Erm side note here. Being informed about and involved in politics is not something reserved for those with degrees in political science, it is a duty of every citizen. Thats the only way democracy really works and the whole "I don't get into politics" bit drives me mad. That's dereliction of duty as a US citizen. Politics affects literally everything about our lives and if we don't pay attention and stay involved the whole system falls apart( kind of like we've seen happen in the last couple decades)

@Captain_Feelgood and they make a point about breaking down what ILLEGAL immigrants pay in taxes. Perhaps you should read beyond the 1st paragraph? Though I suspect thats about your tolerance level for reading.

I crunched numbers for my income as a single, working mother versus a single mother on welfare. My child and I had less disposable income and access to fewer activities you had to pay for because I qualified for no subsidies. I'm glad I was good at finding and exploiting every open event offered in ...

@pixiedust ah I see. I'm American so things are a bit different here. Personally I've gotten both the "heartless mother who abandons her child for her career" and the " too focused on being a parent to support herself" bs(neither of which were true btw) people are just judgemental shits IMO and will seize any excuse to denigrate someone else. Single moms are a favorite target in my experience.

I could give a dozen such examples sadly. I myself was threatened for trying to take a day off with strep throat - very contagious. Managers have even less wiggle room for such things. In that instance I was told to buy hand sanitizer and just deal with it. Doctors notes are often required as well; ...

@AmiSue amusingly??? I'm seeing clearly that they are not that replaceable in my current job. I'm mean enough to enjoy the fact that treating workers like they're unimportant is causing my current employer quite a few headaches. Kind of hoping they'll catch on that their policies are damaging to their business but I'm not holding my breath on that.

I've worked in hospitals where one would reasonably expect a substantial level of consideration for mutual exposure between patients and staff. Sadly, in the two different hospitals (in different states), and the various medical offices, such consideration was nearly non-existent. It's pretty ...

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by welfare but I will tell you that I have been a single working mother for almost 4 years now and most "welfare" benefits aren't available to me. I strongly suspect that the social safety net us largely a thing of the past. I became unemployed about 6 months ago, have been underemployed since then and can't qualify for anything beyond food stamps because I "make too much" at 1200. a month income despite the fact that my rent alone is 1000 per month(the cheapest place I found when I moved here 3 years ago).

Yes. I include management in "workers groups" though many don't. Middle management are often prone to be vulnerable to the same abuses as everyone else AND their being salaried makes them vulnerable to wage abuses. The whole system is just very broken for everyone except the stockholders.

OpposingOpposum comments on Jul 30, 2018:
We do not. We may want one, we may be happier when we have someone to share things with but making one single person responsible for your happiness and well being is too much to ask IMO. Something thats not often acknowledged is how much women DO for the men in their lives. I'd like to have ...

There is a difference between wanting and needing. Women have long been told that we NEED a man to take care of us, to be complete, to be real women. Facebook friends as a gauge for introverted or extroverted?
Condor5 comments on Jul 28, 2018:
I'm not comfortable with those labels. I believe an individual can move between those concepts from time to time. I often used too think of myself as an introvert, but when my job compelled me to get up in front of dozens, or even hundreds, of people at times, it wasn't difficult for me. Even when ...
