bit staid and conservative so it may be some time for it to change although I watched a BBC quiz show this evening where both of the presenters were wearing open necked shirts. Go back to the early days of steam radio and the newsreaders were required to wear dinner jackets. I'm sure it is much more relaxed in Australia. A few years ago during a heatwave I visited an office in town to find everyone wearing shorts. Secretaries, juniors, managers, everyone. One of the managers was a guy from Australia so I assume that he talked the office in to this sensible dress code.

@Gwendolyn2018 It appears to have changed markedly in silicon valley with very casual dress now the norm but in most business environments more formal attire is still the norm, certainly in the UK. @VeronikaAnnJ So to say that I am in favour of school uniforms and that pubescent schoolgirls shouldn't dress in a way that distracts teenage boys is stupid ? I'm sure a lot of parents would agree with me but try to get a willful young girl to dress differently from her peers ?. No chance. I have a friend who's daughters attend a private school where the dress code is a skirt/kilt below the knee and they all conform or are sent home. No problems. I spent much of my working life in office environments and never saw behaviour such as you describe and I agree that the situation was handled badly by your superior. If that sort of behaviour is the norm now in the USA it is a bit sad but if it is then surely women are aware of it and do not dress in a way to encourage it

Moravian replies on Aug 2, 2020:
@Robecology I tried to find out the name of the pub and all I could find was a story about a nun going in to said pub so maybe it is just an urban myth; I do remember going in to a pub in Manchester years ago which had dozens of pairs of knickers stapled to the ceiling. I don't know how it started but every young lady who went in to the pub was encouraged to add to the collection. Sadly the pub has long since gone in a redevelopment of the area.
