@brentan Ireland has benefited greatly from the EU, in a material sense anyway, as has Scotland. I agree that the EU should be reformed, but a monster ? Don't think so. The rise of "populism" and the longing for this mystical thing called "sovereignty" may destroy it which would be a great shame.

Moravian replies on May 22, 2019:
there are several explanations for deja vu and my favourite is that part of the brain had a momentary shutdown, a bit like a power cut, for a fraction of a second and it leaves a memory when the synapses are reconnected. As for the rest Reincarnation ? as a sceptic I totally dismiss and karma can have several meanings.

Moravian replies on May 22, 2019:
@Captain_Feelgood I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. Firstly you show an obviously contrived video by a fascist/racist who is just barely keeping on the right side of the law. Then you show a video of a few nutters who have been condemned by the majority of their people. Of course there are problems of integration in English cities with a large immigrant population but they are not helped by people like Robinson or whatever he is calling himself theses days stirring things up with his racist agenda. Maybe it's you who should show a bit of love and tolerance instead of spouting off about things you obviously know little about.

@Captain_Feelgood Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, known as Tommy Robinson, is a British far-right activist who has served as a political advisor to the Leader of the UK Independence Party, Gerard Batten, since November 2018. Robinson is a co-founder, former spokesman and former leader of the English Defence League organisation. He was a member of the British National Party from 2004 to 2005. For a short time in 2012, he was joint vice-chairman of the British Freedom Party. He has on previous occasions used the pseudonyms Andrew McMaster, Paul Harris, Wayne King, and Stephen Lennon. That in a nutshell is "Tommy Robinson". A nasty bit of work who can obviously fool gullible people like you

Interesting fact Animal rights were recognised before childrens rights.
Moravian comments on May 7, 2019:
Fact?. I doubt very much that it is a fact. Slapping a child has even been banned here but then this is a secular country not some pseudo theocracy.
Moravian replies on May 7, 2019:
@powder Actually the first law to protect animals was passed in Massachusetts in 1641, but I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. Both children and animals are protected by law from harm.

@MsDemeanour We don't have any second hand book shops around here but I did spend some time in a few in Edinburgh. there was one next door to a shop selling second hand vinyl albums. Between the two a great way to waste a few hours. As for reading in bed. Much better than any sleeping pill. Nothing too stimulating, maybe a serious science book, and when the book slips from your fingers switch of the light and into the land of nod.

It is sad that a large section of the population get excited over a woman having a baby. The BBC news will now be dominated by this for the next few days. A few weeks ago an old building in Paris burnt down and apparently nothing else happened in the world for a week. Probably be the same with this momentous event.

@KKGator I agree that many animal rightists can be a bit "in your face" but considering some of the appalling conditions that animals are kept in, both for factory farming and some zoos maybe they have a right to. @Bobby9 Sure it has many meanings as have many words in the English language but politically I would say liberals are progressive, believe in democracy and civil liberties, Freedom of the individual and law and order. They espouse capitalism but probably not globalism. secularism and gender equality and racial equality. Others may add or remove some things but I think the main things are there. I don't particularly like labels but if I had to I would call myself a liberal socialist.

We adopted a feral cat years ago. For 6 years she only came on the porch to eat. At eight years she let us pet her. At 10 she sat on our lap and at 12 she stood in the doorway of the house. She passed away at 16 , never did come in the house. But we loved her and she us.
Moravian replies on May 4, 2019:
Had a similar experience. People in their ignorance and stupidity sometimes dump unwanted litters of kittens near a farm thinking they will be looked after. It's stupid because the cats can carry disease that may be transmitted to farm animals. This happened at a farm where my ex kept her horse so she took one of the kittens home. It hated being in the house and eventually lived out side and appeared to be fed. It once disappeared for weeks and we thought it had been killed but it reappeared with the fur round it's neck worn away. Someone had obviously had it tied up and it had escaped and returned to us.

@LiterateHiker I'm not. I'm commenting on the different road layouts and rules of the road in the USA. One I could never get used to was the taking turns to cross at crossroads on minor roads. So much is left to trust. I was in Idaho with some friends from the East visiting a friend of theirs. We were returning home in the dark and at a crossroads.. the driver thinking it was one of those crossings was about to drive over and the local resident shouted "No don't go". . With her local knowledge she was aware that the other road was considered to be the main road and drivers on it had right of way. We were very close to being wiped out. A crazy system. Put in more roundabouts.
