If he was a naughty boy then let him get what is coming to him. I remember this great story about Andrew. He was playing a round of golf with David Duvall at St Andrews when he was president of the Royal and Ancient. Duvall was taken aside after the game and castigated for not following protocol and calling Andrew "sir" His reply was "but I did say several times ""that was a princely shot Andrew"" Love it.

@Flowerwall In a nutshell, The UK has been a member of the EU for almost as long as I can remember to the benefit of the UK and the rest of Europe. We are so intertwined in everything from free trade, free movement of citizens, laws on everything from health and safety to employee protection that it will be an absolute nightmare to extricate ourselves. We have a common agriculture policy and a common fisheries agreement and many other common agreements. PM Cameron made a disasterous error of judgement as he now admits to call the referendum, which was done to quieten a few right wing Eurosceptics in his party. He never expected the leave result and he cut and ran immediately after the result' Obviously it does cost money but apart from the running of what is probably an overbeaurocratic organisation the rest goes to improving the lot in poorer European countries. Eg Ireland was a very poor country and is now one of the wealthiest countries in Europe. Since the result the value of the pound has been in freefall and the economy is suffering through uncertainty of the future' As a trading block the EU is one of the largest in the world and the Uk will now have to organise individual trade agreements wih all the current trading countries. A rather tongue in cheek analogy is -- I am going to leave netflix and arrange individual agreements with all the film distriburtors. Fucking madness

Moravian replies on Sep 17, 2019:
@Rustee I am sure you are and I would not suggest otherwise. The point I was making is that uniquely in the western world the USA has a gun culture that is accepted by ordinary folk and this results in thousands of deaths each year by accident, suicide and homicide. An example ;- I visted friends of a friend in Idaho last year and the householder told me that when his children were growing up he had loaded guns in the house because some time previusly a psycopath had come to the town and kidnapped and killed two women so he was taking no chances. The gun culture causes paranoia. My late brother in law who lived in London had sporting rifles in an approved locked gun cabinet. He was on holiday once and housebreakers forced open his gun cabinet and stole some money and valuables he kept there but left the guns. Burglers know that people keep valuables in a gun cabinet so no guns are really secure.

Moravian replies on Sep 11, 2019:
@Dreamrider Not sure what point you are trying to make but for a start the old testament/ Torah is not nonsense. It is very entertaining mythology. The Jews were originally polytheists but gradually adopted monothesism possibly picked up from Mithraism when in exile in Babylonia. They were a very warlike aquisitive tribe and developed Yaweh as a justification for their behaviour. In the Jesus timeline Judea was a part of the Roman empire and the Jews longed for a saviour to lead them to their former glories. The area was awash with holy men and religious sects such as the Essenes and Therapeuts and it is interesting that the name chosen for this savious is Joshua/Jesus, the mythical leader of the Jewish people after Moses died. Christianity is just a cult/sect that got lucky and the original story has been embellished so much over the years that it is pretty meaningless as a historical story.
Although I love John Lennon's "Imagine," I also have some favorite religious pop songs.

@Bierbasstard True, the lungs of the world comment is ridiculous but maybe it needs an over the top comment like this to catch the public interest. Also the Amazon "expert" cannot be right in saying that the Amazon consumes all the oxygen it creates. Probably much worse than the fires which are mainly on cleared scrub land are the illegal loggers and miners who conflict with the people living in the forest.

Moravian replies on Aug 26, 2019:
@SLBushway The replacement ratio is 2.1/1 and most western countries are well below this. South Korea is actually below 1/1.Developed countries depend on immigrants but cultural differences cause conflicts as can be seen with Brexit and the fiasco at the US/ Mexican border. The world population has increased dramatically in the past decades. It is currently over 7billion and forecast to increase to just under 10billion and then drop dramatically . Where do you think those people are going to go ?. They will be killed in pandemics or wars fought over scarce resources. Much better to keep the population stable than have this happen. Of course some species breed indiscriminately, the populations increase dramatically and then collapse. Do you want to be a lemming ?

Moravian replies on Aug 24, 2019:
@EdEarl I think we are getting bogged down in semantics here. All I am saying that although people appear to exhibit a herd mentality it is much more complex than that. I do not believe that many people blindly follow one another but give it more thought than that and it is too easy just to label them sheep. Regarding the other collective nouns. they are used to describe a collection of animals but do not say anything about the behaviour of those animals. eg a gaggle of geese or a murder of crows. Herd animals blindly follow one another, tribal animals show empathy to others in the tribe and will fight with other tribes. Pack animals such as wolves will also help one another. but herd animals do not normally show those attributes.
So my neighbors are accusing me of cutting their barbed wire fence.

We are not herd animals, we are tribal. There is a big difference
Moravian replies on Aug 23, 2019:
@EdEarl https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribalism. this probably describes tribal behaviour quite well and it is nothing like herd mentality. For example calling people who voted for Trump sheep or sheeple is lazy as they probably had independent selfish reasons for doing so. Some may have been swayed by public opinion or influenced by Trump's rhetoric if you could call it that but they are the opposite of sheep as they acted independently and did not follow one another as sheep tend to do.
People are herd animals.
Moravian comments on Aug 23, 2019:
We are not herd animals, we are tribal. There is a big difference
Moravian replies on Aug 23, 2019:
@EdEarl A totally different thing. Those are collective nouns for different animals. Humans along with the other great apes are tribal .Cows, sheep wildebeest etc are herd animals and behave in a totally different way from tribal species. Just because humans may appear to act like sheep or cows on occasions does not make them herd animals.
