It's more a list of personality traits and behaviours I won't put up with. Every single man I'm interested in has exhibited one or more of them upon closer acquaintance. Therefore I'm becoming convinced that its perhaps universal and finding anyone who doesn't set my red light blinking just isn't going to happen. Is it something I learned in childhood? @ArdentAtheist I do and it sounds terrible to say but I have good reason. I've lived most of my life as an economically challenged person. It's a life full of simple things being difficult. The whole "positive attitude" thing frankly comes off as victim blaming. Sure, you can't pay rent despite working 50 hour weeks your cars broken down but the REAL problem is that you're attitude is bringing you down. Right. It's a quasi-religious viewpoint that I find is often used to shut people down when they're pointing out very real issues and inequalities in society. It's easy to discount people as "negative"& stop listening because your experience has not been the same as someone else's. I find that people already discount others experiences and this ideology makes that easier for people to do. It's the same idea as "God is testing you and you just have to have faith".

@JimG I am aware. My mother had forced sterilization suggested by her doctors as a child because of her disabilities. Not because pregnancy would threaten her health but because her offspring were judged likely to be "defective". My grandmother was a very devout christian and refused on religious grounds.

The thing about this idea is that it is laudable and reasonable for an individual to make that decision FOR THEMSELVES. Requiring others to comply or arguing that they are bad people for not making that decision is tantamount to forcing a woman to have an abortion because others think she would make a bad mother. This is not the kind of decision that should be made by public consensus.
