With the absolute mayhem occurring at the moment how anyone can say that leaving is a good thing is unbelievable. It is now quite possible that we will leave with no deal which will set the country back 10 years or more. "Less influence than an American City in the USA" What a load of rubbish.

On any one year this may be true depending on the type of forest, but at the end of the year the grass dies and is recycled whereas in the woodland, although the leaves are recycled the tree lays down carbon in the timber. This is from measurements taken in Australia ;- "Based on data from typical perennial grasslands and mature forests in Australia, forests are typically more than 10 times as effective as grasslands at storing carbon on a hectare per hectare basis"

@PBuck0145, @Sofabeast Well, I am one of the elderly and I voted remain. I realise that the EU is far from perfect but it is better than the alternative. I really do not know what motivates the likes of Farage but he feeds in to the fears and prejudices of not particularly well informed people.
Being one of the wealthier countries in Europe of course there is a net cost to the UK but there are lots of benefits as well.
I travelled round Ireland in 1968 and the difference from the UK was very marked. It was almost a third world country. Now it is one of the wealthier countries in Europe and that is because of EU membership. Surely it is worth the loss of some minor decision making

@Stevil I was thinking more of dedicated cycle tracks as they have in the Netherlands rather than just cycling on the edge of the road. I haven't cycled in Europe for some time but I felt safer there than in the UK. I was a motorcyclist as well as a cyclist for many years and I gave that up as it appeared that every car driver was out to get me.
You have my sympathy trying to cycle in the USA. I did a 6000 mile motorbike road trip but kept mainly to minor roads so it was ok. The standard of driving on main roads is appalling with much worse lane discipline and tail gating than here.
I take your point about e bikes but I have a friend who is a very keen road cyclist, I keep to offroad these days, and his wife accompanies him on her ebike.. At least she gets some exercise and fresh air,

A few weeks ago they put on a production of "The Steamie" which you may have heard of.
Not much skiing here yet. We have had virtually no snow yet this winter ( bloody climate change :-))

@Kattywampus69 It was a great evening.A traditional Burns supper meal in the midst of a murder mystery play and we had to work out who the murderer was with a prize for the table that was successful. the Showboaters , the local Am Dram group who presented it are very good. A few weeks ago they put on a production of "The Steamie" which you may have heard of.
Not much skiing here yet. We have had virtually no snow yet this winter ( bloody climate change :-))

there are several groups with similar names. This was a closed group but there is an open group on facebook with the same name.

Alcohol is like any other drug/brain altering substance; different by degrees and parts of the brain affected.
I follow H.L. Mencken's advice. If you have anything important to do, like work, driving, getting married etc. Let it wait until after. Otherwise, it IS always 5:00 somewhere, right?...

Not quite. Drugs like hash,cocaine,heroin are taken purely for their effect. Drinks like craft ales, quality wine and quality spirits are drunk because they taste good.
