There is a TV series shown in the UK fronted by Ben Fogle where he spends a week with people living "off the grid" Some families some couple and some single persons, both male and female. Fascinating to get an insight into the lives of those people but I think they are the exception and most would struggle without the modern amenities we take for granted.

I have had several discussions with theists about "evil". I submit that it cannot exist as a separate entity. There can be evil acts or even evil people and it can make me angry and have sympathy for those affected by an evil act. Suffering can be caused by evil acts such as the Buddhists treatment of the Rohingya people in Myanmar or to an individual because of illness and just bad luck. I just watched a US envoy in London being quizzed about a trade agreement with the UK after Brexit. He was insistent that the NHS would be included in any deal. It is easy to blame the NRA but it seems to be a cultural problem. Instead of going and getting drunk and getting in a fight anyone with a grievance gets a gun and shoots up his school,church,workplace. Note, the shooters are invariably male. There is an epidemic of knife crime in London at the moment. There is a stabbing virtually every day. There was a similar situation in Glasgow a few years ago but the police and authorities got to grips with it and now stabbings are very rare. The Metropolitan police in London have approached their Glasgow counterparts for help in combatting the problem. The love of guns seems to be so ingrained in the American Psyche that it will be difficult to eradicate but with the will I'm sure it can be done although it will probably take a generation or more.

Lots of words have different meanings. I was talking with my partners daughter in law and she said her father was a keen skier. I said I was also a keen skier but not very competent. This completely confused her and eventually we talked about something else. I figured out later that to her keen meant good or competent not enthusiastic as I understand the word to mean. The Finns eventually capitulated but not before inflicting massive losses on the Soviet forces. The Soviets made their soldiers walk through Finnish minefields to detonate the mines.
