Just ask people what they do regularly to prevent rape. The women will provide a huge list and the men will provide the sound of crickets, or maybe some smartass remark like "stay out of prison". I read an article about using this tactic at sensitivity training, and it is quite powerful.

I think the percieved risk of normal behaviours is wildly skewed, yes. The risks of walking down the street, going to bars, venues or theaters, wearing certain types of clothing,make-up etc is wildly exaggerated. When you look at the statistics(and my personal experience) being at home with your family is far more dangerous. Especially if your family is the controlling misogynistic kind.

I have and my take away from it was that it created a sense of intimacy and closeness that DID not translate well when we met in person. In a commited relationship where you already know the person, I think it's fine but I'll never start that up with someone I haven't physically met again.

@Kojaksmom it seems our conversations led him to believe I was "liberal with my favors" shall we say, which turned into a conviction that I was being unfaithful. He also decided that since I enjoy sex it meant I was incapable of real emotional connections. Just... Weird ideas men have about sex I guess.

@KenG because on TOP of those things we're also told not to do very common and neccesary things like:dress a certain way, walk down the street, talk to strangers, be a prude, be a slut, be a bitch, be fat, be skinny, be black the list goes on and on and on of things women MUST not do if they don't want to be victims. And none of it works anyway. Nuns and old women and small children,plain girls and fat girls, girls wearing skirts or pants make up or no make up all end up being raped just the same. All of these things we're told not to do and options we're forbidden from taking for safeties sake DON'T ACTUALLY OFFER any guarantee of security. The only things that prevent rape are a lack of rapists and intended victims that can successfully fight back.
